This is such a radical shortening of the wonderful story of Joseph that most of the beauty and theological depth of the story is lost. Joseph's hiding his own identity and testing his brothers (Gen 42-25) is reduced to a single phrase. Radically summarizing 13 chapters of Scripture into a single "one-size-fits-all" story to be the source for translation into other languages is not the best way to do oral Bible storying, in my opinion.

I believe this is intended as a source text for translation into other languages. I don't think the term the term "confident promises" is the best term to use as a key term formula for "covenant," since "confident" normally means "feeling or showing confidence in oneself; self-assured," and normally describes people or groups of people. "Certain promises" or "unbreakable promises" might be more helpful for those who will translate this story.

Read the David Covenant in an earlier translation. When God starts to talk about if the future kingS after David get out of line, he will "strike" or handle THEM with the rod of man. I was listening to another channel about the Davidic Covenant and that guy used a translation that changed them to him. How can you take what was plural and turn it into something that is singular. Study multiple translations online. This is the information age so go study it and know the truth.
