JOT 63 Ntrak Roadbed alignment and Leg Starter
Right now, this modules like a bean bag not a single leg to stand on.
So let start figuring them out.
So, to get your track work right you need to get your roadbed right.
So here I go and lay down some more cork roadbed.

The bench work was done and now it's time to lay the foundation for the module build. Instead of using foam board for the sub straight I decided to use cork from a roll. It was a bit of a challenge keeping the edges down but now I know to put a heavier layer around the outer edge.

It's the final build video for these structures I'm happy to be moving on to the completion of this module. It is so nice to see all the little things come together and bring the story to life. There are still some little things to be added but for the most part, it's done and done.

The final stages of the building's construction are upon us, with the weathering of the roofs and the installation of lighting on the horizon. Tackling a shingled roof for the first time is an exciting challenge, and I'm hopeful it will match the high quality of the rest of the structure. While this video may be on the longer side, rest assured, future videos will be shorter. Keep an eye out fo...

It's time to scratch-build some doors for this structure. The process of constructing these doors was unexpectedly straightforward, and the transformation they brought to the building's appearance is remarkable. What began as a modest $40 kit has been elevated to resemble a $140 craftsman kit. You can see the difference for yourself.

I prefer to not ballast time consuming
Believe me it is my least favorite thing to do but it is the biggest transformational thing on a layout.
@@JackOnTracks I’m getting better noticed 2 spots that stuff was on top of ties but I can easily get it off even when glued
Excellent work as usual
Thank you
Looks great!
Thank you I'm just about burnt out on this build but I'm glad it's coming out looking good.
@@JackOnTracks I get that and sometimes set a project aside for a while. Have a good weekend.
Some super glues I use leave behind a frosting after they cure. It wipes off easy but it's a pain in the nooks and crannies
Ivery happy with the Tamiya and only use CA for non plastic to plastic bonding
Right on 👍
Thanks
Save some money and just order the gears from ALine. Nothing wrong with the wheels.
those replacement sets where the same as the Aline I think, but I have used the Alines in a couple of Athearn's,
Leave it as is one side will always be lighter than the other great job
Thank you just happy to be making progress on these buildings
I think the job can be done from underneath without taking the shell off...
True it can be done. I take the shell off not to damage ant of the details.
Looks great
Thanks!
The grey will give it a bit of contrast when done
Yes and after weathering it darkens up
Lol
Your bench is a big mess
Messy means a lot of work is getting done. Lol
Excellent job
Thank you very much!
I can’t do NScale due to eyesight or my little 4x8 would be a blast
Yeah it small for sure
What’s wrong with chessie system
Nothing just not my thing I don't like the colors but I do like CXS, and this maybe my favorite livery they had.
Nice car
There is going to be a lot of N Scale stuff come maybe a switching layout.
Cannot wait to see it completed
It's coming along pretty good few things I'll do different.
If I try to install that size decoder in that spot it always hangs up the front truck.
I fixed that issue by making a minor adjustment to the truck pick-up wires. I have two more SW7s that need decoders installed; one will be equipped with sound. I plan to construct brackets from Styrene for mounting the decoders and will likely upgrade the mounting in this one too. For the moment, however, it's operating on a local.
You opened the box upside down
So what?
I do that so the sellers info is not visible. thank you for watching. There's mor to come with these hoppers so hit that notification button.
Stinks you have to rip it up
Yep, that one hurt. The wife saw what I had to do and asked If I needed a drink, I said just send the bottle no glass needed.
@@JackOnTracks lmao all part of the hobby
Very cool
Sometime simple way is the best way to do something.
Nice work. What color grout did you use? I see from your shirt that you're Setauket FD. My brother is Yaphank FD.
Thank you. I used charcoal/black grout. I was in S.F.D. many years ago.
@@JackOnTracks, I used black unsanded grout to ballast my yard tracks.
@@DaveSCHS that is unwanted as well. I have a bag of fine and medium cinders for my yard.

I appreciate that!

Thanks, will do!
Nice work.
Thanks you! there be a Ntrak build and a Free-Mo build coming up.
Nice video. Good enough tools for the job. And everything does its job.
Yes, they do.
Nice music. This already elevates you above many channels. Good job taming the basement. Mine kept doing the same thing so I sold the house and moved to a double wide mobile home. 👍 Interesting channel so I subscribed.
Thanks 👍
THE WINNER WAS DRAWN AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED FRIDAY SO HIT THAT NOTIFCAITION BOTTON. AND STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT GIVEWAY BUILD.
I enjoy watching you kitbash the interior. You got some good ideas. Just sitting here drinking a beer and eating some hot ass salsa & chips. Who makes the goose neck lights? I like 'em and would like to put one on my barn. Cheers from eastern TN
Thank you. I'll be moving to Tennessee in the next 18month.Those are Woodland Scenic. but if you look on Ebay there a guy that have them for like 10 for $10
I got some Precision styrene glue from Yankee Dabbler that has a long metal applicator for precise gluing and it worked well for my Tichy flatcar build. It sets a little quicker than Plasturct glue and Mr. Cement and actually holds better. Cheers - TN
thanks for the info I've been a Tamiya guy for year. I would like to find some Tenex that stuff works great.
Still here, following your progress as you complete the build on this very interesting building. On my new layout I plan on running a 12 volt buss wire along with a ground wire through the center of the layout. I've got several reels of 12 volt LED strip lighting I've been using to illuminate my coaches (passenger cars). They can be cut apart at every 3rd LED and already have the current limiting (ballast) resistors on each section of the LED's. I plan to use about 3 LED's per building and running wires as you would run drops to feed the tracks but instead use the drops to light the buildings. Cheers from eastern TN
Thanks 👍
I'm also a Ham radio operator. Cheers - TN
Cool I'm a Ham sandwich operator. LOL😂🤣😂🤣
I make my own rust powder out of 0000 steel wool & vinegar. I put about 2 or 3 rolls of 0000 steel wool in a quart jar and fill it up with vinegar & put it in the kitchen window for about a month. After most of the steel wool has dissolved and formed rust, I pour the mixture out into my stainless steel 11X14 photo processing pan (a flat baking dish would also work) and wait a couple of weeks for it to completely dry. I then use a single edged razor blade and pulverize it into a powder and store it in little snuff tins. Then just use it as any other type of weathering powder. I sometimes use my A-proxo knife to gouge the plastic and fill it with the rust powder mixed with some Elmer's glue (PVA). On the little gas tank on the Walthers chicken coops and farm buildings I painted it white and the stand a light brown. I then dabbed the rust on the bottom of the gas tank and it came out very nicely weathered with some rust bleeding through. Cheers from eastern TN
Thats a good idea on making the rust powder.
I just finished a Walthers Cornerstone chicken coops and farm buildings & they came out really nice. I hand painted every detail after installation. I think on my next build I will do like you did and airbrush the windows before installing as they can be painted more precisely with an airbrush than trying to hand paint everything. I see you switched from the built in applicator to a paint brush to glue parts. Think I'll start doing that too. Looks to be a lot easier using a small paint brush. Cheers - TN
That is awesome! And yes, the paint brush hade it much easier to get the glue where I wanted it.
I've got a big ole hunk of steel 6 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches and it is perfectly square & weight about 17 pounds. I've got some welders magnets and use them for keeping my buildings square as I build them. I just found another little piece of square steel and will use it as well. I had ordered 3 1-2-3 blocks but the stupid post office lost them just after they had arrived. Really pissed me off. Cheers from eastern TN
I have some 1-2-3 blocks in my future
After much swearing & cussing I finally finished the assembly of a Tichy Train Group flatcar. I watched another modeler build one in a video & I really liked the brake detail on the underside of the chassis (which no one will ever see). I followed the directions to a tee and wished I hadn't. In a previous step I installed the stirrups and when trying to install the extra added bronze phosphor wire grab irons I broke off every stirrup. If you ever build this kit install the stirrups as the LAST step. I did make some replacement stirrups out of some staples from a desktop stapler which were the right size. I think I spent as much time chasing small parts across the floor as I did building the model, LOL! Upon completion of the build I painted each board on the deck a different shade of brown mixing my acrylic paint in a plastic communion cup as I went along. It came out very realistic. Now on to a load for my flatcar. Cheers from eastern TN
Stay tune there a couple of Tichy build coming up and maybe a few Flat Cars
When are you planning to do the giveaway?
WINNER VIDEO WILL BE OUT FRIDAY
The way I do bricks is to give it the white or black mortar first and let it settle into the grooves then come back and paint the brick faces. Another way is to first paint the brick faces making sure you don't get the color into the mortar grooves then come back and use a grout (white or black, etc.) and get it into the grooves. After getting the grout into the grooves, top coat with a flat lacquer or acrylic, whatever you use. That will seal the grout into the mortar grooves. You always want to use contrasting colors for the brick faces and the mortar joints. I like red bricks with black mortar or dark brown bricks with white mortar. Just so they contrast with each other. Cheers from eastern TN
Thanks Ill be doing a red brick build shortly.
Wife got me some emery boards from the dollar store & I use them for sanding sticks. Works great! Cheers from eastern TN
