At least Murosky does it live with his face; why do you use a cartoon avatar character to talk? Murosky seems fine but I don't watch all his content. Geez he sure got you going. BTW in the Holy Bible if you read in the Old Testament it does outlaw homosexuality; sure Jesus talks about the Greatest Commandment. Read Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, and think about it.

I'm a KDE "fan", but I want to try get GNOME an honest try for at least a month. Especially since I have friends and family that could potentially click with GNOME, I want to be able to help them navigate. There are some behaviors that I will prefer from KDE that could be solved through extensions, but I'd prefer to stick as close to vanilla GNOME as much as possible in the name of stability. Great video!

i would recommend debian it's been out since 1993 and it's pretty chill and doesn't have any telemetry or worse and there's an easy installer or if you want customizability, there's a pretty neat (more complicated) installer and you can install it without the GUI or with the GUI. and it's a base for a lot of distros including ubuntu

Even though I love Linux, I keep a second PC with Windows 10 (I'll NEVER upgrade it to 11) just to play a few old games I love. There is no need to spend days coming up with new swear words to try to get them to run perfectly in Linux.

The worst I had previously seen of him was not being charitable to Linus Sebastian's Pop OS glitch that nuked his DE because of course most people aren't going to want to sit and read a giant blob of text that flashes in an instant like that. I also used to think the OpenSUSE team was bigoted but now that I have the added context of them just wanting to get rid of people who complain rather than doing work, it makes more sense. They were probably being utilitarian, not partisan. They're also free to celebrate whatever holiday they like. Pride is not inherently political but it has been hyper-politicized across the board. I'm also an LDS nonpartisan and can comfortably say Murosky is a poor representation of Christianity and Linux.

This aged like milk before it was released. It turned into yogurt, which is still bad for the lactose intolerant. People have run recall on Windows + Arm computers. It can be tested. Heck! You know how to spin up a VM. You can spin up an ARM VM and try it out. They found out it stores OCR data as unencrypted plain text. They found out it doesn't actually require a specialized NPU. It has already been hacked and a tool was developed to extract the data collected by recall. This is a terrible feature.

If you wanna talk politics. Don't ever mention right or left. Talk Keynes economics vs modern neoclassical economics. That's politics worth discussing. If you wanna talk religion. Joshua 10 - 12. Read just number 10 and you understand why people who read the bible become atheists. When it comes to Linux. I'm lost. Pick the right distros-distros are bull. Learn to use Linux and coding-if you don't know how to use Linux or coding then don't use Linux. I've seen over a dozen videos and I keep seeing a Top Best Something About Linux. And the next recommended video is Why This Something About Linux Is Wrong. If Linux was a gender question, then I would start to question if I'm even breathing right. Ok so I want to learn Arch to use Arch. Where do I begin? And don't say the documentation cause "a buffer is a command to send the buffer bytes to ASCII pointers". I keep looking up some terminology or word in programming and I end up with answers like this that just begs more questions. And don't even bother with Microsoft's example lines of code. It's a mess just to find what the article is supposed to be about. I just want to know how to convert a float into a byte array for a UDP client. I don't need to know the meaning of life written in multiple algorithms, just get to the point!

Not everyone's reasons for using a PC are the same. Some people want the most cutting-edge software and are willing to bug fix. Some people need software to run reliably and consistently over time (control systems, specific out of support software, etc.), and some people want a balance somewhere in between. Every use case is different.

In fact, this made me think, why can't the OS have telemetry but the rest of the programs can? Why do they only activate this when you are using the app? I don't know, the doubt remains I saw your video and it made me think, thank you.

I used vanilla Gnome (via Fedora Silverblue) without any extension for about half a year straight (about from September to March 2024) on my main machine (so, I used it daily for multiple hours). The only thing I like about Gnome as a DE, was the way virtual desktops are handled. And well, after half a year of trying to become used to the way Gnome wants to be used, I quit. It's not for me. And Gnome applications. Quite frankly, they were just a bad experience to a point that after 3 months I installed KDE's. Before I did this, I was like "Doesn't seem too nice, but Let's give it a try.". Now I hate Gnome's HIG on a fundamental level. They look nice, don't get me wrong, but that's it. You hope that either the application doesn't have a lot of features, or that it has really well thought out and intuitive shortcuts (which also only works up to a certain amount of features). More features? Well, there's a reason why big applications like GIMP (ok, GIMP has a lot of reason for that besides the amount of features, like a lack of maintainers) or Evolution don't. Now to chime in on some stuff of your video: Maximizing: Sometimes you want to maximize via mouse, so you need to be able to at least click on the header bar. And well, some application stuffed it so full, that there isn't any area left. Minimizing: Well, as soon as you want to have a new VD in between your right most VD without "hidden" stuff and your VD with your "hidden" stuff, you either have to rethrow the stuff somewhere else, or rearrange your VDs, neither are nice. That happened to me quite a lot. Alt + ~: So, either this is a shortcut which changes depending on your keyboard layout, or this was chosen without ever looking at non-English keyboard layouts. On a lot of keyboard layouts, you already need a modifier key to type a ~. For example on the German keyboard layout, it's AltGr + +. This means that with a lot of keyboard layouts you straight up can't use this shortcut, because the key combinations are either already taken by characters on your keyboard, or invalid (like Alt + AltGr + +). 15:50 Ehm, no, you have choices even with NVidia, including on Wayland.

    • @Trafotin

SteamOS needs a Steam account because that is their DRM for games that one purchases in the library. It is meant for gaming, that too the titles one owns in the Steam library. It is not meant to be used as a standalone desktop operating system, even if there is a desktop mode but only for some troubleshooting which is not possible with gamescope. OS need not have to be designed as one size-fitting all. They can have specific purpose - that way they can optimize and run that purpose more efficiently.

Because it's like this everytime, but their fairytales are never becoming a reality. "Windows 8 is crap with Metro, time for Linux!" "Windows 10 is crap with more telemetry, time for Linux!" "Windows 11 now gets something like Recall, time for Linux!" And crap happens.

And Apple pulled the same thing with Sequoia and iOS 17. Yet here we are and nobody gives them crap for it.

All I'm going to say bravo GigaChad Trafotin as for Windows Recall its Sucks even more especially in the security department screw "AI enhancing features' when these Arm Laptops are Locked Down And doesn't let Disable Secure Boot at all for the sake of " Linux/ETC is bad"

your points about debian are so fucking stupid. The whole point is stability why would you complain about it? most people just wanna watch youtube and play their games and not have to worry about rescuing their borked system if they happen to make one little mistake. I dont think anyone other than you cares if their libre office matches the desktop environment or not.... Saying that average desktop users dont need a stable system is total crap. giving up stability for your system that has countless programs customizations and very valuable data is dumb advice. You claim security updates should be more important than stability. yeah maybe if you are hacking people or using darknet markets or some shit. for people just storing media using CZcams and playing games you should not be worried about some random person trying to access your system. the only people who care about having the latest updates of fucking libre office or whatever are people who dont use their pc for anything other than having linux installed. of course stability wouldnt matter to you cause you have nothing to lose! you say its hypocritical to need to use ppas to get latest updates. no its hypocritical to use debian and expect it to be arch.

Stability fails in the model of desktop Linux hard. There are people who need critical features like better MS Office support in LibreOffice or newer features in Audacity, Inkscape, or KDE Plasma. Instead, they are forced to wait literal years and basically have to overlay Flatpaks, Snaps, or third party packages to fill the void. Not every rolling release is the like Arch; Arch is painful in the ways you describe because it's DIY. Fedora and SUSE Tumbleweed are better solutions because much more thought and curation is done to make a better experience, while still keeping everything up to date. And yes, Debian maintainers need to backport and hack updates onto old, potentially unsupported versions of software. I trust that would be done in server software like nginx, apache, caddy, etc, but not for things like KeePassXC, because the maintainer went rogue. Debian is great for servers, really bad for a desktop. I used it for 3 years, I should know.

they collect so much telemetry yet don't know we hate their new ideas
