I did not work in the pits myself, although all around me coal mining is apparent. (West Yorkshire). I have worked with a few ex-NCB lads who were made redundant and they were, on the whole decent guys. ( There were some exceptions who held a grudge against anyone not from their clique.). But the communities that the closures had an adverse effect on, can not be under estimated. I suppose it is much like any major employer shutdown world wide. Coal, steel, shipbuilding, car plants, banks, call centres and civil servants! That is progress I'm told, or Climate Change!
I’ve seen this film when I was in high school for the first time, which was decades ago now, but I still remember how touching this scene was. How hauntingly heartbreaking the melody is.
@@plasticbucket The Irish call it a Londonderry air because that’s where it came from in the 19 century the English version in the 20th century called it. Danny boy I’ll stick with the Irish version and fuck the English version?
Sheer class by masters of the talent they all have in being a part of a master piece of great British film making in a one off film that is brassed off r.i.p Pete god bless you and thanks for leaving your mark on film history

My dad was from Londonderry, and even 17 years later, I still sob at Danny Boy.
Sad what they did to those proud communities who are now on the scrap heap
A great film brings a lump to my throat each time I watch it sad now the pits are gone
Never heard of this film. When I saw the clip I went to eBay and bought the Dvd.

Brilliant movie, proud people the miners, shame on scabs. Where Maggie is she won't need coal to keep warm.
Excellent
Beautiful
What a film and beautiful music
Percy Grainger!
RIP Pete
The Irish just happened to call it Londonderry air?🏴🇬🇧🏴
They certainly did not

My heart beats faster too watching this wonderful film. Stop this racket and you'll end up in the next ward

I will die listening to this song. Thank you so much Moriyama-San
Brassed Off was a very hearwarming film. Especially because of Peter Postelthwaite.
Greatest film of all time😊
