    Great.Thanks so much for all of your post... I have a 14ft dingley and I'm now ready to make the leap into purchasing a larger boat.. All your videos are exactly the boats that I've been looking at.. I need your opinion as to which boat you like the best..????... Catalina 22,macgregor 26,mcgregor19 or the Hunter 19...( Your opinion will play heavily on my purchase)

    Nice job Greg but - You left out the use of your mini shrouds (which you have attached to your stanchions) - and to the ??? mainsail halyard? I usually attach my mini shrouds to the spinnaker ring on the mast. The mini shrouds are critical to prevent the mast from moving port and starboard as the mast rises. When the mast is below 45° it is VERY unstable laterally otherwise - because the main shrouds are slack.

    Hey I have one of these boats it's in pretty rough shape mainly the riggings all the wires the main sheet, all the pullies. Do you know where would be a good start to find what the equipment is that I need. Like websites, owners manual, etc. The trailer is in very rough shape so taking it somewhere is out of question until that gets fixed or repaired

    I did see these in sailing magazine ads in the UK and did consider one, but ended up with a British Hunter 26 which was ideal for channel crossing to France or the channel islands. The hunter was not great in light winds, but for a small yacht was very safe in extremes.

    Great video. We're looking at purchasing our first sailboat (Macgregor). It has a swing keel. Stupid question but trying to figure out how those actually work. Do you have any video on that by chance? Any type of checklist or things we should look for or inspect on it? Sails and rigging look to be in good shape. Thanks.

  • @tdzeta
    @tdzeta Před 2 lety

    Anyone who tries to reproduce raise the mast. The author of this video, for some reason, said absolutely nothing about the fact that he is using temporary shrouds in order to prevent the mast from falling to the sides. Note that they are taut during lifting and keep the mast in a vertical plane. Do not raise a mast without those temporary (raising) shrouds!!! It is extremely dangerous!!!

    • @gregripko
      @gregripko Před 2 lety

      V6 shouldn’t be an issue. Think you could tow up to 5,000lbs. Just make sure trailer has working brakes for emergency stops….. drum or disc work fine.

      That's the problem with all these videos, they don't show a close up or diagram how the gin pole attaches which next to the additional stays is the most important part. Other than that, great video and helpful.

    Greg Great videos on the 19-2. Have had one for a few years. But a problem. My Flexible Furler binds as I furl the sail. Second problem is that the top of the furler get entangled with the jib Hayward. I tried to pull it tight vertically so it ran close to the mast but it still tangles. Any ideas. How do you determine how long the baby stays need to be? I have a boat recently purchased, and have never seem the mast up.

    • @gregripko
      @gregripko Před 3 lety

      The baby stays came preset…. No adjustment needed as they used pelican hooks to tighten

    • @tiberiu_nicolae
      @tiberiu_nicolae Před 3 lety

      I believe they must be attached on either side of the mast pivot point. The length would depend on how far apart they start and how high up the mast they attach to. If they are not on either side of the mast pivot point (aft/fore or up/down) they will either get tighter or looser as the mast rises.
