    The irony of that Eteas system for security of EU borders is laughable. They want the fingerprints and inside leg measurements of legal British people whilst letting millions of unchecked illegals roam freely, genius. Mr Godden smugly talking about Brexit the way he did is bile inducing tbh. I hope it does them some good slowing us down as the French and German economies are in no fit state to lose thousands of UK travellers.

    Hi Matt, Great podcast! I’m a newbie concerning Motorhomes and wondering if there was a significant difference between motorhomes with a length of 6.9 metres compared with 7.4 metres. Seems to be a lot of choice around these 2 lengths. Does this increased length have a significant impact on where you can drive the Motorhome, I.e smaller lanes. Or can you drive both of these sizes pretty much where you like. We intend to drive throughout Europe and UK. Thanks for any advice! Love the podcast! 👍

    There is a lot of confusion on posts here between campsites for motorhomes in the UK versus Europe. The discussion is like light and dark. For MH’s with on board facilities, Europe is completely covered for Aires, Stellplatz et al for only £10’or £15 (some are free) for overnight stopovers with facilities for water electric and waste removal. In the UK we don’t have the similar facilities and many of the two main clubs are charging large fees and not the same type of overnight stopover service for MHs. Many of these sites are £30 plus a night. The sites are away from the villages and towns people want to visit. In Europe they welcome MH’s into their villages and towns and give parking and facilities to use so their visits can spend money in the towns for restaurants and shops etc. The Europeans understand the connection. Our UK councils generally do not understand that relationship hence the lack of facilities combined with locations and welcoming tourism for MH’s. I can’t see these problems resolving to many UK towns and regions with such Nimby selfish views from local residents. It is exactly the opposite views visiting in France Spain or Germany when I travel. Costs for accomodation and facilities with MH’s is a fraction of the UK AND it is far easier to visit in Europe towns and villages than the UK.

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed dnem

      Thanks for commenting. The two destinations do seem worlds apart in terms of ease of use don’t they?! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts thanks

    • @bluecarefreeforever

      @@MotorhomeMatt Thanks Matt. Yes UK and particularly France Spain and Germany their local regions or authorities are exactly the opposite with their attitude to MHs. Any discussion is good to improve the UK situation so well done for acting. Many councils particularly English counties and it’s worse to the south because of space yet many DO have the space but low barriers stop MHs and/or sell their land to NCP or similar. Meanwhile, MH’s try and use spaces along the coastal roads and local residents complain views of MHs from their windows and IMO wrongly blame MHs for littering. (litter will come with any tourism) Many MHs generally recognise litter issues and try and help and also they have self sufficient facilities and councillors miss that point. With councillors it’s a massive change of culture with how MH use their vehicles and also generally are good income for local businesses from MHs if allowed to get near them! Best wishes. đŸ‘đŸŒ

    ETEAS..?! we got hundreds of thousands of ‘irregular migrants’ they’ve just rebranded jumping on inflatables arriving every day. This just seems like another control mechanism and a way to restrict lawful tax paying citizens monitoring us China style control system, excuse me for being a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but if they really wanted to keep an eye on how & WHO are coming in and out the EU & UK the first thing they should do, is get a grip on the European court off Human Rights, (ECHR). and refused to accept a single ILLEGAL migrant, sending them straight back from whence they came.. Because we know the 89% of people who have been refused right to remain, still don’t get deported so imho it’s just a way to monitor US not them.

    Hi Matt, it’s not just dealers that need to raise their game but accessory outlets too. Went to Malvern on the Saturday with a long list of potential purchases and came away with basically nothing. Chairs seemed to be a general theme , where I was looking for advice and products for winterisation of my Moho. I thought at this time of year those type of products would have been more prevalent. Talking of which, a vlog by yourself covering Pros and cons of covers, winter rodent repelling, long term static tyre care and so on, would be much appreciated. Isn't it time we designed an entry system to ensure our European friends have the same travel experience that we do? Isn't it time HGVs from Europe have too pay to use our roads as our HGVs have to on theirs? They don't buy fuel here mostly as their tanks are big enough for a return trip to Scotland. Isn't it time we dreamt up a visa system charging ÂŁ7.50 every 3 years...... Oh and Villanova park, in over 10yrs and in excess of 200 stops, only places I've had kit stolen...

    IQ Go could prove to be far more expensive than other deals that are available. We use our motorhome every month and would need the largest data bundle. That means £260 per year including the subscription charge. This is more expensive than many other deals. The devil is always in the detail

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 3 dny

      @@MotorhomeMatt Hi Matt. We pay £10 month for a Smarty deal that gives 120gb for our motorhome router per month. We get a little discount through Smarty as we have our phones with them too. So it’s £120 per year for us. Plus it allows 12gb of roaming too I think. If we need more in Europe then an eSIM for a holiday period would be an option as would buying a sim in Europe. IQ, in my humble opinion, could be far more generous with their data packages and pricing. They are not a good option for me.

    It seems to me that IQ Go is targeted at the light occasional user. Once you start getting into medium to high use, the proposition could be as expensive if not more expensive than an unlimited contract. But I would certainly investigate it for European use. My Motorhome 5G Wi-Fi pro router can handle up to 32 connections. You just have to think about a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers (4 mobiles, 4 tablets, a laptop etc) along with all the other connected devices in the Motorhome (including smart TV’s) and you can/will burn through 100GB very quickly. I recently moved my home BB contract to EE and got an unlimited SIM for the motorhome for just £10 per month. All our Motorhome and personal devices are connected to it. I can also put that SIM in another mobile or my iPad to make/receive calls and texts as well as utilising the mobile data. So I thought that was a good deal. I’ve stoped worrying about what day of the month is it or how much data I’ve used on a particular trip. A lot less stressful.

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 3 dny

      That’s very true. I’ve had this conversation several times. It’s all about you understanding your data consumption needs. For some a Starlink is the most effective option. It is now for us at home and it works well!

    • @MikeGibson-Sharpe
      @MikeGibson-Sharpe Pƙed 3 dny

      The new Starlink mini is an interesting option. Especially if you flat mount it to the roof. I’m still not sure if you pause usage mid month, do you still pay for the full month? Also still expensive if you are just going to use it for the Motorhome. 50GB won’t last long with a family of four and If I use the unlimited roaming package for the full year it is £1,020 compared to the £120 EE sim deal. A big difference.

    • @dfm8195
      @dfm8195 Pƙed 3 dny

      I’ve used a Maxview Roam for three years now. I often work remotely from our motorhome and our kids and devices are large consumers of data. Each place we go I try to get the best coverage all you can eat data payg which results in a SIM card graveyard. Our phones are 3 network but have found EE payg Sim offers the best coverage but some locations still give poor coverage and not good enough for work video calls. With the Starlink Mini now with 12v I’m in the process of switching. The Mini can paused on a monthly basis and I have the luxury of buying through Ireland such cheaper unit and €56 per month rather than £85 for unlimited download. At £85 it doesn’t stand up and Starlink really need to sort out their variable charging approach in Regions.

    Great podcast as always. Our 'mistake' was to buy a motorhome from a company on another planet. Or it felt that way with 3 separate train journeys to get there. Baring in mind we need to do this (twice) for every hab check or warranty work. We ordered our MH at the NEC in Feb 22. So, the lesson here is to consider the distance, and travel arrangements needed when needing to go back to the supplier. And, if not keen on intergalactic travel, perhaps compromise on choice by sourcing a MH closer to your home world.

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 5 dny

      That’s very very good advice! And easily overlooked especially at a show like the NEC show and being new to it. Did you try and get a local dealer to do the hab check or an AWS workshop to step in?

    • @user-uj3fn6sv3s
      @user-uj3fn6sv3s Pƙed 5 dny

      @MotorhomeMatt it's a Chausson Matt, so only a Chausson dealer will do for the damp check. Not the hab check I know but whilst there and all that. Also, being a Chausson it has needed quite a bit of warranty work and I think we all know the limitations on that. On a positive note, the dealer is Highbridge, who have been pretty good, so can't complain.

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 3 dny

      We have several Chausson motorhomes in our hire business. This restriction is a real pain isn’t it. Highbridge are only 40 minutes from us and we have had reasonably good experience of their great team. Their need to have the vehicle for a week is really inconvenient and expensive for us so on several occasions we have gone to Elite or River. Arrive, hab check done and home in a day, saving us over £1000 in lost revenue. Thanks again for replying.

    merci pour votre analyse du marché anglais , en Allemagne aussi il y a des défaillances de concessionnaires, il semble que 80% des clients perdent leur acompte !!! En France , je n'ai pas eu écho de cela, mais j'imagine que les lignes de crédit ne suffiront pas. Pour ce qui est des campings, en France, il y des campings trÚs onéreux (piscine, spa, show...) et de plus en plus des aires de services parfois gratuites, ou gérées par des sociétés comme AIRE SERVICES ou CAMPING CAR PARK

    What do you think of the Carthago Liner for Two, with the lounge at the back, still with storage, and a big bed that drops down over the captains chairs at the front. It seem like the best of both worlds, I just need them to strengthen the rear storage so it will fit two superbikes to travel around Europe. Though, as the info says that can have 450Kg within it, you're saying that shouldn't be used to that level as it's behind the rear axle?

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 6 dny

      It is a fantastic motorhome. At this price point there are many more options including as you state a lovely rear lounge with large amounts of storage underneath. If the garage is rated at 450kg then I would say yes use it but be mindful if you put something very heavy above in the lounge that is part of the weight on the rear axle. The garage max weight is usually referencing a weight behind the axle. Hope that makes sense and thanks for commenting. One last question
 are you lucky enough to be buying a Liner for Two? 🏆

      @@MotorhomeMatt I'm looking at that or the Le Voyageur 8.5 CL ( not sure if eterna or heritage ). In many ways I'm leaning towards the Carthago, as I really like the 'four room' concept and the spacious lounge and kitchen, but, I like a number of features like drone view of the Le Voyageur. I'm thinking of just asking Carthago to find a way to add those items in to their technology pack. On that, at that price point what other players in this space do you think I should consider? I'm also looking at track day organisers who can take car of storage and transport of my bikes, so I don't have to haul them around with me.

      @@MotorhomeMatt There are a couple there I haven't looked at, will most certainly see what they offer. EDIT-That was a quick check. @@MotorhomeMatt What is your view of buying vs leasing a motorhome, such as a fully optioned liner for two. After I ticked all the boxes it came out just shy of GBP$300k. Doable up front, but, can it/does it make more sense to 'lease' that over 10yrs at which stage you drop it off and take hold of the new model? I suspect it will be the death of motorhomes. I'm sure they'll be usable EV campervans, but that will be it. There are three issues. The weight of the batteries will eat up any payload and probably take them into hgv territory. Where do you charge them? Many motorhomes are kept in storage because people don't have the driveway space for them, or if they live on new estates, there are planning restrictions or byelaws that prevent them from storing them at home. Lastly, EV'S are far more expensive than their internal combustion engine alternatives. This could mean that a motorhome that currently costs around ÂŁ70k is likely to be well over ÂŁ100k. Ironically, it may well push more people into foreign travel by air!

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt Pƙed 9 dny

      Since this episode we’ve unpacked a lot of this topic and the future is unclear for motorhomes as much as it is for the wider transport types! A lot needs to evolve and change. I think diesel motorhomes which will be here long after 2030 will continue to offer value and a great holiday alternative to one abroad by plane. Even the consumer of holidays will change over the next 30 years. The silver pound pension payout generation will die out (literally) and people will have to work longer. A complicated landscape of change! And thus an exciting time to be alive! Thanks for commenting

      @@MotorhomeMatt it was regarding the Fiamma bike racks failing & falling off the back of certain Auto-Sleeper Motorhomes because they are bonded rather than being mechanically fixed through the bodywork with bolts & strengthening plates as they usually would be. Feel I raised quite valid questions about insurance & responsibility if the motorhome you are driving suddenly has a bike rack fail & if you are liable in such a situation? I’m also curious to know what fiamma thinks of their bike racks being bonded to motorhomes rather than the specifications they suggest, it’s all very concerning.
