I'm an adventurer, explorer, filmmaker and author who believes life is better outdoors. The channel documents my adventures and expeditions in the wilderness.
I prefer self-propelled movement. Hike, paddle, ski, snowshoe, claw. Whatever moves me by my own steam. My notable Canadian expeditions include crossing 700km of my home island Newfoundland by snowshoe, boot & packraft and 1000km of Labrador & Northern Quebec by canoe. Both trips plus many more can be seen on the channel.
I fish, forage & hunt. This is camping, survival & bushcraft. Long challenging expeditions & also shorter relaxed tours. My dogs are usually along for the ride. And they carry their own weight.
My mission is to inspire others to utilize, appreciate and respect all nature offers. Maybe even light a fire in some bellies to step a little outside a comfort zone & dare to live a dream.
Honestly, I'm just a simple kinda guy who loves nature.
Witness its beauty and live the outdoor life through my lens.

how do you tell when a lake is frozen over and where the shoreline is (because in the vid it all just seems white)? (I would be so nervous just walking out on the surface of the snow or ice)... i am from southern California and this form of trekking amazes me... i have googled to find the answer but still confused and would love to understand.
@xhawk69x14 I take an axe and cut through the ice near shore. Only 3-4 inches are required to walk safely on ice. Sometimes you can get by on less. Thanks for watching. Best wishes
I have no idea how I landed here, by the YT algorithm recommendations, but I'm glad I did. This was such a wholesome great viewing. And wow, Quebec sure is beautiful. Definitely La Belle Province.
@jeremiefaucher-goulet3365 glad to have you along for the adventure Jeremie! Lots of adventures on the channel and more to come. Best wishes - Justin
That was awesome. Thanks for taking us along
You are a total badass Mr. Barbour.....
I really admire how you handle every challenge and your positive vibe! It would be amazing to join you on one of your trips someday. I have a fishing kayak and I love heading out far from people to fish in the wild.
It was really good to see you find your canoe!
The Esquif Prospector is a fine tripping boat and well worth the trip to retrieve it.
I had the same tires on my truck. 80k/km per set, nothing less and every type of weather. I swore by them *thumbs up.
This was a really really well done video… at least it felt good to the soul… had a much felt something Wish I knew the story with all the last video collage
You have a good dog!
You are a great man. Beautiful excursion. Best video I've watched in years. I hope your life is always great.
the silence at night must be amazing. Every rare jet is extremely long distance, like turkey, india etc if you did hear one.
Almost three hours of video and here I am wishing it would have been longer.
could tell the weather changed about a good week ago to winter weather
Sure hope ur still alive and well man! Like everyone else…I’m waiting not so patiently. ☮️
Those Laplander are a good saw. Very productive for its size.

Definitely disappointed that I have just now found your channel but definitely pumped that I can binge watch all the videos
Waiting patiently for an update.
Some seriously unnatural clouds in the sky there? HAARP? Fantastic report, well done both of you
Aren't you affraid of the widow makers while you camp ?
Keep saying your prayers, the Lord has been good to you too!
Watched the whole thing from start to finish. Awesome job and Woohoo on getting your canoe back. Glad I stumbled onto your channel
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey JB, I'm new to your channel and have been enjoying diving into your expeditions. One thing I really appreciate is how your focus is on the experience and adventure rather than getting bogged down by gear. It's refreshing and something I truly respect! I was surprised to learn that your go-to tent is the Hilleberg Rogen. As someone who often gets caught up in the quest for the “perfect” gear, I find myself over-analyzing and sometimes letting gear decisions overshadow the experience of being out in nature. It's fascinating to see you choose a yellow label tent, especially when I find myself dithering over red and black label options, which I consider to be better on paper but, I ultimately can't pick because of pack size, weight and higher costs. Your approach is a great reminder that sometimes overthinking gear can detract from the actual experience. I’d love to see a video covering your decision-process for choosing the Rogen and how it’s performing for you. Given your extensive experience and the way you prioritize the journey over the equipment, your insights would be incredibly valuable. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Tex
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting Tex. The Rogen is fine tent and gets the job done in many conditions. Struggles a bit in wind over 80km and in heavy snow but it's not meant for that. However if you pitch it in sheltered spots and use a tarp to deflect snow it can be stretched beyond its limits. Not recommended by Hilleberg or me but it can be done. Overall, the Rogen excels as a 3 season tent in most situations. One day I will do a more in-depth review by video or writing. All the best
This is a great video about setting a goal and completing it. And it also goes shows the quality and durability that goes into each Esquif canoe.
1h8min has someone played "the long dark" ??
Happy dog 😊

Using meth rots your teeth
Teeth loss was from a hockey stick in the mouth, do I look like a meth addict? Wouldn't touch it with a 10- foot pole! Thanks for watching - all the best
@@JustinBarbournlexplorerI lost a front one the same way. Ref didn't even call high sticking. Cheers, great adventure.
Thanks Justin for the video, great trip and Saku happy with you, Now I prefer you to use your canoe 🛶
It's like a labyrinth. I bet a drone would have been useful for finding your way through those islands.
What's goin on @21:42 ? My computer won't play the next section via the headphone jack out but it will play it through the computer speakers. comes back in at 22:15. This is so strange. I've never experienced anything like this b4. It keeps doing it throughout the video. Laptop speakers play everything but headphone jack only plays certain parts of the video! V strange! What is up with technology? I give up. Amazing video. Only the Irish would do something like this. I don't see any 4th generation Canadians out there! He must have edited this with some parts only in the left or right speaker as I was listening in one side only. That freaked me out. lol
Thanks a lot for watching, glad to have you. Plenty of other expeditions on the channel and many more to come. As for the mic issue, I had a loose connection on my camera for some of this filming thats why audio at times is only left or right mic. If you watch without headphones you won't have that problem. Take care, all the best - Justin
All your videos are very good ty
Nice job Justin..
First time seeing this one, probably my favorite, cause it was in my neck of the woods, Arnold's Cove. Walked that track many times, and still do. Great video
The trips pulling a sled and on foot are harder, they are exhausting.

Thanks for watching Tex, glad to have you! Plenty of other expeditions on the channel and many more to come. Replaced tent with a Hilleberg Rogen. All the best
@@JustinBarbournlexplorer Rogen... Surprised you went with a yellow label. Is that your primary backpacking tent?
@@tex24 primary one at the moment. It's light and I enjoy two doors. The DAC9 poles are way better than MSR Easton ones
😃😊🙂🛶✨💪🚣🛶go canoe!🐕➡️
My vote is 100 for the canoe y 0,1 Rubber boat. The canoe has comfortable equipment and Saku is comfortable too. The canoe is faster and more comfortable to carry everything. The only drawback is its weight. I don't know how many kilos it weighs.
Can’t figure out if you are Canadian or Irish 😂
I was looking to buy a canoe on facebook, saw one I liked but it was as a two hour drive away. This was a similar journey. 😂
See you have a Subaru too. I got a Forester, lots of clearance and that neat X mode, just like a posi-differential. Took a drive out to Mt. Carmel pond in the AWR yesterday and made it there no problem. Saw a cross there for someone who died. Wonder if he got caught in that whirlpool near the dam ? Beautiful spot. Saw you there in one of your previous videos. Travelled across Labrador last month, route 510 was in excellent shape. But the drive from Wabush down to Baie Comeau on the 389 was rough, 500 kms gravel road, and dusty too, was worried for my tires. Slept in the back and did a lot of boondocking. You did well to get those 8 plies. Keep up the great instructive and fun videos !!
Thanks for watching Stephan, glad to have you buddy. Plenty of other expeditions on the channel and many more to come. As for that fella I believe he just enjoyed that area and they put a memorial there for him. Take care, all the best

Thanks for watching Julien, glad to have you buddy. Plenty of other expeditions on the channel and many more to come. Song is Parting Glass. ATB
Looks like Hodges Hill, we're you north of the hill?
Talk about a remote place, I bet the fishing is outstanding. You got a real good dog a real nice companion. I expect you fed him well and some nice fresh fish as a treat. Someone could spend a lifetime out there that would be something worth while as long as having a partner to share it with. The video deserved a subscription.
Thanks for watching Steve, glad to have you buddy. Plenty of other expeditions on the channel and many more to come. ATB
@@JustinBarbournlexplorer Good to hear that, I was looking for more on your channel and the latest was a year ago. Were you off on another adventure? Some day I hope to head up to New Found Land to do some halibut fishing and whatever else is biting. Try some moose meat and caribou is on the bucket list. AK would be the ticket but it's really far away from the east coast. 😁
