What a nostalgic place, once teeming with positive energy, now left to politically rot. All the old houses and stores our grandparents' generation upkept and it's all for naught. I may only be 19, but still the nostalgia burns. You can see hints here and there of what the place once was. Dad told me the North End used to be a beautiful place. Now it's a wasteland, apparently... I still liked to ride my bike around here before I started driving, I liked to use Selkirk Avenue to get to work. Sure there's some heat around there, but I guess since I had nothing, nobody seemed to bother with me. Got many "hello"s. For anyone living around there, whether they be on the streets or what, God bless them. Every person around there, fortunate or not, is desperately playing a lottery. In a neighborhood that poor, school should be free, and there should be more of them around there so everyone can get in and strengthen the population. But the tyrants don't want Canada's long-timers to prosper.

Multiculturalism is an idea, it is a description of a society that only exists in the imagination, while in reality, there may be varying diversity, ethnic relations in Canada are profoundly dysfunctional because of racism and other forms of discrimination like sexism, and inequality due to discrimination. I agree with your sentiments about a helping hand for people, even just a meal can help settle down a lot of that anxiety and angst in a majority of people. I am pleased to hear your mother was active in starting that breakfast program. We need a lot more of that kind of help today. Isaac Newton is in severe trouble and the surrounding neighborhood is suffering badly. As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and its become nightmarish in many family homes. @@CampingCanada

Thank you for sharing. Don't forget to like share and subscribe. If you have time, check out some of my other videos. Yah, that's what they used to call it by my parents and grandparents, a social housing neighborhood started by a Mayor, Stephen Juba, apparently he was Ukrainian I think. We have this idea of multiculturalism and it is just an idea, kind of utopic in a way, but it was supposed to be utopic, it was an idea that we could all live in peace and harmony, be happy with what we have, help each other out. BUT! The reality from then, 1958ish to now, is that an idea is just an idea, a story is just storytelling, the reality is that ethnic relations in Canada need serious attention. I understand what you mean by growing up poor as shit and didn't label nothing and we often do, just not enough of us though so I think you are one of the rare ones. Anyways, those old social housing projects have history. In WW2 they segregated Jews from Polish creating a Ghetto which is where our colloquial term ghetto originates, apparently. Also, when government has to intervene in a social housing crisis because the citizens are too poor, it has historically been frowned upon and the wealthy blame the poor for not getting jobs. When soldiers came back from the war in 1945, Britain had to rebuild using this model in which was called Jigtown. People called it that because the only poor people they knew were people who identify or were identified as black, which the perjoritively called Jigaboo, a racist word originating in the imaginations of racists to describe people of African descent. Well, back in the 60's, there was only one family, maybe two that were identified as or identify as black and they didn't live in that neighborhood. Also, the city of Winnipeg was a progressing city in tiny ways and they didn't want to call it a ghetto so they used fancy words like "social housing" and "projects" because they did not know if this kind of social help would actually help, so they called it a project, which we now call it "The Projects", which is kind of inhumane. That's how far we have come with multiculturalism. An idea that was just storytelling it seems, because its become far worse since 1960.

Rent is about 1200. Apartments are fairly available. Some apartments are shared. Then you have utilities to pay. Groceries are expensive like everywhere else. Good thing is you don’t really need a car. There is one mall. The night life ends around 11. You have to explore different restaurants for your appeal. You may get a gig if you’re good.

Thanks for sharing. If you have time to watch some of my other videos we would welcome that. The neighborhood is in the North End of Winnipeg. Winnipeg, like all cities and towns in Canada were segregated by race and its ism which originates in colonialism, hence, racism. Those are the words of colonizers, they are not mine. I have read history books on our neighborhood, city, province and country for 35 years and in formal study at The University of Manitoba. Polish and Ukrainian people were not as white racially as British and French but in time were assimilated into the white race. Not even French we’re as white as the most supreme white, those who invented race theory and mythology, the British imperialists. And how they hated Polish and Ukrainian immigrants. Howard Palmer wrote about it in Patterns of Prejudice A History of Nativism in Alberta “The central and eastern Europe groups most often singled out for hostility on the Prairies were two groups of peasants from Eastern Europe - the Ukrainians and the Doukhobors.” “Initial public reaction across the prairies to the arrival of the Ukrainians was generally negative. While dislike of the “Galicians” (as they were called pejoratively) cultural characteristics caused some prejudice, ethnocentrism was not the only basis for the opposition that developed. The poverty of the immigrants upon their arrival aroused concern that they would become dependent on charity and reports of smallpox among them brought the of “Galician” immigration to an intensely personal level.” “One Herald editorial thundered: What is this country coming to? Doukhobors pouring in by the thousands on the eastern slope, Galicians swarming over the central portions, and rats taking possession of Dawson City, one would imagine that Canada had become a veritable dumping ground for the refuse of civilization!” Refuse meaning taking a dump.

You’ve got maybe a slightly better chance here, but you and me are still fair game to folks in this hood. I told the other guy to meet me on Selkirk and Salter at the Robins Donuts but he never came. I told him I know old ladies that would bury him! We have 8 year olds that would skin you alive just like you do. Not too many mass shootings in this neighborhood but per capita, I bet it’s close. I have trucker friends from Mexico and they tell stories. I can tell stories too. Like the time that one drug dealer invited a guy to his motel room and hidden in the bathroom were two ferocious big dogs starved for a few days. It was the longest five minutes I ever lived.
