excited to see you make your way through this series. it has uts ups and downs, but the complete experience is very worth it.
Been busy but love the reviews your amazing man
@@magnenoalex2 thank you Alex :)
The worst NJO book, Its only up from here. Jacen gets some great development from here. Jaina continues to be based.
I agree, this one was not great. Especially disappointed since it’s the one of the hardcovers for some reason. I think Balance Point and Dark Journey are my least favorites so far
@@LegendsLiterature I was so down for the initial idea of Dark Journey, Jaina dealing with her grief over the loss of both her brothers. It just wasn't executed. and Kyp eyeing Jaina up was just weird.
@@MrMuxix yeah, I felt the same way. I talk more about it in my review
For me that's the force heretic trilogy
Jason’s mother didn’t deserve it honestly
@@Solfonix 🙏🙏
I think the order you read these in affects your expectations and then how you enjoy it or not I read them out of order so I was not worried about the main huge parts of the war but just enjoyed the personal aspects of the story
@@Scottadamsfan3481 I just don’t think this book offered as much as the first book, including character-wise
Question Do you have a list of the legends books you have to read and do you take suggestions on stuff you might of missed
@@joshuarichmond2688 I’m reading basically everything. And everything minor I’ve missed I’m going back afterwards
ayyyyyy
the NJO, the Jude Watson books and Darth Plagueis are my personal favorites, love seeing these reviews ngl. They all have a different kinda appeal too.
@@Upsedriss Can’t wait for Darth Plagueis. It’s so far off though. I’m only up to 2002, and that’s 2012 lol
@@LegendsLiterature honestly, it's a good thing. The book contains small referemces and connections to many other novels and comics, adknowledging other stories that did happen or even are happening during the time period it is set in. Reading it after reading other works is very fun in that way. there's only one chapter in it i do not think is as good, but that's just cuz it kinda awkwardly introduces a character based on the new TCW tv show retcon of their backstory, but depending on your feelings there it might not even bother you lol. The book really does feel like *the* set-up for the prequels, and catching the connections to other stories youve already read should be a lot of fun. As for Vergere, keeping this nice and vague, she's an interesting one indeed, though there is some controversy surrounding information about her that was released after the NJO series itself, recontextualizing some things in a way not everyone was happy with compared to the impression you get in just NJO. some post NJO series generally seem to kinda wanna recontextualize some things and not all NJO fans were happy with the diredtion some characters went in. im very curious to see your thoughts once you get to the point stuff like that is brought up, and that you continue going in as open minded as always, which is another reason im keeping this vague. want to inform, not potentially influence one way or another. hope that was non spoilery enough haha.
Speaking of Chewies Funeral when do you plan to review the Chewbacca comic miniseries that takes place after the funeral
@@joshuarichmond2688 that’s on my list right after the Unifying Force. I wanted to have a nice bittersweet reflection right after the end of NJO, so that’ll be it
@@LegendsLiterature Cool another question after you finish review all the Star War Tales comic are you planning to but all the segments into a separate video for ease of finding the specific issue review
@@joshuarichmond2688 that’s a good idea, I might do that
So from you journey what book do you think need to be read to get the most from New Jedi Order
@@joshuarichmond2688 My honest answer would be that if you’re not committed to reading the whole series, don’t bother. Each book adds to the overarching story. Now, if you HAD to read just one, I’d say Vector Prime. It serves as a great introduction to the Yuuzhan Vong, has some fun character stuff, and can serve as a standalone adventure with only a few loose ends.
@@LegendsLiterature sorry I meant books and comic that were published before NJW that tie in to the series
I read all of Bantam and almost every book adds to the NJO I would try to read it all it took me two years but it was worth it
@@joshuarichmond2688 Ah sorry, I misunderstood that. Well, having read them all, NJO does a good job of referencing pretty much all of them, so that’s my ideal answer. But I’d say the essentials are 1) The Thrawn Trilogy, 2) the X-Wing series, 3) The Jedi Academy Trilogy, and 4) The Hand of Thrawn Duology. I’d strongly recommend Young and Junior Jedi Knights, the Corellian trilogy, Truce at Bakura, Courtship of Princess Leia, and the Black Fleet Crisis. For comics, I’d say Dark Empire is the only big one.
You don’t have to read anything to enjoy the story , you can read it and then read old books and learn the connections that way or read old books first but not vital
oop nearly forgot this one. now im caught up.
woo, caught back up
eyyy
yooo njo. cant believe i didnt get notified for this despite having the bell on smh

Speaking of dark troopers how many of the Star Wars video games have played
@@joshuarichmond2688 I’ve played KOTOR and the Force Unleashed games. I will eventually play more of the games, I wanna play the Dark Forces series and Republic Commando eventually.
Onslaught is one of my favorite EU books and makes my Top 5 for the NJO. Building off of Vector Prime's template, I think Stackpole did a great job furthering the characters of Anakin and Jacen in particular, I like the many duos in here - Luke & Jacen, Mara & Anakin, Corran & Ganner, etc. - and I thought the whole beginning of the war narrative with everyone trying to figure out the YV and their biotech was fascinating. My one problem, the lack of Yuuzhan Vong POV, is thankfully immediately rectified by Ruin and the awesomeness of Shedao Shai.
@@dimenteon yeah, that was one of my issues as well, which contributed to the lack of dread I felt while reading this book that I mentioned. Vector Prime did a great job of giving us a disturbing look into the Yuuzhan Vong through those Vong-centric chapters, but this book lacked that. However, I agree, Ruin definitely brought that feeling back (spoiler: I freaking loved Ruin)
I wish this series got the Marvel comics (1977) treatment where they updated the events with better recontextualizations of the goofy aspects. For example the Lost City of the Jedi was in fact real, and was built as a library and monument to the defeat of Exar Kun, but that’s from a sourcebook and not an actual story. I love the idea of the Empire using a false heir to desperately maintain power, I like Ken, and Triclops made sense to me because his name isn’t even his real name. It’s an insult from imperials who knew of him as a mutant. Other source books claim his mother could have been Sly Moore and that his third eye is a mutation of alien genes and dark side corruption. These stories just needed a special edition to make them work for most people. I love this series even if it’s a goofy mess. Better than Disney’s alternative…
@@gabethebabe3337 yeah, I like the idea that these sillier stories are just in-universe retellings of real events. Maybe bedtime stories told to Jacen and Jaina.
Omg your here sorry me and Brennan didn't finish the fanfic in time
@@magnenoalex2 no problem. I’ll still review it whenever you guys finish it.
I know this is very late but I love this video. I just started legends just finished dark force rising loved it.
@@ovierdelacruz7158 welcome to the fam 👋
oh yeah love the njo it was my first legend book i ever read
I’m glad Kun wasn’t mentioned actually. Can you imagine how that would have gone/looked to the non force sensitive characters? Well, it would look like Kyp trying to avoid blame for his actions and not taking responsibility.
@@frankheninja1 I don’t think Kyp should’ve mentioned him, I just think the author should’ve. It felt the author was trying really hard to misinterpret the events of the Jedi Academy trilogy just to avoid defending a mass-murderer lol
@@LegendsLiterature who in the story would have known about Kun besides Kyp?
@@LegendsLiterature because the story was from an incredibly limited, close to Fen and Ghitsa 3rd person POV.
@@frankheninja1 I meant as an inner monologue of Kyp’s, not dialogue.
@@LegendsLiterature did Kyp get any POV sections in the story? I thought he didn’t.
The only bad part about finishing New Jedi Order is now I can't make fun of One Piece Fans for having too many episodes.
@@storba3860 I wouldn’t have complained if NJO was 30 books.
Wait until you get to Luceno’s Han Solo duo-logy those books are great imo
@@Scottadamsfan3481 I’ve already read them, I just finished Star by Star. I’m a bit ahead of my reviews haha. Spoilers: I liked that Duology, especially the first book
Oh yeah! With Droma, right!?
@@mloicano yes
Surprised you didn’t even mention the part where they were monitoring the outer edge of galaxy and how they snuck in etc
@@Scottadamsfan3481 I did talk about the Yomin Carr plotline, just not those specific parts.
@@LegendsLiterature oh ok
Im excited for you. Cant wait to get there myself!
@@animalmother8037 Really loving this series so far!
Man I can’t believe Vector Prime is already here feels like it should’ve took longer to get here but a massive milestone Congratulations keep up the good work
@@joshuarichmond2688 yeah, NJO felt so far away but now, I’m 9 books in 😅
Very great book readi it in two days
I just read the comic and I loved it. The slice of life aspect was SOOOO GOOOD. Too often there’s some galaxy threatening event and the characters can’t just live together. Seeing the girls all chill together was something I didn’t expect. And seeing Luke and the guys in a relatable situation was cool. The only problem was the faces. They all look the damn same and I have different images of the characters in my head. Corran and wedge and all the others looked to similar. But aside from that I rlly enjoyed it. Never knew how much I needed a slice of life SW book. Edit: I agree, the villains were so arse. The fights scenes had funny moments I enjoyed but the villains were the blandest I’ve ever seen. And Luke using talk no jutsu was funny. They’re not meant to be a serious threat ,the virus they want to use had been protected against ever scince coruscant was taken😂😂. But aside from that they were boring
@@laking09_57 I agree, this was a nice, refreshing, low-stakes story. I would’ve preferred if it was even MORE low-stakes and those boring villains weren’t even included but hey, it’s Star WARS, there’s gotta be some fighting somewhere I guess.
Tbh Luke's and Mara's marriage should've happened later (maybe during of the events of Survivors Quest since theyve been dating for 2 years)
@@ibmm3358 that’s fair. I’d probably blame Zahn for having them fall in love within the span of like a minute in the Duology lol
I really enjoy the concept of the comic, a slice of life tale, only issue was it was hard for me to tell who was who, as the picture of a lot of characters is different in my head then the comic.
Yeah, I had trouble keeping track of who was who, especially since they never formally introduce who all the faces are supposed to be.
Yo! Good video! & ranking I just finished this series in January. Here is my ranking: 1. The Day of Reckoning (#8) 2. The Captive Temple (#7) 3. The Fight for Truth (#9) 4. If you wanted to learn what happened to Yaddle and having to read a YA series to see that is why the EU is Phenomenal also explaining why yaddle doesnt exist in 2 and 3. This was of course before Disney and the Tales of the Jedi ahow but still. I love how the eu would explain things like thst even in young adult media
Apologizes for the Grammer wrote on a red light 🚨
I love Quest but doesnt hold a candle to Jedi apprentice for me. I think part of it is we kinda know enough about the Anakin obi relationship whereas Qui Gonn and Obi Wan it was fun to uncover more about their relationship
I definitely agree with you on the rivalry between Anakin and Ferus in the final book. That pages was so painful to read. Sometimes Anakin's behaviors were even worse than Attack of the Clones in this series and it's peaked in the final book. But quite opposite to Anakin and Ferus, I absolutely adored the dialogues between Obi-Wan and Siri. Their interactions are one of my favourite part of the Jedi Quest. This series has made me love Siri Tachi as a character and made Obi-Wan and Siri one of my favorite couples in the all Star Wars. And yes, I prefer her 10 times over Satine.
are you reading these books by pdf/epub, or are you buying them all?
I own them all physically
I really like the concept of a Force Blank, I get why Jude Watson didn't really expand on the concept, but I wish other authors did.
Yeah, and I like how it’s just a naturally occurring phenomenon, not something you can become skilled at, although there are similar powers you can practice, like what Palpatine did
ayyy another one
Excuse me Isards revenge has my favorite Booster moment where he beats Borsks ass.
Yes, that is true. Borsk getting his comeuppance was a fantastic scene
I had very few of these books. The only one I remember is Jabba's Palace ... received for Christmas one year, read it by New Year's!
I highly disagree with the tales from jabbas palace being bland
I still enjoyed it. I’m just very big on setting, that can heavily affect my enjoyment of the story. I just don’t think Jabba’s Palace translates to prose very well, and after a dozen stories, it got pretty tiring for me.
I'll always love Vader having Xizor killed.
Their rivalry was very entertaining
Reading sheild of lies. Yes, definitely structured differently which doesnt help it any. Was so excited to read it after before the storm then I got a thrird of the way through sheild of lies and was like, wth? Totally agree with Hamblys book ratings lol. Darksaber is the only book out of the Callista trilogy worth a darn. Actually surprised I, Jedi made it so high on your list. No trigger warning needed in my opinion. Everyones entitled to their own opinion and I enjoyed yours even it would differ from my own. Great video!
Just found your channel not long ago and I’m really glad I did even though our opinions on the Bantam Era differ greatly lol. My opinions are totally based on childhood nostalgia though lol. The Jedi Academy, I, Jedi, and most especially The Young Jedi Knights captivated me while I couldn’t have cared less about the X-Wing books or any of the Tales books. I need to refresh my memory on Truce, Courtship, and the Callista books though since those are the ones I remember the least to see if I agree with you lol. Anyway yeah the only series we seem to be in agreement on is anything with Thrawn in it lol
I find that our tastes are wildly divergent, though our reasons are not always dissimilar. My ranking looks more like this: Assault at Selonia Ambush At Corellia Shield of Lies Before the Storm Showdown at Centerpoint Tyrant's Test I, Jedi (I dislike first person narration, and Corran is an obnoxious cad. There are good ideas that went underdeveloped.) Children of the Jedi Splinter of the Mind's Eye Tales From the Empire Tales From the New Republic Tales From the Mos Eisley Cantina Tales From Jabba's Palace Courtship of Princess Leia Planet of Twilight (I have always loved this story, particularly Daala's entrance, the adventure of the droids, and a Hutt Jedi gone bad.) Spectre of the Past Dark Force Rising (I am generally biased against the middle book of any series.) Vision of the Future Crystal Star (Weird but fun, particularly the twins) Heir to the Empire (I always struggle when starting this book, however I will redeem myself later.) Truce at Bakura Dark Apprentice Jedi Search Darksaber (Have I mentioned that I have always loved Admiral Daala as a character?) New Rebellion (Leia's scene at the end of the book immediately after the climax has always saddened me, even as a boy.) Shadows of the Empire Champions of the Force Last Command (just a great climax to the series) Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi Star Wars: A New Hope (This was the novelization, with an insert of colored photographs from the movie, that began my long journey as a Star Wars fan. I said that I would be redeemed in the end. 😁) I enjoyed your rankings, even if I suffered a few triggered twitches. Lol
An interesting ranking, indeed. I still have to read those original trilogy novelizations one day
Nice breakdown. I haven't read all the books and it has been awhile. Thanks for putting this together.
