    I don’t think black clock beetles would be good with a centipede because I once had them together and saw the beetles playing tug of war with a centipede

    I think some leaf litter should be added. It gives the critter some food other than the live plants and it would look nicer and fill up space.

      I haven’t been able to document enough click beetles so far, but I will look out for them in the near future. I will soon have videos on other beetle species, such as the Black Clock Beetle, Vine Weevil, Rove Beetle and hopefully the Lesser Stag Beetle if I am able to find more of them.

    what do you use as substrate?

    • @MediocreTerrariums
      @MediocreTerrariums Před 3 měsíci

      I typically just gather soil from outside near where I’ve sourced the plants. It’s easier than buying substrates and it contains loads of springtails, aphids, etc.

    Nice setup but the golden gouramis are going to outgrow the tank very quickly. The smaller plant is a type of crypt but not sure which species, the stemmed plant should be bacopa if im not mistaken. Gouramis love very still moving water so I would recommend switching to a sponge filter if possible. Your high ph is probably from the algae blooms which probably means too much light which is an easy fix. Either increase the plant load in the tank or have the light on a few hours less every day. Goodluck on your aquatic adventure my friend

    I just stumbled upon you and clicked on the video. I really enjoy the style you do it in but I have some tips for you: 1. Golden gouramis can get quite big reaching around 14 cm so three of them will fill more than half of your tanks length 2. Gourami are a semi aggresive species, which means they can establish territory and will threaten the others away when they enter the territory. Since there are four gouramis aggression is very likely but in case you have one male and the rest are female aggression isnt guaranteed. 3. To prevent aggression you should probably plant more plants, place wood/rocks or place (preferably) silk plants to break sightlines and create more possible territories (silk plants are safer for the fish) 4. Black neon tetras prefer to be in the biggest school as possible but since your tank is in fact not a lake nor a river a minimum of 5 is recommended What would I do? I would bring the golden gouramis back to the store or sell/gift them to someone else, keep the dwarf gourami, make the black neon tetra count around 7-10 and buy some more plants like cryptocoryne, lilaeopsis, ludwigia, bacopa (which I think is the plant you did not know) and maybe some moss. You could even try to throw some shrimp in there, depending on the personality of your dwarf gourami. Thank you for reading this I hope you learned something and I shall follow you along you journey. Good luck with your feature tanks/ changes!

    Here's a tip for you. set up a small water change tank with some peat in a filter and let it cycle for when you do your water changes. It's a cheap way to lower the ph. without chems.

  • @scaperline
    @scaperline Před 8 měsíci

    you most likely have bad water conditions for the fish you are keeping, and the tank is definately on the smaller size for that many fish..

  • @otallono
    @otallono Před 8 měsíci

    heh if people don't like to see dead fish they also should not go to a pet store, and if there isn't that means they are good at removing them before customers can see them. But when you buy the fish that seem healthy, there is always a chance they'll die within a day because of the amount of stress they were put through in shipping and then again when you bring them home. Stress is the biggest killer in all animals including us but that is accelerated in fish. And then everyone assumes it's the water. But anyway I read that you should ask when the fish were brought in, you don't want to buy fish that just recently went through the shipping process. If you set up a quarantine tank and put new fish in there, return the dead ones when that happens, it's not as heart breaking as losing them in your main tank when you expected them to stay alive. Also prevents disease from spreading. I have not been able to obtain healthy corydoras myself... all my other fish are healthy but every time I get cories they die. it has a lot to do with where they're sourced I think. Substrate does not have to be vacuumed as long as it's not disturbed, just change the water. If you're having that much ditritus there you're feeding way too much. Fish do not need to eat constantly. They don't need to eat daily. And that tank is very small so feed a lot less, the smaller the tank the more you have to change the water unless it's packed with plants. Overfeeding causes sickness and ammonia buildup. Fish in the wild don't always get to eat, think of it that way. They will beg for food but does not mean you should always feed. Fish are "hungry" 24/7.

      Thanks for the advice, The problem with quarantining any fish is that the tank used to be a quarantine tank for a larger tank my parents had, which has now been thrown out. I can’t buy another tank at the minute but I’ll stop buying anything new for that tank and start feeding the current fish less.

  • @sunlounger29
    @sunlounger29 Před 8 měsíci

    Probably bad water conditions... too many fish in a tank that's way too small lets ammonia build up very quickly! That combined with bad husbandry is the most plausible reason why your fish die. Invest in a bigger tank, with lots of plants and you have a much more stable environment.

      @MediocreTerrariums Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks for the advice, I’ll do some frequent water changes until I can get a larger tank to place some of the fish in.

    • @sunlounger29
      @sunlounger29 Před 8 měsíci

      @@MediocreTerrariums Sounds like a good plan! Also when your tank has more bottom surface with a finer gravel or sand substrate the corydoras will feel so much better!

  • @edz1228
    @edz1228 Před 8 měsíci

    Pretty sure its your water quality and parameters are off, also tank is too small for that many fish. Too much waste and low effort cleaning lead to this. At least water change 30%-40% twice a week. Some fish prefer high ph and some prefer lower ph. Try to ask the fish store about your water parameters. Pack some over and get them to help you check.

    • @MediocreTerrariums
      @MediocreTerrariums Před 8 měsíci

      To be honest I’m not exactly sure, they seem to be dying of old age as platyfish apparently only live 2-3 years, and I have no idea how old they were when I first got them.
