    NEC and common sense requires busing where the wires pass thru the panel. NEC has an exception for NM-B cable ("romex") without a busing in this scenario, but not the unprotected fixture conductors. And in installation where the aluminum posts are mounted on a concrete slab, it's not going to short to ground. So if the insulation of the hot conductor is damaged, you've energized the entire structure and it's a shock hazard waiting to happen. With the ceiling fan video, there's enough room in the fan canopy to pull the "romex" thru the panel and make the connections in the canopy. But with this shallow light fixture you need to attach a junction box on the top side of the panel, cut a hole in the panel larger than the inner diameter of the fixture mounting bracket (the edges of the mounting bracket are not sharp and do not require a busing), and secure the "romex" to the junction box with a cable clamp. For less than $5 and 5 minutes, you'll have a safe and code-compliant installation. And to the DIY'ers - a non-compliant installation like this gives your insurance company grounds to refuse a claim in case of injury or fire.

      Panels could be ordered with or without the 'support beam'/wiring channel. They are more expensive so not likely on each panel you have.

    I have a south facing patio cover. Ive had a insulated and non insulated cover.For me the difference was night and day. On very hot days i could feel the heat ratiating off of the non insulated cover. The difference was so great that was the #1 reason i even replaced the patio cover. If you have a north facing back yard im sure the heat intensity is far less Just like your home. The south side of your house is going to be warmer than the north in most cases

    We need better instructions on how to run the electrical. Also, no inspector or somewhat educated homeowner should run romex through a hole drilled directly in metal. There needs to be a grommet, or something to protect the wire/sheath from rubbing against metal and eventually shorting out.

    9:49 Why would I want to put the lag bolts with neoprene washers in the channels? I'd be more inclined to put them in the center of each faux wood section. I know they'll be caulked, but on a flat section they won't have a tendency to channel water down through them.

    10:50 why does the front gutter top lip go over the front of the insulated panel. I understand your supposed to caulk the seam to prevent water from flowing under it, but it just seems like a poor design. It makes sense to me to design it so the top lip of the gutter would slide under the top sheet of aluminum.. between the Styrofoam and aluminum so there's no obstruction in the flow of water or the possibility of water sliding under the gutter lip.

    • @dougyoes
      @dougyoes Před 2 lety

      Agree. I may take a peanut grinder and channel out the styrofoam the depth of the gutter flange - then shove the flange into the channel and secure on the top with sheet metal screws.

    • @rossk6436
      @rossk6436 Před 2 lety

      @@dougyoes this won’t work where you have the male/female joints unless you cut through the metal also. Definitely poor design. Had two patio roofs done and the caulking always fails at that point and makes way for water intrusion and eventually mold and algae growth inside the panel.

    Hello from Cali-, So Cali...you made some great points. I have an insulated patio that was installed about 3 years ago, and has leaked at the joint with fascia in 2 areas. I have used tubes and tubes of silicone and recently removed it all and redid with black jack silicone sealant, guess what ? Leaks are still around. wondering if my installer used proper flashing. I am about ready to hire a few guys from Home Depot and take it apart to see whats going on. Any recommendations.

    He says that the angled part of weather-break in the C-channel should be towards the sky, but his demo piece is made with it facing down. which doesn't help me when mine doesn't have an angled piece and isn't in the center of the channel.

      @@christopherpopma2411 To me it would make more sense to put the angled part of the weather-break toward the sky as he recommended. I say this because I'd prefer to run Romex through the bottom, larger section. And it will keep the wire insulated from the heat of the sun (esp where I live, in AZ).

    • @PatioKitsDirect
      @PatioKitsDirect Před 4 lety

      Hello Fay W. To answer your question it really depends on the size of your cover ( larger covers require more post then smaller covers ). Let’s say you had a 8ft projection and a 10ft length ... the post would be about 8ft apart left to right and the post would be set at 7ft on the projection. On our website at Patiokitsdirect.com we have a 3D designer that show you in real time how many post you will have ( Don’t forget to click on double beam for less post ). If you need any help with this please feel free to call us at 888-851-8351 Thank you for writing in !
