As a professional landscape and travel photographer I'm lucky that my passion is my full-time job. And with it comes adventure in a number of different countries.
My photography channel gives you a behind the scenes look at the trials and tribulations that I face as a working photographer. I'll also provide you with various tutorials on the business and technical side of things such as camera craft and Lightroom/ Photoshop tutorials.
So if you're interested in catching sight of eagle hunters in Mongolia, the cityscapes of Japan or just coming along as I explore and photograph the French countryside where I live then there's bound to be something for everyone.
Outside of CZcams I run landscape and travel photography tours and workshops in group form as well as one to ones in places such as the UK, France, Italy, Mongolia, Japan and Vietnam.

6 tips for traveling to Vietnam
6 tips for traveling to Vietnam is my latest video giving you some essentials for when traveling to and also arriving in this beautiful south-east Asian country.
Vietnam offers so much to travelers both in terms of the sheer diversity of things to do and see as well as travel photographers such as myself. With a population of close to 100 million people and also around 55 minority tribes, you're sure to be amazed by your travels within the country.
Having been here over a half-dozen times I've started to amass a good knowledge of what you need to do in order to make your trip here that much more easier and successful.
Outlined in the video is information about the Vietnam visa update in August 2023. The visa-on-arrival process is changing so listen in to the first tip. Other tips include the famous Vietnamese coffee and the Vietnamese language too if you’re going to be engaging with the locals.
If you have any other tips then be sure to leave them in the comments below.
My CZcams channel is dedicated to all things landscape and travel photography so if that’s your thing then I’d love to have you come along for the ride.

Visiting a School for the Disabled in Quang Nam Vietnam
zhlédnutí 129Před rokem
Back at the beginning of March 2023 I was invited to visit and photograph a school for the disabled in Quang Nam province, Vietnam. The experience was eye-opening and tugged a great deal at the heartstrings seeing these disadvantaged children. A local artist by the name of Quy Phong Bui invited me to the school. A man who dedicates his time to painting beautiful masks in Hoi An at his Timing Ma...

What's in my camera bag - late 2022 shows what I'm routinely carrying around when I got out capturing the world on my travels. We all like to know what each uses. The typical GAS syndrome can kick in with some photographers as they see inside the kit bag of another. Wanting the latest and greatest kit. The kit that I use is detailed here. Namaste and always welcome to nepal. have a fun trip in that mountain we always nice service and guide like you guest 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Excellent information and advice. Thank you.
Can I renew my 90 day visa twice by going to Cambodia so I can live for a year in Vietnam?
More infrastructure.....less of your face please....
Hi, may I know when exactly the date did you visit Dolomites? Was it early, mid or end of the October? Thank you
It’s normally mid to end of October
@@JulianElliottPhotography Thank you 🥰
Thank you. Informative and very helpful.
No problem. Glad to help.
One of the better Variable ND filter instructional videos on CZcams
Thank you. Your comments are really appreciated.
I shoot real estate and have been looking for something that will make my work flow much quicker. I have been using the Ulanzi F38 quick release plates on my tripod and gimbal, and that has been excellent and I would prefer to maintain these when upgrading. What tripod would you recommend? I've seen so many overpriced tripods, I'm just looking for something stout that's not terribly expensive.
Does US citizens get the free 45 day visa upon arrival?
I believe that you still have to apply for a visa.
What’s up with that guy flipping you off at 2:04?
🤣 no idea. I just remember filming the traffic and he did it.
50mm 1.4
Which three lenses are they?
24-70mm f2.8; 100-400 and 24mm tilt shift
@@JulianElliottPhotography thanks
I cant find any video why we need calls. Ive been to vietnam already but didnt need calls. Im genuinly curios as im heading back
It depends on your service provider. If you use Grab taxi and Grab food delivery then you’ll need them.
Hi .. I am doing research for ancient churches and I need capable camera for stills and good lens for taking photos for inside and also a good lens for icon and manuscripts what can you recommend for me??
I have a Vietnam visa that starts on 12/14. But my plane arrives 14 hours earlier. What problems can I expect?
If you arrive before the start date of your visa then you’ll have to get another one. So if your visa starts on 14 December but you arrive on 13 December then you’ll have problems.
Hey Julian, nice tutorial on the amazing world of Pano, stay safe Mike (New Vision PC)
Thanks for that Mike. Very appreciated
great thanks for the video. So with a UK passport you can get that on arrival so need to apply before & get 45days?
Hi Mark. I’m in Vietnam right now on a British passport. The old 15 day visa free is gone and is now 45 days visa free 😁
@@JulianElliottPhotography Great 😃 So no need to do an evisa before hand? We can rock up to immigration in the airport and get visa on arrival?
@@Markylenn87 indeed. I've had 3 e-visas this year but not for the current trip. Upon arrival I checked with the officer stamping me in and he confirmed 45 days 😄they didn't ask for my return ticket or accommodation details etc but I'd carry a copy just in case. If you also look on the UK here you'll see: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/vietnam/entry-requirements
@@JulianElliottPhotography Perfect thanks for that, saves a lot of hassle. I read some blogs which made it sound like a complicated process. I will be coming in from Laos, i assume should still be the same process and its just about which passport you have and not which country you are entering from?
I just watched you explaining your first method using live view then decided not to watch the rest of your video.. You are even worse than others on explaining how to choose the right NDG filter..Sorry.
Hi Roi. Then you should watch the rest because you’ll find I give the exact information you need to correctly choose a grad using spot metering.
What tripod do you recommend
I use Benro Mach 3 which is my height at 5ft 10.
Lovely gesture Julian for you to go to the children's school and take the time to give something back to the kids, some lovely shots. I particularly like the one of the group of kids' having lunch, you captured the moment there spot on, you don't need any words to see how much the kids mean to her. Chappau. ps, i was looking at your vids of the Dolomites for info, slightly different scenery from Snowdonia and Anglesey, on the list to visit.
Hi Owen. It is an eye opener going to see the children. You realize just how lucky you are. And the Dolomites are definitely different to Snowdonia. Just come back from another photo tour.
Sunwayfoto geared head plus - is the one I'd go for if going "geared"
Each to their own. If it works for you 👍 Benro serves me well.
Hi Julian. I've watched this video 3 times now, and it's beginning to sink in. Without doubt, the most comprehensive explanation I've found. Thank you.
Hey. No problem at all. Although the world is going mirrorless the information presented here is still useful if you want to truly understand how to choose ND grads.
What tripod and bracket is this? Thanks!
Benro Mach 3 tripod. I use SmallRig brackets.
Could you tell me the location of this amazing place, please?
Hi David. Which one?
lovely British accent and useful content also. Im using a compact Fuji, learn to manage it manually... there are a bunch of things to do with such a small camera like that :vv
Absolutely. A camera is a camera. People get very hung up on the brands. Sony is better than Canon and whatever else. It’s a tool and if you know how to use it then good images await.
knew a girl who loved it said nicest people
Gerard, she is absolutely right. The people In Vietnam are really nice. Always happy to help and there’s always a smile too.
If you have any other tips for traveling into and around Vietnam then drop them in the comments below.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm headed to UZ on business soon. is there any difficulty bringing photography equipment to the country?
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. I personally didn’t have any issues taking gear into the country. But be very cautious with drones.
who is this stranger
Trying to think about that myself!
I'm trying to figure out when to travel there because Summer is impossible currently. Does winter have snow constantly? Bc this is in January and the Surface it's clear i'm confused. I would love to see ir like this, no snow, but sometime in december-march
Hi there. It definitely doesn’t snow constantly in the winter. Your more likely to see snow on the high ground but lower down is a different story.
Hi there! Curious to know which lens did you use for the incense pictures? Will a 24-70 do from the elevated platform you guys were standing on?
Lovely scenery and photography
Thanks 🙏 I love Vietnam and have another vlog from here just not uploaded it yet.
Well explained. Thank you.
Thanks John. Seems like it was useful 👍
So how do you use a light meter?
For landscape photography? Watch the video again and it will help 👍
beautiful vid, Julian and major thanks for sharing this great knowledge.
Hi Vyvyon. Thanks for the comment. No problem at all. Hope the video was useful
Your video was very helpful. I just started to look at these and your information will help me make a good decision I believe.
Hi Marvin. Thanks for the comment. Absolutely no problem and hope it helps you.
Julian, do you do any color corrections with such interior images? Thank you for this very detailed video. -Michael
Hi Michael. I’ll usually go with the AWB from the camera as it’s pretty good. If it looks too strong of a cast then yes I’ll correct it.
Music is insane, We don’t need music
Well I was in a church. There wasn’t much I could do about it. I cannot really ask the organist to stop practicing.
Interesting vlog post. Can’t wait to get there. But wait, I am already there ! In Sant’Albino to be precise. It’s the middle of Winter and the weather has been in keeping with the season since I arrived, five days ago. Cloudy and foggy… except this early morning where I visited Val d’Orcia for the first time. A truly magical place, when the sun rays hit at the right spot.
hello, can we get the contact details of your guide?:)
Hi Janine. I’d have to ask if I can do that. Normally you’d be getting the guide through a local agent.
May I know the internet there is ok?will be going in end of January, thank.
I found it ok Thomas. Both on a Viettel SIM card and the internet in hotels/ home stays. I guess it depends on what you’re intending to do.
@@JulianElliottPhotography thank for the reply

Thanks for another insightful video, also good to see your picture of Salisbury Cathedral in The Times this morning (Sat 17.12.22)!
Hi Graham. Good to see you back! No problems on the video. It seems to be doing well unlike my stuff from Vietnam. Curiosity, what was the picture in relation to? Not being in the UK right now (I will be in January) what's the article?
@@JulianElliottPhotography Article is about a new "Salisbury Carol" that celebrates the life of the late Queen.
@@grahamclark2299 thanks for that. A Google search pulled it up. Taken one cold January morning if I remember correctly. The Canon 24mm TS-E Mark II for that one.
Very good video. Thank you.
Thanks Andrew. Glad you enjoyed it and hopefully found it useful.
Love it, cheers Julian!
And thank YOU @vallerret photography gloves for your support. It's very appreciated.
Good honest reviews of photography gear from a top travel photographer. Looking forward to your travels next year. Thank you, and Merry Christmas
Hey Charles. Long time, no see! Appreciate that feedback. Many travels coming up in 2023. England, Scotland, Vietnam, Tuscany and Uzbekistan are so far confirmed. But I'm sure that others will be added in :)
I since bought the Kase Wolverine Magnetic Circular Filters and, it's so simple to attach them on the front of the lens using the magnetic adapter rings. And there is no colour cast on the filters so, I'm very pleased with my purchase. 🙂
Absolutely agree Simon. Very easy to use and light too. I haven’t noticed a colour cast either.
Interesting video. I need gloves, I will look into yours. The weigh of this camera bag though… wow 😮
Let me know if you decide to go for them as I have a link you can use. They are excellent though.
@@JulianElliottPhotography I will Julian. At the moment I am in an area with moderate climate, but whenever I go to the mountain, I will make sure I get back to you for those gloves
marmalade sandwiches?
🤣🤣🤣 it would get a bit sticky in there!
Fabulous region. I am looking forward to go walking there some day. Some dope imagery. What you are not saying, after finally staying in the region, is how steep these paths leading to villages actually are. Got to be fit.
You'll love it William. It's beautiful down there. So much to do in the area.
