The British & Irish Lions
Ireland
Registrace 22. 07. 2015
The British & Irish Lions is a touring team consisting of the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Since 1888, it is the experience of touring that has defined the essence of the team. We tour once every four years with the next tour heading to Australia in 2025.
On the field, the Lions are the very best players the Home Unions can offer, a team of rival players joined together to commit to a single purpose. Off the field, the 'Team Behind The Team' are tasked with ensuring the Lions continues to thrive both during and between tours.

The Battle of Ballymore: Australia vs Lions, 1989 Second Test Highlights
The second Test between the Lions and the Wallabies on July 8, 1989, remains one of the most controversial in more than 120 years of touring.
The Battle of Ballymore, as it was aptly christened by the Australian press, is widely regarded as one of the most bruising encounters in the game's history.
Just one week earlier, the Lions were defeated 30-12 by a rampant Wallabies side. The Lions were second-best in almost every department, particularly up front.
Outplayed and outmuscled, the Lions left Sydney licking their wounds as Australia scored four tries to none in a one-sided contest.
Back-to-back defeats would have crushed the tourists’ hopes of a Series win, but Finlay Calder’s Lions arrived in Brisbane determined to make a statement, and they did just that.

Campese - such a liability.
Is it just me or is Miles Harrison an inept commentator who clearly knows nothing about the game?
Aaah.... Adam Jones is it? Must still be having nightmares of Bakkies Botha. 😂😂😂
Who won the game.
Sonny, league player... Red card, but maybe today yellow (24), depending what sport. Sonny Bill Williams plays Rugby Union, Rugby League and is also a profesionnal boxer. He's rough, but it's not worth a red ! 39:07
Where's the volume for the haka?? 9:52
Great captain
Paul was marvellous. A great British and Irish lion. He got it.
Epic
Mike Teague was some player.
Tony O'Reilly. All these years later still has record for most test tries scored for the Lions.
This wasn’t one those tests that England played against a touring side as the last game of a tour and the touring side had just played twice a week for a month, exhausted, injured, thinking only about going home. They never had. the courage to ever play the Kiwi side first up. The English have always tried to load matters to their advantage, rather play the rules than the game. The Welsh were the ones that played the game most like the colonials, with flair and daring, the game being the prize not the winning. The Scots and Irish played a hard more dour but honest version of the game than the Welsh. The English played the least impressive version of the game where the winning was more paramount than the game. Sadly Englands influence on/in the professional era has turned all home nations rugby into a colossal bore. If I watch rugby at all. these days it is League. Even the colonials versions have become a bore.
I'm just here to remind everyone that this was the 3rd test in the series and the boks already won the previous 2. I see lions fans really hold on to this win as if it wasn't a dead rubber against a fringe team.
Old Mike Teague was a brut!
Always good to see that arrogant 🛎️ 🔚 Campese making a cock up and on the losing side.
The ref must be a kiwi
The last proper lions tour before it got all too serious
Mike Teague outstanding. Gloucester Granite
Didn't know Angel Batista was now an English copper.
and the first to shake hands Jones and Farr-Jones
I was lucky enough to be in the corner where Sean O'Brien scored, a truly unforgettable moment!
*It's a game that they're treating like their lives depended on it. If this were a battle situation - as in life and death - I'd take this more seriously. I understand they need motivation to win the game, but this was just over-the-top. It bordered on disturbing. Rugby Union is a game you play in the park with some friends without the need to 'destroy' your opponent. Nobody dies. But there was a load of money floating around, that's the certainty of professionalism*
Young was a very naughty boy....
Every commentator ever: “it’s an all-in brawl, that was totally unnecessary!” Every spectator ever: “get in there! ave it!”
Felt sorry for Rob Norster but the Lions felt they needed Dooleys bulk and power and they were right. That was a good comeback considering the 1st Test which was a disaster.
Australia had no one to match Wade a true legend
was there ever a more dull stand off than andrew
Need to go back to the old scrums, and you’ll get 20% more ball in playtime! Proper unsanitised rugby!
I love rugby so much
Mike Teague…
@13:34 it's not every day you see someone take such a big bite of a drink🤣 is he just thinking it's one of those squeeze sports bottles?
Umm what happened the first test??? 😅😅
What?? The Beast absolutely beasted him and basically destroyed his career and reputation as a strong scrummaging prop. Also he comes across as a bit of a knob in the Lions DVD's.
And now refs all say that if you attempt an intercept with one hand, that's a deliberate knock on...
So the bench at 1:52. As I see it: Dods, Robinson, Hall, Chilcott Armstrong, White, Chalmer, Smith, Norster, Griffiths Lenihan, Clement, Mullin Unknown, McGeechan, Uttley, Rowlands. I might be wrong about Norster. Judging by the level of his head and the makeup of the rest of the reserves, that might be a back next to Steve Smith, so I guess John Devereaux? Assuming I'm right, I guess that shot is missing John Jeffrey and John Devereaux/Bob Norster. Chris Oti and Paul Dean would have already gone home. Thoughts?
I think the 1989 series was the first time the Lions and Wallabies played a 3 match series. In the past it was 2 matches then the Lions went over to NZ. The 2nd test was brutal stuff. The Lions deserved to win the series.
Jonathan Davies had all the necessary skills that made him a great centre. It looks like he’s just cruising along to make the tackle.
Nz is the best Easy meter
I'd forgotten just how awesome Mike Teague was in this test. Part of a fearsome pack: Sole, Moore, Young, Dooley, Ackford, Teague, Calder & Richards. What a pack.
3:30 3:31 When rugby was real and not today's boring cream puff serving. I miss the days when you could slip a sly uppercut on the half😮
Jesus, you'd go through a block wall fir Jim Telfer
It was great to hear banter from the crowd without PC intervening
Youre a tool.
Magnificent game. Shame about the click bait title. But, yes, it got me to rewatch the full video. Brian moore as scrum half. Magic!
Must have been infuriating for the backs playing outside Rob Andrew. Imagine having the pace and talent of Guscott, Evans and Rory Underwood outside you and kicking high quality ball like that away. Dreadful.
England's battleplan for the ages...if only we just ran it to an attacking line
Wasn't at the Newlands test but I was there for the loss to Northern Transvaal at Loftus, the series clincher at Kings Park in Durban (and met many of the lads - including Matt afterwards) and the final test at Ellis Park, Jo'burg (where I was working at the time). Great times for a Brit in SA - though the Saffa's tried to claim a (moral) victory because of the final test result...
Kids you're looking at a true Rugby Legend, huge respect from a 🏴 fan
Watching this brings back a lot of memories, it also made me think how much of what went on then would now be penalised, full credit to the commentator for his remarks for the Campese mess up, Mickey Mouse rugby!! Thank you for uploading.
Brilliant from Guscott but the forwards laid the foundation for that crucial win…..especially Mike Teague….what a player. Rob Jones did pretty well in the fight too!
Many years on when i still need a inner spritual push this is my go to. Proud Irishman love to all x
How good was Jonathan Davies in this?
Wonder who won the series 😂
