Imho this man looked way to big on that horse.
you guys have clearly never been around horses. this guy isn't even remotely too big, he's clearly under the 20% rule and height doesn't matter. with that logic i can ride a 12hh pony, it looks questionable but mathematically it's fine, showing that you really can't tell from a video
It’s not the height of the rider that is an issue, it’s weight. That horse didn’t even rock when he got on. Horse is fine.
He needs a bigger horse - that's too much body for that little guy.
You look too big for that horse
I’ve got one with super high withers that’s a pain to fit.
Remember the 20% rule guys.. if i may go out on a limb and assume this man is about 170-180lbs (my apologies, i know it's rude to guess weights and who knows i could be wrong) that is still within the 20% weight limit of a 1000 pound horse, which is around what this horse seems to be. Other than that, so long as the horse is mature and has a good muscle structure to support itself and a rider, it should be fine. As for his height, if his legs can signal the horse without confusion the lower half is fine, and if his upper body has the strength and technique to not throw the horse off balance, it is also fine. That is the actual regulation for size of a rider and horse welfare. Take a look at William Fox Pitt and his height versus his champion eventing horses he rode for an example of a horse with a tall rider performing well
Yes you are way to tall
Height doesn’t matter:)
don't wanna hate, i'm not into equestrian world but I really think that you are a bit too tall and big for him/her!
Heigh doesn’t matter, only weight:) as long as your feet aren’t dragging on the ground
If you don't know what you're talking about, why not ask instead of spout. Cos you're wrong
Jim is taking 2yos, 3yos and derby aged horses.
You are way too big for that horse.. this is animal abuse.
Remember that everyone starts someplace and there's no better place to begin that with Reining Masterclass. It starts at the beginning and takes you on a journey from Sideline to Headline. You can learn what you don't know, from the comfort of your own backyard.

training my 4 year old, my least favorite part has been the baby brain moments 😅😅
Ha yes.
Love the videos, my wife and I were at the run for a million visiting from Australia. We actually watched your run. Our trainer in Australia is Matt Clifford, thats how we found out about the channel. Hopefully next time we are in the states we can visit the ramch for a lesson.
That's amazing. Matt is a very good friend and a stand-up guy. I would love to meet you next time you're in the area.
This is an intro to reining type event. Bring what you have, ride what you bring, learn what you can. Laugh, eat, joke, ride. Not necessarily in that order. We cater lunch and dinner with a light snack table and coffee for breakfast. We ride twice a day, do theory every morning and at the end you'll go home with a Google drive folder of all your rides on video with my audio coaching so that you can rewatch them later. We also have merch and an opportunity to purchase Reining Masterclass with all the exercises as well.
I thought the Bosal was for like 2/3 year olds? Just curious, why not use a bridle?
She rides him in it a lot to release tension he might hold in his neck and shoulders due to always being in a bit. That setup is NRHA legal for showing aged horses and sometimes it's a great way to get an older horse to relax in the show pen as well. I use it a lot.
I wish I could buy him!!!
If you haven't already, go check out Zyrenna and Ted on my CZcams channel, where Zyrenna talks and rides. Lots of great little tips to work with from a girl who's done her fair shair of winning already.
I keep them on because I’m too fat to be bending over and taking them off
Western
wow look at that trot! Horse could be a huntseater on his day off!
He can trot
When you're schooling at home like this, can you explain when you would go to two hands to keep your horse straight vs. try to get through it one handed? How do you decide when you have to go to two hands? How bad do you let it get? Have you ever had to do that in the show pen? Is it rude to finish your pattern if you had to go two handed? (obviously I mean on an older horse in a curb).
Is it ok that his nose is tipped slightly to the outside of the circle? Doesn't that make him drop his shoulder in? Just wondering if this is part of a process and you aren't worried about that for now or if you actually want him counter-arced like that a tiny bit?
💯
Inhumane device, cause pain. Hoses hate them. 😢
So sad 😢
Wow. How poignant.
LOVE THIS
I love everybody in the comments raving about how great of an instructor Jim is and saying they wish they had a trainer like him. It was through watching videos like this of other accomplished trainers that I learned mine was truly toxic. Unfortunately, I still board at the same barn, but I stopped working with the trainer there and am beginning to make arrangements to move my horse. It’s still sad to me that so many others have experienced toxic trainers and that instructors like this are considered “rare” and “special” just for treating their students like actual human beings.
I'm sorry you're struggling. I'm grateful for the good people and good horses in my life. I like people.
Do you have a pattern for make it
I don't. Sorry.
Praying that’s me someday 🥹🥹🥹 Metallic Mobsters my horse remember that name he’ll be famous one day you’ll see
I'm just happy it's not an ugly ole bald faced horse that the reigning industry seems to like nowadays
I never thought about that when I was loping my horse through the brush going after a few quitters. 😂
You should have. 🤣
Maestro
Her head is down for the entire video..... Not Happy😢!! 😠
Tell us you don't know...without telling us you don't know.
Pry should do some research. Just a thot I had😂
This is so funny lmao 😭
You two make a wonderful team❤
nothing better than a red mare 🫶🏻
It's a gelding.
As a famous horseman said a good horse is never a bad color.
I wish i still lived i. Scottsdale and had the budget i did as a youth. Amateurs and youth ate fortunate to work with you.
Thank you.
Love It! Having watched Albert work Expensive Hobby in person, I love rieighnig. You have allot to live up to. You can do it! Remember Doug Lilly ❤
Hardworking and everything you ever could have hoped she would be… it’s always amazing! I’m glad y’all had fun !!’
Thank you
Im training my 4 yr old and she has a lot of natural talent, the 5th time i rode her and asked for a stop she was already trying to sit down And stop. Im super excited for her, but i just dont know when to take her out of the round pen. I feel like we've done all we can in rhe round pen, so i think its time to go to the pasture/arena. I also don't know about loping yet... Also whats the next step is what i struggle with
Check out reiningmasterclass.com/colt
What’s his breeding like? You don’t see a lot of appys in the reining world!
I’ve had my Western Rawhide saddle for 20 years. I paid cash for it. It still squeaks… what does that mean?! 😅
Must have been counterfeit bills🤣🤣
For all the people that aren't Appaloosa fans.... this colt is gonna make some new fans!
Do you have a full video of this session? Any more of this particular horse?
Check out reiningmasterclass.com for full length videos.
@@JimGreendykPerformanceHorses I have the master class. Having a hard time finding this particular lesson.
I like horses, weird creatures they are
This young appaloosa is a really good young horse with lots of natural talent. I really enjoy working with him.
Heck, he's just a quarter horse with a few extra spots.
