Recently, I have took the plunge and purchased a DJI Mini Pro 4 drone, I had been dilly dallying a long time over this and I finally took the plunge, as such drone video's will appear here as well as my usual railway videos.

66781 The LAST EVER Coal Train to SERVE a POWER STATION, plus more trains around Ilkeston. 28/06/24.
Hi Folks,
I took a trip up to Ilkeston to see what is reported to have been the last ever Merry-Go-Round Train to serve a power station. The Merry-Go-Round (MGR) concept was inaugurated in the 1960's to bring coal from coal mines to power stations to "keep the lights on" so to speak. The last train ran on Friday 28th June 2024; 6M61 Doncaster Down Decoy - Ratcliffe Power Station with 66781; named "Ratcliffe Power Station" (the coal had originated from Immingham Docks the previous day). Ratcliffe Power Station itself will be switched off permanently in September 2024 as the UK moves away from fossil fuels for power generation.
I later went on to Bennerley Viaduct to film more trains, I also flew the drone around the structure - this will feature in a separate video.

A bonus video to accompany my previous video of Latchford Viaduct, a look at Latchford Locks on the Manchester Ship Canal. Situated right next to the Latchford Viaduct, the locks was too good an opportunity to miss. Whilst the larger of the 2 locks appear to be in use, the smaller lock (in the middle) appears to have been disused for some considerable time.

One place that has been on my radar since I got my drone is the John O'Gaunt Viaduct (or Twyford Viaduct) as it's known. I took the drone over Nuneaton's most famous landmark; Mount Judd. Also placed on top was the English flag as the Euro 2024 was underway. The flag was also emblazoned "RIP FENTON" - in memory of local man; James Fenton who had passed away.

The new Hollycroft Estate just off of the A47 North Perimeter Road in Hinckley which is still under construction. I understand circa-800 dwellings are planned on the site over the next couple of years.

A look at the former location where the Great Central Mainline once crossed the Midland Counties Railway, near Cosby in Leicestershire. Having last seen a train in 1969, nature is well and truly taking over the site.

Is it me, or are the iron ore and coal trains to scunny a bit on the light side. In my days of spotting at barnetby the iron ore where 24 wagons long.

I used to live in Loughborough (Leicestershire) and travelled to see my then fiancé (now wife living together in Essex) to New Ross (Ireland). My journey was Loughborough, Leicester, Birmingham New Street, Cardiff Central, Fishguard then Rosslare before bus journey to New Ross

James I have enjoyed you footage from today at the common, but how do you get to the foot crossing now as the last time I went there the farmer had put a gate on with bard wire and it looked like a electric wires.
Glad you like the footage Mike, you can still park in the usual places, but now you need to walk down the lane (away from the railway) a hundred yards or so to the public footpath on your left, which takes you to the crossing, so you're in effect doubling back on yourself.
I didn't realise London was at the North end of the M69, then again I did get a U in Geography.....
