The Stratobowl Trail (Rapid City, SD) Great Historic Hike Near Rapid City
When my husband and I did this trail several years ago, we were warned about rattlers by other hikers. Didn't get as far as you did as the the trail got so over grown we were leery about not being able to see the rattlers.😳
I’m glad it was just a bull snake I saw!
Might have been a Marmot.
Yes! That looks to be about the right size and color!
Do you carry anything specific to protect against any creatures like a mountain lion?
I have some tricks up my sleeve. 😉
I do admire your determination. I too forget things> I have found it helpful to make a master list of everything I need for my trips. When I discover I forgot something I add it to the master list for future trips. It is an on going process but it has helped me travel for comfortable.
That’s a great idea!
15:20 me and my dog little pockets were attaked by a mountain lion. It had little pockets luckily i threw a rock and hit it. I got Little pockets and we got out. Be careful it can happen to you also
I’m glad you were able to get your dog and get away! That had to be so scary!
OY! You take too many chances!! Make a list of hiking needs....keep bug spray in backpack, get a charger. I use AllTrails and it lets me know when I get off the trail and how to get back on it, if I've downloaded it beforehand. Stay safe.
Wow that is some great terrain! Never really seen South Dakota. Thank ya for the upload! 30:46 Looked really cool on camera with the flashlight! 😍😍🤩🤩
thank you for watching!
@@trailaddictSD Any time my friend! Having fun learning about youtube lol
Well if this isn’t the ULTIMATE answer to the Man vs Bear question, I don’t know what is. Hope that gets its own little segment! Way to represent us Ken!
POV: Worried about creek crossings!! Films creek crossing Crosses back to pick up camera Crosses creek again😂😂😂
So true! I don’t think a bear would have let me use his battery charger. They can be such jerks! 😉
@@trailaddictSD hahahaha
😂 I picked an easier one to film! I figured it was good practice anyways.
@@trailaddictSD The end with the flashlight lighting up the trail looked really cool!! Just a thought, but a can of bear spray might be a good investment. Would work great against mountain lions, aggressive dogs, etc..., you'd probably never need it, but I look at it like a concealed carry. Would rather have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it!
I went and got the TASD at your office the other day. Wanted to say HI but you weren't there. Perhaps that's when you did this hike. Did you notice the trail across from Mt Coolidge on top of Heddy Draw, on the right side of it? Have hiked it a couple of times, but not down into the draw. LOL didn't want to have to climb back up it.🥴
I’m sorry I missed you! I have not done that trail yet. I will have to check it out!
I picked up your trail guide at the Visitor Center in Hill City. Very impressive. Thanks.
Awesome! Glad you like it!
nice
Thanks
Yup Manitou is no joke
It was a challenge for sure!
Great video...
Thank you!
Most welcome....I am a local....and it is always good to see out of towners.
I am really impressed with your youtube channel and your outstanding video. I appreciate your video content here, sorry I don't usually write in comments section but I think you deserve this complement.. Thanks and stay safe 🌺🌸🌼🌹🌷🌻
Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate you watching!
How long did it take you?
About 53 minutes from parking lot to the top of incline and a total of 2 hours 11 minutes from parking lot to parking lot.
Why you always filming your face . No one interested in you.
This is nuts. I wonder if pepper spray would have at least made it stop following you. Horrible walking six miles having to constantly look behind you every 3 seconds! Definitely a cardio workout day.
For sure!
heard about this beautiful place from a song “the black hills of dakota” by doris day. some day i will visit the black hills.
I may be biased, but it’s an amazing place!
Lovely presentation, your storytelling is truly captivating!
Thank you for watching!
I will get mine next week in Hill City THANKS
Awesome!
looks beautiful but i like the western states better. travel through 13 western states for 6 months and i felt like the natural beauty god created had rejuvenated my soul.
This is one area of South Dakota, check out my other videos for trails in the Black Hills, you might find that area more to your liking! Thanks for watching!
Hike and carry, be safe!
I'm working on that!
It's so fun to watch the Prairie Dogs. ❤
They are cute!
We love hiking in the Badlands! We only live 2 hours away, so try to get there when we can. We haven't done the Castle Trail yet. That will be next on our list. Thanks for taking us with you! ❤
Thank you for watching!
Oooh. We love hiking the Prairie Trail. Have done that one twice now. Once in summer and once in winter. Thanks for sharing! ❤ The Pronghorn, Burros, and Bison are always fun to see. Love Custer State Park! 😊
I love running into animals on the trails...as long as they don't get too close!
You should get a wide rim straw hat with string tied under your chin (so the wind won’t blow it off). I always wear a wide rim straw hat when I go out under the sun for a prolonged time. It keeps your head cool & not so stuffy & sweaty. It also prevents sunburn on your face & protects your skin.
I might have to give that a try. Thank you for the suggestion!
South Dakota has way more to offer then the badlsnds ,blackhills is where you wanna be to hsve the most fun
So true! Check out my other videos for hikes in and around the Black Hills!
Your so sexy i live in southdakota great living if u like winter 8 months of the year ❤
You didn't show us any of the shady spots! 🤣
There was only one! 😂
The hotel
What a trex, glad you took enough water. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia.
Thank you! I'm not acclimated for the heat, yet. We just had snow a few days ago, so still in "winter mode", I guess!
Wonderful. I've been trying to arrange some time in this area to do some night sky photography. Seems the stars have not been aligning for moon phase and cloud cover.
I bet that would be a great area for that! Good luck!
I’m really liking your new editor!!!!
He’s doing a great job!
I liked it when you forked off. That was cute.❤
😂
Did the microphone actually crap out, or did you censure her because she was telling the buffalooo.. lol.. to "fork off" like the trails in the last video???...lol
I do need to be censored at times! 😂
@@trailaddictSD 🤣🤣🤣
Loved the "fork off" and the giggling that followed!!! lol
lol…it happens!
The Beaver Creek-Lookout Loop t'is a great hike. The first vid I put on YT was on this trai, of a prairie dog and bison. My husband and I used to do it lots.
It’s a great trail! I find the prairie dog town a bit much, but the rest of the trail is peaceful! 😁
@@trailaddictSD Awwww, I do like going through prairie dog towns. They are a keystone species and very family and community orientated. And yes, I know that farmers and ranchers DO NOT like them. Read up on them.
If you fall that’s GG’s
Don’t jinx me! 😁
I will come with you beautiful x
You’d have to be able to keep up! 😉
Can you give me a shoutout
You’re kind of in the way of the view mom
lol thanks kid!
What have you been doing
lol
Dang mom good job on the channel you went from three to two hundred🎉
Thanks kiddo!
Before you even played the song, I thought to myself, "They have to change that guy on a Buffalo song." Guy on a Bison just doesn't flow as well.
Right? I was also thinking of the song that goes “oh give me a home, where the Buffalo roam…” doesn’t sound right saying bison! 😁
Black Elk Peak 😜... old habits and all that
Dang it! Yes, I usually don’t have an issue remembering that one, but the sign still had Harney Peak that I had just looked at before taking that video. Got my wires crossed!
Two years ago i found a bunch around Horse Thief lake at the pullout by the highway to Rushmore. It was around May 7th
That’s the tricky part is the timing changes a little bit each year and each location!
Great content! Incorporating SEO strategies can be within CZcams's guidelines and help your video gain more traction. Happy to provide guidance on this if you're interested!
Thanks for the comment. I’m not interested at this time.
"I just want to see where [the trail] goes..." The true spirit of a hiker!
It can be a problem at times! 😁
I sent this on to my neighbor here in NW Washington State, because he was born an raised in Custer with mom still living there. I bet I can answer questions of this area from a local boy!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Got any questions, I'll pass them on to my neighbor raised in Custer. I got a call from him other night. All he could say was, broken bones, I need hospital now! I drove to an found him in middle of 50 acres, laying on ground unable to talk, labored breathing. He could not tell me what bones were broke, so I couldn't move him. I called our new cop neighbor an 911. When cop showed up, I went to street directing 2 ambulances. He was emergency flown by helicopter to Harbor View hospital where extreme surgery is preformed. After ambulances left I locked up all his equipment. Rescuing this neighbor made 61 on my rescue list. I saw him yesterday an he is now much improved!
