Obernai is a fortified city surrounded by its ancient ramparts. A predominance of half-timbered houses in shimmering colors gives all its charm to the heart of the town. Back in May of 2018, as part of a self planned and guided 'tour' of the Alsace, I visited Riquewihr. Compared to what is seen here, the streets were all but deserted. Same for just about every other town. Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg, Bergheim along with a host of others. The only town that looked this crowded was Ribeauville, causing me to quip 'They must be giving something away in Ribeauville'. As an avid amateur photographer I enjoyed the quiet streets. Nothing is more annoying than to take an otherwise nice image of a place like this only to look at it later and find some guy in cutoff jeans and a Pittsburgh Steeler jersey just happened to wander into the frame at the crucial instant.... 🤬😂 Wonderful area for sure.
