Take a look at THIS tiny thing. It isn't a Piccolo Banjo, but it's the closest size! Traditionally this scale length and tuning range would be considered a Banjeurine in the old language. You can find these banjos online sold as "travel banjos" which is an appropriate and fitting title.

Who would you rather have at your jam session, Chuck Berry or Yoko Ono?
Chuck Berry, less primal screaming is always good
Looks like a nice project. Hope you recorded the process

Thomastik Flatwound Mandocello Strings would save the frets from scratches.
It's a great instrument for singer-songwriters.
The frets help w/ playing in tune. Get N719 Strings for a shiny sound
It is portable
I'm inspired to try something more difficult than just strumming !
Excellent video
BRAVO!
Cool. I wish they'd teach instruments like this in schools. No one wants to hear a recorder
I saw one at a yard sale in February and was enthralled and am learning to play. It is grand!
play the damn thang son.....
Hotel California by The Eagles. 😊
This is to guitar what tenor guitar is to the mandolin.
Beautiful ✨
Hey, dude. Do you have a channel for your gaming?
Hey! How did this end up working out in the end after you got your slots sorted out? I am going to try this but am worried about break angle from the mandolin bridge.
I have the 4 string Irish tenor banjo and I love it. I'm a beginner, however.
I love your doggy ❤️
You just sold me!!! What brand /model is yours. It's beautiful.
Man! It's sound sweet than mine. And it doesn't even have a label?
That’s awesome!!!
My Grandfather was a salesman for the original Pianolins! I own one :)
My family got an autoharp recently and we just ordered a tuner for it. I wanted to look up some videos to get a feel for what it is sounded like and holy- after this one I am excited to learn!
Thank you!
Thank you, this was very informative!
sound heavenly
DUDE! This is insanely cool. I found your guitar > bouzouki video, but this goes so much more in depth. Those traditional instruments can be hard to come by and used guitars & more standard instruments are cheap and easy to come by. I am sure some traditionalists would have a fit over this but it sounds and works out so well.
I did picked a 4 string back in this year's january. I just like the sound more. Though, It's hard to find lessons with cgda tuning but im not giving up. There are few, and they are good but if someone starts from 0, it can be a bit challenging. I couldnt even find a teacher in my whole county. OOps. :) For 5 string there are so many videos, tabs and books! I do LOVE that isntruement, too, so im sure with time i'll end up learning the 5 string as well but it seems more challenging. Fun, sure, but challenging.
Would like to see you doing the restoration work in detail. Also the brass strings that you use can you share a source? Nice video. THANKS
The ukulin looks tough to make music with
Interesting. Is that snow outside ?
Sadly no, that's just the concrete out outside the front.
Yes to tutorials.
You got it
Hotel California.
You got it!
Have you ever played a Ukelin before? Have you ever seen on in person?
If you mean a mandolin that is turned as a ukulele then yes In fact I used to have a mandolin/banjo/ukulele hybrid I made my self
I learned to play this song with my grandpa 44 years ago, and I played it on my last gig.
That's fantastic. Must be great memories to have.
🤩
I love your music but love your dog even more! Discovered you searching banjo comparison.
Thank you for watching and messaging. I have even more banjo comparison videos coming as I have a variety of different kinds. Is there any kind of comparison you would like to see?
@@MountainHomeJerrel I just really enjoy your journey of discovery in music. Greetings from Australia.
I recognize it..I remember when Eisenhower was president.
I like Ike.
❤ Nice job!
Thank you!
First - Not only recognize it, have loved the versions recorded by Willie, Billie and Old Blue Eyes for many, many years. Next, an alternative approach is to install some "Color Chord" bars on the instrument to let you get the lush backing sounds some of these songs demand and deserve. For example, the harp I am bringing to MLAG in a few weeks is carrying bars for Am7, GM7, G6sus2, Dsus4 and G2.
Oh, nice! I do enjoy some spicy suspended chords now and then. What is MLAG?
Love your down-to-earth tone in your videos.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm not a CZcamsr so I can just be myself and talk to you guys the same way I would talk to a friend face to face.
did this instrument hold up over time? I'm a mandolin player trying to convert a soprano uke into a mandolin for airplane carry-on.
Absolutely. The instrument works great and hasn't had any problems at all.
I need to get me one of those. Looks super fun to press buttons and strum.
It really is a lot of fun. You've got some much dynamic range for picking and strumming that you can do rhythms other stringed instruments can't really do. This instrument pairs great with guitar, banjo, and mandolin.
Have you rearranged those chord bars, of is that how they came from the manufacturer? Do you re-felt, and where do you get the felt? How often? I found a 21-chord "Chroma-Harp" in a pawnshop and am trying to learn about these things. I think some of the chord bars need re-felting, mainly the C, F, and G. Any advice on support straps?
Thanks for messaging. I use a ln adjustable guitar strap and it works just fine. Getting felt is tough since it quite rare. Best bet is to find an online seller (perhaps on eBay). I have refelted some chord bars but I am still new to that process and have much to learn. I would advise asking Hal Weeks, an expert on that. I changed my Bb7 for Bm and Eb for E major. I only need to refelt if you find that you have to push uncomfortably hard on the chord bar in order to order to get a clean chord sound. It depends on how hard you play and how frequently you use certain chords. I keep my strings clean and occasionally condition them with a jewelry polish cloth to keep them looking and sounding good. String replacements are rare and expensive. If you want to subscribe, I'll share more advice and answer more questions for you.
Do you recognize song? Even better, are you old enough to have ever playing this song on a jukebox in a dive bar before?
Double stops must sound real heavenly... Great Presentation and felt like I was right there 😊
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. It's great to hear from you. I'll share more videos about this one. I really enjoy using it at music jams and sessions.
