Hang Gliding BVI 1984

I was agent for Wills Wing in the Virgin Islands and asked them to build a 200 Duck. This thing was a beast and very difficult to handle, as you may see. Once when I flew into some rain it became dangerously divergent, so the airflow was very laminar!
My friend Dongo (thnx for this film) who was much lighter than me flew it and it was..erm.. character building.

This is a professionally made video I commissioned when I lived for 20 years in the BVI and shows us hang gliding on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands in 1987. We were the first to fly there, with a core group of around 6 of us pioneering take off and soaring sites over a period of 10 years. I've seen the Prout Quasar before and it is absolutely my favorite cruising catamaran, they just don't make them like this anymore.
Must be nice always to have a Clanger for company.
haha, I see your point. Clanger noise is vertical speed indicator, or in gliding parlance, an audible variometer. Descending air = continous tone,a deeper note for heavier sink. Intermittent tone = rising air, with higher pitch meaning stronger lift = happy pilot.

@@beebee766 Hi Bill the reason I asked is that I own vh-gff a numbus 3T ,also I used to fly hang gliders for many years and my last hg was a magic 4 ,I keep my glider at Boonah and own a 42 foot yacht that we sailed around the world in and have a sail making business . So it would seem we have a bit in common!

You're incorrect pronunciations are hilarious ... apart from Boonah and Maroon Dam you got every other place name wrong The Shed is an organic produce place and when you say, "what's that over there"? you are looking at the airfield - yes Boonah has an airport
all depends on the correct emfarsis. Am aware of Boonah's airport, having flown from it. Glad you found it hilarious, do mind you don't wet your panties tho....

The dumbest layout in existence. Nobody needs this many lounges with tables. Manufacturer had to offset weight I am guessing so they just put seating everywhere. It looks like its for 6+ people.

Thanks for the tour. I stumbled across your video by accident as I was reading about the PBM Mariner Flying Boat manufactured during WW2. I stayed for the whole video. Very illuminating.
Lets get the story straight, I am pretty sure you are talking about the people who took the Prout name after Prouts UK closed up shop in late 90s. Someone took the name and started manufacturing in China I think, but this Prout has absolutely nothing to do with the original English Prouts. I have known Prouts UK since the late 80s and their boats, while a little slow were the 1st decent cruising cats. They have been sailing the globe since the 60s. email me if you want to know more.

@TETOYVIENDO they ripped off my father. he bought a p-72 which was supposed to be ready 2 years ago. he still doesn't have the boat, and they kept all his money. he is in the process of suing them.

she is already finished, sold to new owner and sailed to Scotland. Sea trials were impressive - she sailed well up to expectations.
I rate all the shuttleworth designs - the 38 being a real star - I look forward to seeing her finnished ...........
ermmm... try 14 thousand, not hundred. Look at the GPS altitude on the left, if you dont believe. That flight was up to 17,500. Have previously been to 24,500 in this glider, but been there, done that, renewed the gelcoat....
