The 2023 KXCR racing season kicked off at "The Slab" in Fountain Run, KY. This year the ADV class kicked off with a bigger line this season, including a new member, also a first-time racer. The race organization put together a great track for beginners and big bikes this season with a great mix of hill climbs and sweeping single track. Unlike the past year, the track conditions were perfect; he...

For 2022, Kentucky Cross-Country Racing (KXCR) launched an "Adventure Class" for 600cc and up motorcycles to come harescramble the Bluegrass state. Considering it's been a dream of mine to race my Triumph Scrambler for a long time, this was my first opportunity after making multiple modifications over the winter. Round 1 in Clay City came after a solid week of rain. The weather was good for Sun...
What is a Dual-Sport Motorcycle? Part II
zhlédnutí 208Před 2 lety
In part 1 of this series, I outlined some ground rules to better define the dual-sport motorcycle segment. In part 2, I take a deeper dive into the different models available at dealerships today, discuss some of the sub-categories, take a look at the individual stats of the motorcycles, and ultimately "rate" the different dual-sport models based on performance and price. I also take a few minu...
Bike Washing with Super Clean
zhlédnutí 580Před 2 lety
I've been washing my dirt bikes with Super Clean since march. Super Clean reached out to me last winter and asked if I'd be interested in testing their product. Way back when, I used to work for a body shop and clean up cars. Considering I bring home filthy bikes on the regular, I agreed to give their degreaser a shot. Super Clean gave me a spray bottle to test, made no demands, and asked only ...
What's a Dual Sport Motorcycle?
zhlédnutí 680Před 2 lety
After a few conversations with different people, I realized the word "Dual-Sport" has a very different meaning to different people. To some people, it's a dirt bike with a license plate. To others, it's a lightweight adventure bike or a street bike that looks like a dirt bike. I decided to take a deeper dive and define what I think the dual-sport segment should be and discuss the wide range of ...

Saying Goodbye to the CRF250L
zhlédnutí 299Před 2 lety
A while bike I published a video "What replaces the CRF250L". I had a discussion about how hard it is to find a feasible replacement for a bike that does so much and asks so little in return. After 10,000 mikes and 3 years of ownership, I decided it was time to move on. Of all the bikes I've owned and worked on, the CRF250L is the easiest bike to live with. Today we're hitting the local single ...

A few weeks back I got an invite to a small family farm hare scramble in southern Ohio. I had no idea what to expect, other than technical single track and a solid enduro-cross section. I ride a Kawi KLX230SM 'supermoto' only 233cc, 2 valve, screw and tappet, 296lbs wet. Tops out at 75mph, is as fast as a standard US midsize sedan to 60mph ~8sec. It is fun as hell around town & works well lon 65mph US highways. 75mph is iffy if theres much crazy traffic. That's where a Honda 300 would work better. The CB300R would be great at 315lbs wet and tops out over 100mph. The CRF300L doesn't come in supermoto form. The DRZ400SM and KLX300SM are other 'supermoto' options
Great video
They’re great bikes. I’d have another.
My 2018 has a taco and at 100kmh on a freeway I'm at ~5500 rpm, it redlines at 10
I’m planning on riding this on Monday. Curious where I can park and unload my bike
Check out their website and facebook page. The “Park & Ride” in slade is the best place to leave a trailer.
Where are all the Super Duke 1190s and BMW 12-1300 GSs? and note that crashing is part of riding off road and don't let industry propaganda and silly sales people talk you into a bike you can't pick up on your own!!
We had a few orange big bikes show up to cross country race’s but never a beemer. Hard enduro limited the field to 2.
Much respect, thats not easy on large heavy bike's.
Ktm makes great dirt bikes that are made for this.
That’s too easy 😂😂
Why?
Mostly because Racing big bikes is an epic challenge.
Because fun

I own a 250l here in the UK . First dual sport I’ve owned , most fun bike I’ve had not brilliant at anything but ok at everything. Like you said it will get you too your destination ,you can have fun when you arrive and it will get you home . What more do you want . 😁👍🇬🇧🏍🇺🇸

My blood runs red I love Honda I started riding at 4 years old got the pic riding by myself brand new 200s 3 wheeler and some how I can remember riding it all them years ago 40 years ago I just got a crf250L and I like it I've rode it only about 20 miles and I feel just like what u said thanks for the video!!
It’s a great bike. Unkillable and can do about anything. Folks lament about power, but that’s not what it’s for.
Solidifies my desire to buy a 250L. The fastest road around here is 50 mph, and I'm too old to race. I just want to explore the woods.
It’s the bike that gives so much and asks almost nothing in return. As long as you know what you’re getting into, it’s hard to beat.
Kentucky is awesome!
Pretty cool! Zack and Ari from Revzilla would be impressed. They've done some gnarly terrain on scramblers, too.
Great review, @Everide would be proud!

Cool bike!
Was wondering what bend your bars are
CR High bars
Hats off to Jeff‼️🏆🥇 it was a outstanding tour 💯🏁🏆
Killer video man and honest feedback. I’m wanting this or the 300l for my first bike and this video has been helpful.
It’s a great bike. Former racers tend to shit on it because it’s not a true woods bike, but for anyone that intends to ride pavement and isn’t racing, it’s really hard to beat.
Woooooo!!!
Hell yeah 💪 I saw the looks on peoples faces when you all lined up at the start, but it would be great to hear what riders in other classes thought when you were ripping through the forest 😂
I love it 🤘
I have 2018 SS, and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, what handle bars are you using here, mine are bent from when I had laid mine over on the left side. Also, you had said that you upgraded the suspension...Did you go with the Fox kit, Ohlin's or a 3rd option. Finally, if I wanted to race my 2018 how do I get involved and what tips would you have on racing a big pig like our bikes. I love my SS, and I think its awesome that I found someone who participates in these types of races with our bike, new subscriber here!
Hey FighterPilot! My bike is a ‘13 865 scrambler. Front forks have the +30mm Free Spirit parts kit, 7.5W fork oil, and 875+10mm Ohlin S36 shocks. In this video it also has a 21/18” rear wheels relaced into stuck hubs. I’m putting a link below to everything I’ve done. I just had fork cartridges installed and ordered Nitron piggyback shocks. As soon as those are delivered and tested i will do another write up about suspension and wheels. motoadventurer.com/2022/03/27/triumph-scrambler-project-stage-4-upgrades/

THIS IS SO SICK!
I would love to ride my 2004 Zuma scooter thur the tunnel!!!
your riding a KTM race bike and you’re comparing it to a Honda L model thats not apples to apples that to apples to cantaloupes for crying out loud wtf
That’s my point, as a guy who wants to dual sport ride. The costs of using a race bike as an east coast Dual Sport may be too high. I’ve since purchased a WR250R, I just use my 350 for hare-scrambles, which is naturally what it was designed for.
I just got 2017 crf 250l my first dual sport bike and I love it. So much fun to ride these bike
It’s a hard bike to kill and it can do so much
If you keep stalling the bike then you should probably practice clutch control!!!! I own a 350xcf-w and a 500xc-w and they are very smooth and quiet engines. I’m puzzled about your reviews because you mentioned that your Honda 250L didn’t have any problems. I’ve owned Hondas 150R, 250x & 450x all three were retuned. Other then the 150r they are are heavy bikes and valves need to be replaced with stainless valves that hold adjustments. Your on a Big Boys bike now so learn how to ride a thumper. No pipe to smash, better fuel economy for long in the woods rides and smooth power!
There is always room for improvement, both in the rider, and the bike. There is also no metric for taste. I love my 350 xcfw suspension. The torque and power band is amazing. I still hate the engine character, it’s a fussy super model that constantly needs attention. That limits it range between maintenance intervals. It’s the best tool for many, but not for everyone.
Triumph violates noise regulations. Sounds too sexy, disqualified.

I know you’ve said it before, but going back and watching these really drives home that ‘it’s never the same road twice’ in the Red River Gorge!
Shockingly so.
Dude behind you was lighting you up...
Looking back, how do you like the AER48?
I think the AER48 had potential. I liked them on the moto track and fast trails but when roots, rocks, and choppy rugs show up, they didn’t damp the sharp stuff as well. I could have spent money to have them revalved and I think I would have liked them, but decided to sell the bike and get something else since I already had a KTM 350xcfw parked right next to it.
This is the most over-analyzed, pocket-protected, high-pants, engi-nerd look at dual sports ever… … and as an engineer who rides an XR250L, I loved every cell-clicking minute of it!
This was definitely a deep dive into the weeds on a scale few were prepared to tread. I appreciate you enjoying the trip Chris! I’m debating an ADV sequel… 🤣
