Love it <3 Member of a New York group that does it pretty similar to this way as well. It is good fun, that does allow for different ability levels. Some are basic movementsand some are more in spirit of the belly dancing the music sounds like. (We range from teens to elderly... very flowy to arthritic and cane using restrictions. So just modify the amount of movement for comfort level.) And for those that notice, counting it out this way does vary from the original video slightly in count... but makes it easier to learn and have the group be uniform in transitions of the steps. We did ours in respects to sets of 4 and 8. Opening step being the 8 count around the broom. (Then 4 counts for the next parts.) 4 steps forward with 2 brom shakes each step (2 per step adding up to 8 :) ), 4 steps back shaking the broom. Turn directions and again 4 steps forward and back shaking your broom. The "show off" as you call it, we called the wave. From the nuetral start position we step in turning, take a second baby step for step 2, step out on the other side of the broom for three (while turning out), and step 4 was a wave with the outer hand in the air. Then repeat in the other direction. If you are a dancer a ball change can be used intead of the baby step. Next is the hip bump. Again we do a four count, switching the broom each time to do a double hip bump (8 bumps in total). The music will shift and signal time for the shake your bacon part. You will have bacon side to audience to start if working the other steps cohesively. Bending the knees twice a side.. go from start (step one), next side (step two), next side (step 3), and then bring broom up to shake it in the air (for the fourth count) and back to the starting knee bop (repeating steps 1-4). After going around the second time you will be redoing all the previous steps starting with circling the broom (for the most part). Exception is you start on step two! of going around the broom. Step one was applied in the transition of shaking the broom and setting it down. The rest is identical through the set. Then as instructed it is a little freestyle into Egyptian hands as the horns sound in the music. Line up in pairs or many per line, facing the audience or each other as you choose. We did pairs (or three in a group), facing each other to start while alternating hands, and then spinning out on the last horn blast at the end or the song into a frozen position. If you accidentally do the same hand...just repeat it to get back on step. If you are performing and accidentally miss a step... KEEP MOVING. Audiences will always notice a person who stops more than a person dancing among dancers. And HAVE FUN! Remember it is a witch dance. So smile or make scary faces, sing along or let out a cackle! Just remember dancing should be fun!
