I am a middle aged guy who enjoys being a visual story teller, model building, military history and hotrod cars. Together with some friends, I will chronicle some of my adventures adding my own brand of historical commentary. Being a member of the Western Military History Association has definitely given me a unique perspective! I am also an active member of the International Plastic Scale Modelers Society. I plan on giving some historical insights as I build some of the different modeling projects I do, as well as sharing some of my Technics for building and weathering plastic models, and just so you know most of my techniques are old school. Come along as I go to model shows, car shows, museums and other unique adventures. The banner photo is courteous of Photostarr Images.

I love when companies make kits like this that are unique
@@makoajohnson2341 me too! Lots of opportunities to create something unique
I’m about to start this kit and found your video to be very helpful. I’m nervous about the fitting issues and gaps since I intend on lighting it as well. Thank you for the heads up! ☺️
@@scalemodelsnail Oh, you're welcome. I'm glad I could help. If you haven't seen my video on something called spru, goo, check that out.It may help you out in filling these gaps
The Tamiya kits are really fun.
@@smithgroove945 I have a diorama plan for this That sounds fun, stay tuned.
I had an orange '68 "Rainbow of Colors" Mustang that I only kept for about 15 months (Viet Nam), but I still love her and wish I still had her. I thought the color was referred to as simply "Tangerine." I've got several pictures if you want to see them. She came with a 302, and no trim, but was loaded with options, except A/C.
@@snchilders would love to see the pictures. b24ploesti@gmail.com
Very nice, and at that scale they still have lots of detail.
@@willt9172 agreed, these are really nice. Thanks for watching.
Tamiya is goof acrylic. But a lot of the water based stuff is not durable at all

cool kit.
Since you liked the teal, have you considered clearwater aqua? Other than that, the cherry.
@@JustBelowAverageModelCars that is a nice color
Good morning at 1pm Merv. Just now getting to my coffee. I love the Mustang. I like the Black Cherry. 👍
cool project merv.
@@Bubbasmodelcarshop Thanks this ought to be fun
The color should ultimately be whatever you like best, but i vote for the frost turquoise. Its unique! Best wishes and good luck with the project.
@@ronandanne1 Thanks for responding. That is definitely in the top 3 of colors. I'm looking at and ultimately might wind up that color depending on how the body work goes.
Considering Chev had alot of gold cameros in that era & vicinity,nahhh...(even though gold looks awesome).white is an option for easy interior match up. Who knows which way the wind blows.Get the pony up and galloping first.🚦
@@m.e.9974 My very first car was a beautiful gold color and I'm not against that. I just think there's some other ones that I would much prefer to the factory gold that year. But gold is definitely in my top ten
Hey Merv, Chris here…… great project……awesome stuff!!!!
@@c.d.scalemodels9198 Thanks. I know. This is going to take a while to get this project where I want it But, at least we are making slow progress.
I do like black cherry, but that would be expensive🤔. I'd go for the stock gold colour😉.. I couldn't handle the pink first thing in the morning😃
@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 That black cherry is a color I've always wanted to try.
This should be a very interesting project. Looking forward to the process, especially with the budget you set. As for the color... I like C (Black Cherry) but if you are not going to put a lot into fixing the body then a color like this will just highlight all the flaws. So that means E (Purple) is out also. You need a light color to hide the flaws you aren't going to fix. Personally like D (Saturnine Gold).
@@Dirks_NUMA_Files Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. For many years, I've wanted to do that. Chrysler minivan black cherry. When you get up close to it, it just looks so neat and I think it would be a fun color on a Mustang. And the power for purple is really my leading choice so far. The body is going to be straight, but not perfect for sure. So we'll see where I wind up. That's saturing gold. It's nice when it's new and shiny. But then it fades to kind of a crappy lime gold that I really don't like. A long way to go to we get there, but at least give me some things to think about on the way
Do you know if super glue works on flexible tracks like the ones on the academy Sherman? I know you're planning a different approach but just wondering. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos!
@@ronandanne1 Unfortunately, no super glue is far too brittle and has no sheer strength. Whatsoever, the best thing to do is use tamia.Ultra thin cement. And if that doesn't do it, then you have to heat it up and melt it like the instructions say

Great stuff. I'm glad you've answered my high bustle turret question. I see academy have upped the quality of their M.G's in this with slide moulded ones. You left out nearly every important detail about Model Monkey 3-D after market parts. They are amazing in detail, the company does package the parts very well and gets them out fast. I have used many of their USS Arizona 1/350 scale parts...just stunning in its detail. What you should impart to your viewers and Model Monkey states this on their website...these parts are for very experienced/expert builders because...these parts are fragile, very fragile, so just getting these parts off the "sprues" has to be done carefully. Damaging these parts is like dropping a Ming Dynasty vase, it's an afront to the beauty of the detail and exact scaling. Second, the exacting scaling of Model Monkey's parts and the very less exacting scale of the original kit manufacturer don't always match up...there's some modification needed to get the parts to fit on the original hull/deck and "cross-fitting doesn't always go easy...but if you want real scale parts and you want a ship that screams quality...you have to get these. Remember when you modify the deck/hull, you also have to modify any "pre-fabbed" wooden decks. It just, as the webpage says very clearly, takes a different level of skill to get the benefit.
@@brianfoley3925 Thanks for commenting. Yes, it really does take a whole new skill. Level and mindset, but once you master how to use these parts. They are superior to pretty much everything, including most scratch building.
Interesting to listen to you again,Merv. Any idea of the best source of high bustle turrets🤔. Glad you had a good 4th👍and best wishes from jolly old England👍😎 Pete 🤓
@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 So there are 4 good sources. I've found one is the Tamiya. M4A3 kit, another is an Azuka kit ( Although I'm not sure which one I have several, but i don't usually like to build the azuka kits, so they're more sitting in my collection than anything else.) Dragon has an M4A3 late. It says ETO on the box. And finally, the one that I'm using is the Academy M4A2 Pacific Sherman. It is a late model M4A2 and has a high bustle turret in it. It even has the split commander's hatch, which is what I need.
@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 You probably already know this, but you will need an M4A1 Hull with the small hatches that have the dome in them. That coupled with the high bustle, turret, with the split commander's hatch, and you'll be able to properly replicate aunt Jemima one And 2.
@@maddogmerv I must admit I've done no research yet, apart from looking for the roller kit. I've been trying to remember if any cheap old italeri or tamiya kits had turret. I haven't thought seriously about Sherman's for years and do have loads of books and articles on them, mainly Zaloga and imperial war museum. I just bought a neat kit of Stuart radial engine and two fitters

@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 So as I was picking up the kit.I needed for the Correct turret on this build, I found a box of figures from some company that I can't even pronounce the name.
