If you are interested in testing the color change try comparing a picture from before and then after. You can also try a blind test, by posting two pictures and asking people which one is redder. You would know which one was fed the krill too.

This stuff works , but be aware there are several types of this algae . Took three doses but did the job after 2 weeks or so , turn up the oxy levels and flow up .

Gutted I couldn't watch this live! I loved the anoxic filtration part- he put a very complex process in such simple terms that pretty much everyone can understand the concept & have a decent shot of being successful with it. I have low flow undergravel filters for the very reasons he describes. Some of my undergravel filters have been running for 3 or 4years now & those tanks all run low to no nitrates even if they don't get a water change for 6 months over summer & have a reasonably heavy stocking in them due to daily breeding with high egg & fry survival rates, as the surface area is so high (the entire substrate, filter plates & bottom surface of the tanks) & has been undisturbed for a good 3 or 4years. I admit I stopped trying to gently educate people on achieving full cycles in their tanks a few years ago, as too often I got vigorously attacked by those that seem to think a certain site (which claims/claimed anoxic filtration doesn't work) is the fish keeping bible & I was there trying to destroy it or something. I've never used a Matten filter before, but they essentially sound like a reimagining of undergravel filters- the substrate is replaced by foam/sponge, the undergravel plates are replaced by baffles to hold the foam in position & instead of the position being on the bottom of the tank, it moves to the side or a corner of the tank. I might look at setting one up when I reset another tank instead of an undergravel & see how they compare long term.

1:03:11 think my canisters get cleaned every 8-10months. Sponge filters maybe every 3 months as they are quite a "fine" sponge material that cloges fast if that makes sence lol.

I do 50% water change in EVERY TANK... EVERY WEEK. 40+tanks. Everyone seems to think I am crazy and doing it all wrong. Of course... that is why they spend all their time trying to treat illnesses.... and I never do. Every tank constantly breeding and growing. Test kits only scratch the surface of the micro components contained in fresh water. These minor elements make all the difference in the long term, and simply can't be replicated without water changes. Three years of consistency without a single outbreak of disease. I really don't care who else takes my advice... I personally am CONVINCED.

Nitrates are IRRELEVANT. Water changes STILL NECESSARY for a healthy aquarium. Nothing will ever change my mind... no matter how alluring the idea of not doing the work is.

Interesting experiment thanks for that. I would've thought with duckweed growing like a.. well.. weed, it would soak up all nutrient like crazy including nitrate. Those nitrate levels were getting hairy! ('scuse the pun) I would've certainly pulled the pin sooner but still good to know things never really improved over a decent timeframe. It doesn't need to be crazy scientific like others have suggested, we can conclude quite reasonably from this that duckweed has no discernible effect over nitrates. Another interesting experiment would be to run it again but this time with fast growing stem plants etc and see if the results differ
