XC02 43008 and 43007 on the final Arriva Crosscountry HST working Monday 18th September 2023
After 15years and 4 months the final day of Arriva Crosscountry High Speed Train, Intercity 125, HST call them what you will happened on Monday 18th September 2023… I went to Plymouth for one final ride on a XC and with my old favourite and highest mileage power car 43007, now wearing classic Blue and Yellow Intercity 125 livery on the XC02 set, Intercity swallow liveried 43008 was on the leading end. My attachment to 43008 was less as it only joined the XC fleet around 4 years ago.

TSW2 - My First Scenario Design (ECW with TVL trains)

My first attempt at a scenario using the scenario designer on TSW2 (Train Sim World 2) by Dovetail Games. Used the East Coastway (ECW) route however with TVL (Tees Valley Line) trains with the 'off the rails' function. Creating an elaborate and complicated timetable to explore and enjoy. Safety systems all on and manual controls used as best as I can. Enjoy.

Thinking back, why were Cl50s deployed on this route ?
They replaced the less powerful Class 33 so to speed up timings between Waterloo/Salisbury and Exeter. Once enough 50s had been cascaded off the Western Region workings the timetable was then changed to better suit the faster running times. They were supposed to be replaced by 159s direct but they were delayed and the 50s reliability and decline meant they had to utilise 47s until the 159s were introduced.

Louis, you are in correct. 43074 was a VP185 when this video was recorded. You can tell that by listening to it. It is now an MTU renumbered as 43274. Please check your facts before dropping comments.

I used to drive the 43's out of Kings X up the ECML... With 4500 hp under the bonnet ( 2250 hp ) one up front and one up the botty there was plenty of power on tap... Pulling out of the station on notch five with the Paxman Valenta turbo's screaming their little heads off and clouds of exhaust smoke ( sorry Greta Thunberg ) was something to behold with more excitement to enjoy... 125 mph here we come although they would top 148 mph... Now there is food for thought but as I did not fancy tea and biscuits with the Boss well need I say more..

A mic wind filter would be appreciated
On a phone isn’t….. not really going to be carrying a wind filter round whilst on my travels…. 🤦♂️
You shouldn't leave the train in gear for more than a couple of seconds while stationery : standing with the train in gear for any more than a few seconds will RAPIDLY overheat the fluid coupling, the fusible plug will melt and spray highly flammable, highly toxic Shell SFR oil over the hot engine and exhaustpipes. Also -- NEVER EVER EVER leave the brake in lap while running unless you are actually braking. If you run with the brake in lap you are not exhausting the brake pipe and after sometime it is entirely possible for the vacuum to drop slowly and if the connection to the topside of the vacuum cylinder is leaking you can loose topside vacuum and then you would have NO BRAKES at all. Gear change: 1st : 0 - 15 2nd : 15 - 27 3rd : 27 - 41 4th : 41 - 70
This makes me wish I took video of Christmas diversions in 2005 from Exeter to Reading via Yeovil Penmill. Lots of jointed track, Valenta's in in all the HSTs and electric staves still in use
