@@dcleal1 at least you got them and didn't lose them
Always good to see them going into a box. Don't go up ladders though to get them! Not pleasant falling off (I've done it!)😊
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 😂😂, hopefully I won’t have too
Watch David Burns master beekeeper. Need to add wax to your foundations they will draw it out faster. It did swarm. Save the queens and make a small resource hive incase you need a queen in one of your main hive
@@robertofkennedy yeah I do watch him at times he is good…They are already wax but yeah if I add more there build quicker.?
@dcleal1 I'm almost a newbie, haven't caught a swarm, yet. Built my boxes and frames 1 1/2 years ago, I have been studying ever since .
@@robertofkennedy swarms are pretty easy to catch, iv managed too catch 2 now, 1 mine own and the other not so sure where that came from lol.. Yes indeed there is so much to learn and one of the reasons iv done my journey for every one to see real life beekeeping and how dedicated you must be and what can happen over the summer period.. Ghanks for watching .🐝👍
That was a manic one lol, I think I now need a new suit to help you as it’s all getting a bit more tricky 😂❤ xxxxx
love those hives !
@@KidGarden100 thanks
Drop in a frame with eggs and see if they draw out emergency queen cells, it they don't you have a virgin to get mated. Don't buy a queen until you have confirmed they are definitely queenless or they will kill her and bang goes your money. If they do draw out queen cells just tear them down then again after 8 days and add a mated queen then.
She's a beauty. All my queens are daughters and grandaughters of one of Laurence's Buckfasts😊
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 she certainly is, can’t wait to see her perform ..👌🐝
Thanks for that. Good luck with the new queen😊
put a test frame in before you spend your money .if you do have queen in thare they will kill your new one .
Dont worry about the confused foragers, they will eventually go back into the nearest hive. Yoy must have used up a few calories! That queenless colony looked very healthy, another option would have been to put a test frame (with some eggs) in, then check in 5 days or so, if the colony is queenless, you should find queeen cells. If just normal worker brood, the colony may still have a queen of sorts. Just a thought, i know there are never right or wrong ways 😊
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 yeah I was thinking about going down that road but it’s been a good 20/25 days and there is absolutely nothing in the way of showing there any signs of a queen so it’s a prime time to add a A1 buckfast queen..😀.. she is turning up any time now so excited to introduce her, ( the right way of course) 🤞fingers crossed 🤞 all goes well..👍
@@dcleal1 your not helping yourself by not telling us its been 20/25..days .you will get conflickting advice..also why you buying a queen if your combining them .or have i missed something .as only 2 hives in vid..which you combine..hive 1 red queen ..poly nuc green queen .other hive no queen which you combine with poly nuc..why are you buying a queen ..

Thats a really civilised colony of bees. With a bit of luck now the days are getting shorter the swarm instinct will diminish, its good that you have been giving them space, that can make all the difference. You must have good forage nearby. Ta for taking the time and effort to put the vids out, i know it takes a lot if effort, but its really appreciated.😊

Thanks Danny. Always good when you can take off a crop, there is always a demand for honest produced local honey (do treat your good lady with at least some of the proceeds) 😊. Likewise with any surplus nucs in the spring, there will always be someone local who will be interested anf its nice to pass on your knowledge to them, but make sure you recover your costs, as equipment is not cheap. The red thing is your uncapping fork. Our first year we decided to do the extraction in the shed only my son then cut his hand resulting in me making a mad dash with him to the medical centre for stitches and guess what, in our mad rush we forgot to close up the shed and id say every bee in the neighbourhood was in there robbing the honey 😂 Didn't make same mistake again

@@angelamitchell7531 thank you
You should have taken some frames out of the bigger hive to extract. The queen hasn't got enough room, I didn't recall seeing any eggs or brood on any of the frames. Extract half of the frames and return them, create a brood and a half for the queen. No reason why you couldn't remove the top super for extraction and replace it with a new super......
@@stewillo86 yes you iv been contemplating doing that, good advice thanks, when I next go in there I think that’s what I’ll do.👍
@@dcleal1Do it sooner rather than later because they'll swarm due to lack of space for the queen to lay. (Enjoy your first honey crop!) I've enjoyed your channel. You've been really honest and could have edited the mistakes etc out but have been really genuine with your journey. Well done. NOW GO AND GIVE THAT QUEEN SOME BLOODY SPACE! 😂
@@stewillo86 hahaha, thank you very much.. Yes I’m going to do it now.( today) .. thanks once again 👍
Don’t forget to sterilise them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In case you haven't seen it, there a few keepers who have a screen that is bent over on all sides so that all they have to do it put it over the queen and push it into the comb a little and mark her from there. Some lift it slightly and let her walk around as the mark dries so they don't clean it off her, some catch her in a clip and let her dry. Haven't done it but the safest, easiest and least risky option seems to be to just lift the mesh cage a bit. No moving her, chances of squishing or just altogether losing her. It takes something like 10 to 30 seconds for her to dry, lift the mesh off as she just Carrie's on her merry way.
@@kh7794 I should had open the cadge bottom down the same way I court her instead of leaving it on its side..🤦♂️

Once again Danny you have nailed your video diary - your journey is almost a mirror image of mine - I'm guessing you live near a hospital too - nice lot of honey in supers I haven't had that success yet but I think I'm 5 weeks behind you - Very satisfying when you manage to catch a queen and mark her.
@@nigeltimms3582 ahh thank you so much for watching, It’s is very up and down and this is why I done a journey for you and so meany to see how it actually is in reality.. Everything and everyone is different obviously but it’s how you go about things and the advice give.. I’m hoping a lot of different people like myself learn from this and take on board what can happen and what you can do about it.. yes right next door to a hospital lol.. Was so happy for how it turned out in the end with hive 1 and the queen cells I left as I never now where it was actually going to go as like I always say I’m new to this too… Lessons learnt for next year for sure and I will continue with this journey for as long as I keep bees so stay tuned.. Don’t forget there was the June gap so be patient it will come.. Now that hive 1 as swarmed I’m now down by half so it’s a long road to maybe getting a supper filled like that again but up side we are still only in the beginning on July.. Best of luck buddy keep me posted on how you’re getting on.👍
That was another great professional video, thanks for posting. Glad you got the new queen marked, she may take a while to start laying. My eyesught is not brill but do you th😮ink it might have been capped stores in the brood box 47.30 rather than capped brood? Perhaps the colony didnt actually swarm, but just a supersedure? Good idea with the nucs, they will overwinter well. Look forward to your updates😊
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 thank you so much glad you enjoyed it. Yes that possible could be capped stores and I was so lucky with the queen lol. Times like then is when I’m glad I recorded it so I could go back and follow her to make sure she went back into the hive

Hi Danny yet another great video diary - I tried that type of the queen bee catcher but didn't get on with it as it difficult to see what happening under the chamber, instead I got hold of push in ring type with a plastic mesh and it was really successful
