The damn fact that they both can identify what cultural name refers to which piece just off one move!
i guess i don't understand chess. why can't bull take the bishop with his king on the last move? i don't see a piece that can stop that or take the king the next turn
oh god nvm i just realized the knight could take it
Took me a while to understand the brilliance of Pe5. It blocks the black queen from protecting the pawn at g7, forcing the knight to take the white queen at f6 and leave the black king unguarded.
I hope we see this type of camaraderie in Veilguard! 😁
Don't even like chess and still love this banter today 😂
Legendary
Great game. 👍
I like the subtle aspect that Bull actually starts switching to non-Qunari terms for the most part as the game goes on. Especially since this only occurs if he becomes a Tal-Vashoth, shows him leaving behind the Qun, in a small way.
Solas' playstyle really shows why he messes up with his plans constantly.
what makes this even better foreshadowing is that the da4 protagonist is apparently gonna be called “rook”
Screw Sera.
"What are you doing Solas?" When a worthy opponent starts making incomprehensible moves, you should be afraid. Very afraid.
Any chess players reading this able to verify that this is a valid Chess strategy?
okay, recently started playing the game again and after watching this something jumped out at me. people compare Solas sacrificing the queen to symbolizing Mythal's death (thou i doubt that was intentional in any way. unless their refiring to the end of DAI where Solas seems to kill Flemeth) and the mage trapping the king to be Solas, but the mage isn't alone. the knight is also trapping the king. in the game you see statues of Fen'harel in 2 temples. the temple of Mythal AND the temple of Dirthamen! and in the temple, you find Dirthamen's shield. implying that he was a warrior, or a knight. in this match the mage and the knight take down the king together. this could mean absolutely nothing, but.........i now have questions. LOL at least it's fun to think about!
Some moron: oRiginZ is beZt becUZ padding that doesn't matter and little elz! Pfft, Ok hun.
Origin is the best mechanically, but the lore, story and dialogue vastly improved across the games. If Dreadwolf would have that top-down tactical perspective and mechanics + the lore and the story of Inquisition, it would be a contender for one of the best CRPGs.
Everyone’s talking about how devious solas is, and that’s certainly true but remember this interaction only occurs if Bull rejects the qun, furthermore at the end solas implies this whole exercise was to show bull that just because he lost the qun doesn’t mean he will lose his mind. Solas will sacrifice everything for victory, but he also cares about those around him who he deems worthy….something to consider
King me lmao
I'm not sure why I was thinking of this, oh, almost ten years after it was released. Thanks much for keeping it alive!
This entire thing is so sexy. Nerd porn. Just two smart guys playing mental chess.
…All brilliant points in the comments while I’m just wondering if someone made a Qun chessboard, a human one in their respective worlds. So, is there is elven? Would the dwarven one just be their paragons? Or personal to each family because ancestry and all
If I were to guess what a dwarven board would it would be this King - King Queen - Paragon Bishop - Shaper Knight - Berserker Rook - Golem Pawn - Pawn
King me
Ok wait, have I been playing different rules, because the king could've taken the bishop at the end there
No he couldn't, the bishop is protected by the knight.
"Got my whole army bearing down on your king." Ah yes, your Queen and Bishop, two of your seven main pieces, totally an "army".
this is the sexiest thing ive ever seen
This was (and still is) very entertaining to watch and listen to.
Omg, ive been using this since today every time i play as white, and nobody has been able to stop me. This move is soo legit.
Im using this move in s game
I'm quite curious what would happen if Solas tried it with Vivienne because she was trying to figure out just who he is exactly with little knowledge beforehand, plus she is competent at the Orlaisian Game as well.
Bull's sudden realization is hilarious
Wait is this actually in game or did the voice actors do this for fun
It happens in game as random party banter, stretched over six such dialogues while travelling in the world if they're both in the active party.
I felt them both die a little inside when Sera said "King me!"
Proof that Sera plays checkers while others play chess.
I don’t understand chess but hey as long as Solas won, I don’t mind. No offence to Iron Bull.
you legend
Weirdly they changed the game ever so slightly from the real game. In the original, on move 18 Kieseritzky (Bull) played Bxg1, which Wikipedia describes as “the move leading to Black’s defeat.” Here, Bull plays Qxa1+, which the same Wikipedia article identifies as a better move. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortal_Game
It's the funniest thing...I played this match on a move calculator and it made one completely different move to make a COMPLETELY different game. Mainly the computer played a more conservative game. If Iron Bull had played more conservatively and not been so aggressive, he might've had a chance.
Wrong game Sera.
Iron Bull before losing: I have the highground, Fadewalker!
2:50 Right here is when Solas won the game. g1 was bait. By taking the Rook, Bull had no pieces in a position to get his King out of trouble, while only having one space to retreat to after the Knight took g7. Yes I know this is the Immortal Game, still, it's fun to see it somewhere I NEVER expected it to appear in.
Damn explains why Qunari spies tripped up on Solas spies.
As a chess afficionado, when i saw the move i was like OH NO! great match tbh!
Nice game: Mage And you: Tal Vashoth
Why was this a turn on, I don't even romance either of them
Solas Di Caprio has your curiosity
This is one of the most clever things I've ever seen in a videogame. 1. It's well written banter in its own right. 2. It is great characterisation: Bull revels in the fight and measures victory in enemy kills. Solas hides his intent and is focused on the endgame. 3. It is world-building: Their names for the pieces also reveal differences in their respective cultures. 4. It is foreshadowing: Solas manipulating event and people like pawns. Sacrificing pieces, including his Queen (Flemeth/Mythal), to secure victory 5. If you really want to read into it, you could view the Pawn as The Inquisitor: A piece only powerful for being in the right place at the right time to prevent Corypheus (Black's Queen) from stopping the checkmate.
Or you could see the Inquisitor as the Queen. A powerful piece Bull wants to protect, and that Solas tosses away to win.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension ooo I like that
quick pin this before it gets buried in the comments
Obviously they're smart and it's foreshadowing but. That game was more fascinating than all sports combined I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 💙
THANK U
My favorite part is that if this is a representation of the characters thought process than Sera not giving a flying fuck about the rules fits perfectly. What would Solas and Iron Bull do when Sera lights the battlefield on fire in a fight she had no part in?
Ironbull was wrong tho he said whole army but it's just the Arishok moving the rest are just standing still.
That is so foreshadowing to Solas' Plot but I really love their strategies. Even tho Solas' one is based on much sacrifices but there's much improvement space. So I guess based on his character, we do can convince him to change things I hope Dragon Age 4 will give us the possibility to change his mind without killing him
Solas is a great character. I would openly favorite him if it's not for those cringey solavellans
