    Im on this journey on converting my wife from drinking sodas and southern sweet tea, so far the only one she hasn't turned sour on is some Gongmei but she says its only just drinkable. Still amuses me the face she made when she tried a cooked puerh.

    I appreciate you making this more accessible for starting people. This seems like a tea that would be great after a few years of sleeping in the tea closet. At this price it would almost be worth getting two, one to drink now one to see what it tastes like in just a few years.

    When you spoke about the porosity of yixing, I think you might be leaving out zhuni which can be closer to porcelain than many other types of yixing because of the firing temperature and high kiln shrinkage rate.

    Not to come off as a smart alec, but I don't understand why you wouldn't store them in the box it came in and leave the packing material in the box with the teapots? It seems safer to store them as they arrived in a tote stacked on top of one another. Am I missing something here? However, I totally understand that you want to unpack and inspect each one to ensure they are in tact.

    • @TaoTeaware
      @TaoTeaware Před 6 dny

      Yeah so you’re right with wanting to inspect them! The other part of that though is storage space. If you talk to most potters (unless they have a ton of storage space) also stack pots in totes, boxes, etc. Also, I’ve tried a few times to do the weight calculations and some of the boxes just weigh too much and as pretty as some of them are they would just make the shipping incredibly expensive. 🤷🏻‍♂️ just a few logistic things. It would definitely be easier but just not as feasible as you’d think. I hope that makes sense. Let me know. 🙏🏻

    I still brew occasionally with a larger pot when I’m making something that can handle high temperatures or if being brewed an extra long time won’t affect it, say a white tea that doesn’t get too astringent or what have you, but since I got into gong fu and discovered gaiwans, I have to say, there is something about the level of precision it affords me that I like. I can choose the exact moment I’m done brewing, but I can also agitate the leaves a bit too which I have a tradition of doing every time I refill the gaiwan. I would say the fit in my gaiwan is almost perfect though. And I agree that a lot look very similar, so I just bought my second set that looks like an orange 🍊 lol it’s incredibly unique and I got it off Etsy. So you can still get some unique things if you look but I get what you’re saying

    "wheather it is a chouzhou or yixing doesn't matter" eh... disagree. if all you want is a pot to dip your toes in best bet is glass or porcelain. otherwise the type of clay or origin will change the taste. my first pot was yixing purple. a good pot for fermented tea but with other teas it made them bland. reciently i found a nixing pot and works well for black, green olong, even chinese green teas. preserves the flavor, thickens the tea and adds a bit of the taste of the clay giving it a refreshing zing to it.
