    first, the reason you are confused is because the title is actually " Who mourns for Adonis" not Adonais. I have the entire series. So wherever you watched that episode clearly they had a typo. Second, I want you to know that there is more to this story and if you want to know the true ending, then here it is. Roddenberry's wife authorized 2 groups to make the rest of the episodes that should have been released as the fourth season. I suggest you don't watch any of them until you complete the series, other than the one im dropping to you and perhaps "Fairest of them all" since you already watched " Mirror Mirror" The stories are amazing and everything feels like the original series minus the original actors for obvious reasons. But even the original actors are in some episodes as i'll show you once you are done all 3 seasons. czcams.com/video/3G-ziTBAkbQ/video.html

    Kirk's sarcasm toward Mr. Baris is warranted given the misuse of the Code One distress signal. On a different note, even though the actors that play Korax and Lazarus are not the same, I do see a strong resemblance between them.

    I had to do some quick research, but I thought I'd read the Tribble dealer was originally supposed to be Harry Mudd. It would have been great to see Mudd here, but I couldn't find any proof this was ever a consideration. But I did find that writer David Gerold wanted Boris Karloff in the role. Sadly, at the time he was in very poor health and passed away a year or two after this was filmed.

    The Klingon commander is not Trelane. However, William Campbell, the actor who portrayed the Klingon commander, did also portray Trelane. I loved this episode, but I was always thrown off a bit from the apparent disconnect between Kirk and Scotty in the post-brawl debriefing. Kirk's own deep love for the Enterprise was well documented by this episode.

  • @arthurcamargo8416
    @arthurcamargo8416 Před 3 hodinami

    Sherman's Planet was important and so was the grain. The planet had strategic value for both Klingons and Humans alike, since it was in a disputed area of the neutral zone. So the deal was that whoever can manage the planet and its resources the best can lay claim to it. Growing the wheat and making it sustainable for humas or Klingons would do that for either race. So if the grain failed, then the Klingons could lay claim to the planet and gain a strategic outpost. Poisoning the grain was a great scheme that would only have worked with an agent on the inside who could hide the fact that the grain was poisoned while implying that it was just a failure to produce a usable grain. It could be that other crops were poisoned as well, which is why the quadrotriticale grain may have been the only grain to grow. This episode is considered a classic because of the kind of humor that was involved. It really was a well-written episode.

    Great reaction! I tend to prefer the hard sci-fi and moral exploration episodes over the comedic ones. The snark is fun in a way, but for me it's a bit out of character (especially Kirk's interactions with Baris, which seem overdone to me). My favorite scene is Scotty in the bar turning a deaf ear to insults about Kirk, but throwing punches when the Enterprise is insulted. That's classic Montgomery Scott! However, in the 1970's I did purchase David Gerrold's "The Trouble with Tribbles: The Birth, Sale and Final Production of One Episode" which describes his experience creating the story and how it became an actual TOS episode (I probably bought it in 1974 or 1975). It is a fascinating glimpse into the world of television show writing and production in that era, and has 32 pages of photos. It also contains the script for the episode, and describes how the tribbles were made. I think I bought it more for general info about the show, but I may have liked TTwT more back then...

    Great reaction I’m glad you enjoyed this episode as most of us do. Yes Klingons ware usually about five times as Strong as I don’t human, especially imperial Klingons ware and the ones with the foreheads from the movies and the other generations of Star Trek the original they couldn’t afford all the make up so they just did regular humans with basic make up, but the way it is that shortly in the past scientist was trying to get the strength of the Klingons for his for his special humans which is like Kawan wand he got their strength, but he managed to mutate DNA so some of them look like humans, but they’ve been able to over the years that genetic r out of the Klingons with some surgery they can bring them back to imperial Klingons in the next generation hardly any human Klingons left Thanks for the fun until next time

    I recently saw an interview with James Doohan son Chris. He said dad brought him and his brother to the set one day and said you can stay in my dressing room or hang out in the shuttle craft. No surprise, they chose the shuttle craft and were told not to leave. Well of course they left and they found a door to open. All the tribbles fell out so they ran back to the shuttle. And when Scotty returned and found his son’s there he said “good boys”. Chris said it was years later when he confessed what they had done and dad didn’t speak to them for 2 weeks!😂

    You're right, Bunny, about Trelayne being one of the Klingons, but the other one was not the actor who played Lazarus in "The Alternative Factor." The actor who played Lazarus was Robert Brown -- who, a year or so after his appearance on Star Trek, became the star of a show called "Here Come the Brides", a series based loosely on the Mercer girls who were brought from the east coast in the 1860's to Seattle, which had a desperate shortage of marriageable women. That series is all but forgotten now (although it is available on DVD), which makes me sad, because when I was in junior high, it was my second favorite TV show. (Star Trek was my favorite.)

    I don't dislike the time travel episodes, but I do recognize that they don't always explain everything adequately. As I understand the science of how memories are created/retained, perceived events change the brain chemistry and if our understanding is correct then the resolution makes sense. The changes would not be encoded if the individual were sent back before the event happened, so no memory exists.

The Lazarus actor Robert Brown could possibly have filed a grievance with SAG that his double In the trippy crossover section was obviously much less fit than him. All you need to do to keep the land is improve it. Build a structure or farm the land. That is the treaty between the Klingons and the Federation. The federation planned to use the wheat to farm. The Empire needed to stop them and put their own plan in action.

      That's a "borderline spoiler." I won't delete it, but you really shouldn't even go that far. There's no positive to be gained, from her perspective or from her audience's perspective, to telling her that. It adds nothing to her experience, or to that of those of us enjoying seeing someone bright and respectful experiencing all of this for the very first time. Please try to avoid even the most "subtle foreshadowing." Let her experience all of this, 100% fresh, the same way we did when the episodes first aired. In other words, no one, on the day this episode first aired, knew anything about any possible future appearances of characters, creatures, etc. Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't. We didn't know. And neither should she. That's the whole intent of this content, remember. 👍

    The quintessential Star Trek episode referenced everywhere ! So you saw the problem ritgh away. You must have some Vuldan ancestry or there is some Klingon blood in you also... (or both?) A shame Scotty couldn't meet you, you would have been the good match for him. Back then canon about Klingons was not yet set in stone. Since then, Klingons are superior in strength, supposedly since when the script needs it, they are not always... (same goes for Vulcans).

He will be missed.

    This is a no-spoiler comment: William Campbell played Trelane in "The Squire of Gothos" and he played Koloth in this episode. Michael Pataki played Korax (the Lazarus look-alike) in this episode. Robert Brown played Lazarus in "The Alternative Factor". According to the terms of the Organian Peace Treaty, Sherman's Planet would be awarded to whichever side could develop its resources most efficiently. The Federation wanted to develop the planet by growing a high-yield grain (quadrotriticale) there. The Klingons were trying to sabotage Federation efforts to develop the planet.

  • @bigdream_dreambig
    @bigdream_dreambig Před 13 hodinami

    Don't forget that Kirk had a reason to _really_ dislike the Federation representative (which is what led to his snark): he sent out an unjustified "disaster-level" distress call. It's like he called 9-1-1 and said there was a mass casualty event, when in reality nothing had happened and he just wanted every guard possible to rush over to protect his grain.

    Truly one of the greats. So much humor and a pinch of action. As for the Tribbles, some behinds-the-scenes footage revealed that the staff was challenged to figure out how to make a whole army of these things without it taking a year to produce. Apparently, yards upon yards of faux fur with a minimal amount of sewing and stuffing involved. Their featureless bodies made it possible to mass produce without blowing out the budget. Still, I don't recall the featurette giving a hint as to how long it took, regardless. Just that they could get each one done at a great pace. Why, I even got one... somewhere. It coos so joyfully when held. An interesting sci-fi convention acquisition, to say the least. . As for how strong Klingons are? Erm... 'Yes'. ;P . _I would have sworn that this episode was already reviewed, some time ago. So, if I ever mentioned one strand of fur about Tribbles in the past, I'm sorry._

      I always just assumed that Klingons were expected to spend a lot of time working out. I'm not joking. The average human is much less strong than the typical "chad" you'll find spending every day in the gym. The members of the Klingon "warrior caste" are expected to train their bodies to the Klingon "warrior ideal." Of course, for a society to function, there need to be a lot of other roles within that society. There are Klingon janitors, Klingon book publishers, Klingon television hosts, Klingon school teachers, you name it. The "warrior caste" is simply the most powerful and influential caste. And to be a member of that caste, you need to be as physically powerful, mentally cunning and ruthless, intellectually wise and knowledgeable, and (ideally) morally honorable as you can make yourself. But to assume that the Klingons we see somehow represent "all Klingons" is rather silly. Furthermore, we are never told "klingons are super-strong." Not really. We're told that Klingon warriors are fearsome warriors, certainly. But how is this different than being told that "Delta Force" soldiers are tougher than typical submarine crewmen? The error too many Trek fans arrive at is falling into the "stereotypes are reality" attitude towards all members of all non-human races. Cultural norms certainly influence... a member of a typically profit-and-money oriented culture might nevertheless put that aside to become a starship officer, serving for some other cause. An "honorable Klingon warrior" might betray his entire culture to their greatest enemy. But it goes well beyond that. Thinking in stereotypes is not always entirely bad, but it is a trap which easily can become VERY bad. We know, as a fact, that members if the Klingon warrior caste are typically the most capable hand-to-hand warriors we're familiar with. We do NOT know that they have inherent "super strength," nor is this ever so much as hinted at. The strength of a Klingon warrior is "earned." That's kind of the whole point! We can't go into more detail without falling into spoiler territory. But I could go through the list of every major Klingon warrior character we've ever met, on TV or in the films, and could individually debunk the claim that any one of them was "super-powerful." We've simply never been shown this. And we HAVE been repeatedly shown the opposite.

      @@carybrown851 My point wasn't about Klingon culture, it was about Klingon anatomy. I understand that not every Klingon is a soldier, and that they would certainly have different levels of physical fitness. But different species do have different anatomy. For example, an out of shape grizzly bear would still outmuscle the strongest human bodybuilders. As far as anatomical advantages of Klingons, I can point to multiple references in TNG and Voyager. I don't see how these would be considered spoilers, but just to be safe, I'll just say you can probably find everything I'm referencing on either Memory Alpha or Memory Beta. Additionally, like I said, trek has also just been inconsistent on this matter.

    Captain Kirk probably should've come up with a different punishment for Scotty, something to keep him away from his technical journals.

      I've always been a prolific and very rapid reader. My dad actually thought I read too much, when I was growing up, and took away my books to "make me go outside more." He had no idea how much time I spent playing with my friends outdoors after school. It was actually a really bad thing for him to do. He eventually recognized my natural "information sponge" skills, and his intentions were fine, but the action itself was unpleasant and counterproductive. Restricting Scotty from studying would have been counterproductive on every level. And Kirk knew it. 🤫

    4:04 Tribbles. They would make _ideal_ pets if they didn't _breed_ so friggin much. I don't think they even have gender. They're born pregnant. Take _one_ tribble, _feed_ it too much, and you've got five. Let each of them get too much food and you get _25._ Let each of _them_ get too much food, and suddenly, you've got _125._ In three generations, your subsistence responsibilities have increased 125-fold. On their home planet, they exist at the _very bottom_ of the food chain. Their numbers are kept under control by the abundance of natural predators. The _perfect_ example of an invasive species.

    Yes, that's the actor who played Trilane (probably spelled it wrong).
