Hello, Russell! I'd like to ask you a question that I'm very concerned about. I was talking to some of my sports group mates and we agreed that we all prepare for shooting differently, but one thing we have in common is that we don't control the movement and the target shot itself, we just give the command and wait for the body to do it all by itself. I would like to ask what is meant by conscious and controlled shooting if all we do is turn off our brains and give the command? When I have tried to shoot under control by making a fully conscious movement to a certain point on the target, I have been told that this is wrong, but then I don't understand what is the difference between that and flipping a coin before each shot. I just wonder where the master gets the confidence and control during the series, if he will not control and kind of aim at the target. Sorry for the large amount of text, it's just a sore subject for me
It’s a good question. You need to master all the technical issues on the practice range to the point where shooting near perfect rounds is habitual. THEN you have to trust that in competition it will just happen. Your brain has learnt it in practice so you have to have BELIEF that it will work when it counts. If you try and shoot mechanically under pressure you will fall apart.
George digweed is the man in the shooting game no doubt.
Luv this stuff. What a class guy! Shoots like an Olympic champion. Looks like a Hollywood actor. Behaves like a humble man. How often do you see this in ANY sport!?
Hello.what is the best pourcentage of bullets for a rifle to put at the bottom and at the top?
It depends on the discipline. We have a video on this topic
Helloo in trap shooting Olympic or American what is the best pourcentage of bullets for a rifle to put at the bottom and at the top?
Higher for American than Olympic
Thanks for getting folks off the couch ! Fitness should be part of your daily regimen anyway
We agree!
This is an excellent video!! Very clear and concise!!
Watching him shoot is watching poetry in motion. It's like watching Gayle Sayers run with a football or Sam Snead hit a golf ball. SMOOTH and graceful! And as to the question of the 10 best in GB compared to the 10 best here in the U.S., of course we'd win. We have 5 times the population of the U.K. and many, many more places to shoot. On a per capita basis, I would contend that GB have better shooters. And finally, do I ever agree with him on patterning! His philosophy is exactly how I feel. I just wish I could shoot at his level too! LOL
Is that an SO5 ?
Hello Russel, thank you for your valuable insights … is getting over the gun with the knees not particularly bent better than bending the knees quite a bit ? How does one go about it ? Thank you
@@jumbodog5955 I think if you have a narrow stance you don’t really need to bend your knees. For those that need a wider stance for stability and balance I recommend a slight bending of the knees to aid fluency and smoothness in your barrel swing
@@GoShooting thank you Russel
Perfect method 💪🏻. Thank you for sharing this coach!
Glad you liked it!
Interesting process to consider. Definitely worth a try to determine how it works for the shooter. Thank you for sharing !
I guess I don't want to know. But thank you for this great video
No worries!
Thank you on another great video Champion! When shooting bunker(olympic) trap do you personally shoot by seeing figure 8 and "floating" the bird or shooting flat ribbed "covering" the bird?
I always think floating the bird slightly is advisable

Birthday greetings Mr. Mark Russell. God bless you

Hello from South Korea! I've been watching your videos for a year now. Your content is incredibly valuable to me because there's almost no useful information available in Korean for amateur trap shooters to learn from. Thanks to your videos, I've been able to improve my performance in Olympic trap shooting, going from hitting 8 to 12 targets to now hitting 18. I appreciate the effort you put into creating these coaching videos for free and hope everything is going well with Mr. Mark and Mrs. Mark.
Hey coach thank you millions! This issue is a nightmare for us. Tons of attitudes around this matter but not a solid start point to share clearly. And here you are with a brilliant video. Two questions please: 1. Is below recipe correct for two eyed Olympic shooters ? * barrel is @min. 50 cm above the lip ? * a soft focus is around the bead excluding below the barrel, meaning it shall be like a crescent ? * focus on something small in the zone intercepting within the hypothetical crescent ? * focusing on stg. will help quiet eye then call ? * in order not to miss the flash, we must hypothetically distribute the focus as like: 70% crescent, 10% barrel/bead and 20% below the barrel ? 2. In ideal conditions is it better to have always a concrete hold point no matter the scheme is and no matter you exactly know the cross points per station; or is it better to have a dynamic hold point according to the cross points per schemes and stations ?
1. Is correct and I would go with 2. part a Well done
@@GoShooting thank you very much coach 🙏🏻
Dang I enjoyed this. I have a friend who represented Gamebore shells and got to know George. He said that he and Kate were first class folks and I believe it! He's the GOAT at English Sporting and FITASC for sure!

@@GoShooting what a great read. Bob Brister was a friend of mine and I used to listen to him talk about columbaire pig ion shooting in Europe. I would have loved to watch him in his prime!
I started out shooting long-range tactical precision. So I take a nice deep breath and exhale, mount, take another nice breath to calm my heart rate, call for target and shoot at the bottom of my exhale each and every time. That's when your heart rate is at its slowest and your body the most calm. It's also when your vision is the clearest and widest.
A great interview! Since Vinnie mentioned his coach at AMTU was Dean Clark, I wanted to share this memory about Dean. In 1976-1978 when I was the Remington rep in Ohio, I met Dean and his father because I attended and participated in both International and American Skeet events. (My mentor and friend had been John Satterwhite when we both lived in Washington State.) Dean's father was looking for sponsorships to help with the expenses and I gave them some shells, but that was all. My advice to his father was for him to join the Army (I had served as an Airborne Infantry officer) and get on the AMTU at Fort Benning if his goal was the Olympics. Dean, of course, made the Olympic team, but their participation in the Soviet Union was cancelled for political reasons. We had Dean, Matt Dryke, Dan Carlisle and Al Mullins visit Lordship and Remington Farms a time or two in the early 1980's. Dean continued to serve his Country and became the AMTU Skeet coach.
So the selector doesn't control which barrel is fired first? You fire your first shell, relesse the trigger then fire your second shell? Just confirming for trap doubles.
Yes the selector certainly controls which barrel goes first. In Trap Doubles shoot the bottom one first with a more open choke than the top barrel has
@@GoShooting So you select which barrel fires first then after you've fired you can squeeze the trigger again for the second shot? Thanks.
I will feel safe with such a woman.
All I know about steel is that I sailed the first five ducks I shot at when forced to use it that the dogs couldn’t find. Went home and haven’t shot it since. Good video as it shows why. 👍🏼
Hi Russell. I have a 101 Win trap gun. The rib is 14.6 to 15mm wide. Can i ask does that factory rib have mount or machined fall from muzzle to breach ie higher at muzzle droping back down at breach or is it flat no fall. I have a engineering shop lined up to mill out alloy rib 10mm high to go on top of factory Win rib. Do you think i need to mill off fall or just leave flat to follow existing factory rib with taper off at breach

Finally a simple, clear and doable exercise program for everyone and not only clay shooters. I'm 69 and just started shooting again after and absence of 20 years. I've always did similar exercises to these and always wondered why shooters never placed any value on exercising. Exercises like these are so valuable for everyone and a sure benefit for we Clay Target shooters. I am most thankful to you for presenting us with such a useful exercise program.
Good physical fitness helps also to deal with the mental pressure. 👍
Mark!
Really enjoyed that. Very insightful and much appreciated. Are there any exercises you'd recommend for improving/maintaining eyesight? Thanks for posting.
Ed Lyons is the eye man for shooting, look him up!
Being fit is always best however many of the world’s best shooters are morbidly obese (as no doubt you know). I will say, as an athlete and runner plus 40 years as basically a laborer working 12 hr days now that I’m retired, gaining weight as losing mobility fast due to not being near as active, my 3P shooting scores have actually improved. Lost a little prone, but my standing scores have shot up. Is it solely from gaining weight and becoming stiff? Can’t say. Anyway, as always, enjoyed the video and commented just to comment as supposedly it helps support your channel. 😁👍🏼👍🏼
The muscle tone in 4:38 ! what a fine specimen.
This is a great perspective, it can have a really meaningful impact on your shooting to build strength and fitness.
Very valuable information. Thanks so much 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I shot skeet many years ago, and now just getting into trap shooting. It’s quite a different experience, so I’ll probably spend time at your channel learning. Thanks 😊!
Thank you. Ten thousand thumbs up!!!!!

I remember clearly Bruno Rossetti, bronze medalist in the same 1992 competition, describing her rifle as a "supermarket toy" and wondering what she could have achieved with a quality one!!
Really underrated gun, but a real workhorse on the range.
How do you select which one shoots first ?
What model shotgun do you have? On the barrel selector one red dot will generally mean the bottom barrel will be fired first.
Dan Carlisle, the American father of sporting clays great job Dan
Dan Carlisle is a legend. I took lessons from him in the early 2000’s and he was a phenomenal coach. However, as I’m sure Dan would agree, the late Bob Brister is the true father of sporting clays in the U.S.
Wow! I am SO glad you two are back putting out videos. I recommend your Skeet series all the time. My average is 23. Last week I shot a perfect game 3 days in a row - and I just shot one game per day!. Your series (which I viewed who knows how many times) got me started.
