A lush chilled 100km ride in what's was, according to the forecast, supposed to be a little wet in the morning and dry all afternoon. We hit torrential downpours in the last 20km. Thankfully it was a warm day so it was still nice to ride in it.

Vittoria Terreno Zero First Ride Impressions Review

I decided to get some slicker tyres for the commuter, and with summer nearly upon us, now seemed a good time to go for it. I picked this 700*47 Vittoria Terreno Zero tyres from Tredz. They fitted to the Hunt wheels super easily, with justa. track pump.

Sorry to hear this man Glad you are starting to recover take it easy be kind to yourself as you said
Thank you 😊
Awful when it happens. Good to see you on the mend. I've suffered with back issues since my late teens, so completely understand your description of pain and not being able to put socks on 😂. Mine is caused by degenerative disc disorder/disease, and I used have horrific referred leg pain. Double nerve root block helped with that. Just get 'collapse to the floor' muscle spasms these days. 😳 Take the drugs. Take it easy. Take it slowly, and you'll get there. 🙏🏻
Cheers bud!
Thanks for this. Im looking to get a the GRX2 version as my bike packer / winter / tour bike and am weighing up titanium vs aluminium. I have a 'fast for me' Ti bike and love it so im swaying towards the Ti. I fancy mud guards and a rack for tours so this looks to fit the bill
I had a Kinesis Tripster before this which was great but bikepacking was wearing the paintwork down. Ti is so low maintenance when it comes to that, and it's been a great ride so far.
Hope you don't need the 'definitive' spinal injury test... 😳 (speedy recovery 🤞🏻)
I was the same when I seen the new GRX Di2 prices mate...
🤣🤣🤣
Wish you a speedy recovery
You know what you're doing, but I leave the chain on the big ring to avoid the emergency room. Apparently, you'd had that crank off before. DUB cranks are the bane of my existence. I had a bike on the floor and was literally standing on the wrench - and couldn't get it off. I quit because I was afraid of breaking the frame. Somehow my co-worker got it off (I didn't see how...) On r/bikemechanics the guys were saying that they use air wrenches. One guy said he contacted SRAM and they said that they know that the crank bolt galls.
Yeah, I think I've got lucky with the cranks I've had, so far I've not had to resort to any drastic measures or lose the skin from my knuckles on a chain ring!
I will never felling confortable and safe with a hookless wheels
I am always felling comfortable and safe with a hookless wheels.
Can’t help but feel it would be so much nicer if you didn’t have to cycle on roads to get into town from the coast/East.
You can if you stick to the Coast Rd cycle path or NCN72. I tend to mix things up just to make the ride a bit quicker.
Thanks for posting this review. Look like great tires.
So far, so good. I've been impressed by them.
Hi there what width are your tires? I am curious if this would work for me…
I've run this set up with both 47mm and 50mm tyres with zero issues. Good luck!
Really useful, cheers
You're welcome
01:45 ish, is that a shallower climb to the top of the slag heap??
You know me too well 🤣
@@TheRadGravelRider nah, I just divvent fancy the steep "normal" line 😂
@@steffanh a word of warning, this line gets wetter in places 😉
I'm sorry that I missed this one, but I was full of cold and didn't want to share it with you all. See you next Monday all being well.
Get well soon mate
Grand review! Quick question...what is the reasoning for the comfort comment re carbon wheels with this frame? Just curious as I'm looking at one of these bikes but Sonder do a carbon wheel option too. Cheers
I found the Hunt Four Season Gravel X-Wide wheels a little harsh, and the carbon wheelset just felt more comfortable. Lots of reviewers love the word "compliant". I prefer "cushty"!
@@TheRadGravelRider thanks for that. Cushty. Great word 😁
For a moment there I thought you'd be breaking out the bikepacking/bike-rafting emergency canoe 😉
Definitely would have come in handy a couple of times!
You could attach the tent poles inside the frame triangle on the seat tube or on top of the top tube. Bit more dry bag space for something else?
Good shout. They'll fit in the frame bag as well.
Hookless wheels held on the tyre by hopes and dreams only. That's a no from me dawg
Haha. No, held on by science and physics. Yes from me to facts not fiction.
Cracking video as always Mark
Thanks 👍
And yes, it rained 😉
I knew I'd jinx it, got soaked on my lunch hour run earlier 🤣
@@TheRadGravelRider gutted I missed this one though the pace you lot have been going recently I'd be an hour behind 😂
@@fazzini3868 it's been very punchy recently but we have split up in to groups, fast and faster it seems😭. You'll soon be back on it! 💪
Hi great video can i ask what make/model are the glasses your wearing
Thanks. I was wearing Pit Viper Exciters. Probably better for a cooler day, they steamed up a fair bit on the hotter sections due to the side panels.
Brilliant thank you for the reply
A great summary of a wonderful ride. Thanks Mark 👍
Cracking route wasn't it! Great to get another ride in together.
Как включить обновление???🤨
Download the SRAM AXS App, pair your AXS components with it and it will notify you if an update is available for that component.
@@TheRadGravelRider спасибо всё получилось. 😎👊🏻Нужно было продлить до конца предложение об обновлении и просто нажать кнопку на контроллере 🚴🏼☺️
Good video. Do you remember which size bearing you use?
From memory 6902 2RS bearings.
Just got this post today - a year after you sent it. If I may ask an embarrassing question, what's your height and weight. The reason I ask is that this jersey is only available by mail order only where I live. I'm either a large or extra large depending on manufacturer (except Castelli where I'm 4 XL or something like that - but Castelli is always bizarre). Your review was intriguing, but your further guidance would be welcome, Thanks
I'm 5ft 11 with a 44 inch chest. The jersey is a large but is an athletic fit. You may want to size up to XL.
@@TheRadGravelRider Thanks. Appreciate the info. I'm about the same size as you I think.
Can you help identify your friend's rear fender at the 4:25 mark? I've been looking for that design everywhere.
Yep, that's a Mud Hugger, gravel edition. I've used a standard 29er Mud Hugger in the past. Great bit of kit but not light and needs to be attached with around 6 zip ties.
I’ve never done it in two years😮
Hahaha, time to make a change 😉
Done it now 💪
the front of the jacket is dirty from the bikes in front that have the ass saver, good for solo riding but not groups
Yep, unless you're running full fenders (which aren't always the best on off road trails) then riders behind will still get some throwback, but definitely nowhere near as much as riding behind someone with no guard at all.
Cracking stuff!
Cracking post mate , love this route
Pittington Trail is lush!
At 12.26 mins immediately to the left there's a canny track that takes you towards the Pittington trail . There's a stile and a gate on it .
@@davidclement2843 Ah, the route sent me up through the field and farm then it was a short track on the right off the farm drive before hitting a bit of tarmac for the turn off at 12min 34sec. We'll have to get up there together one day so you can show me.
Great looking ride everyone 🚴👌
Where’s that you are riding please? Looks beautiful! 😊
North Tyneside and South Northumberland, Whitley Bay, Seaton Sluice, Backworth, Killingworth, Rising Sun Country Park, Holywell and Holystone. We're super lucky to have lots of trails to ride on.
@@TheRadGravelRider absolutely gorgeous. Thanks! 🤩
"persuading" AKA - if in doubt, twat it with a hammer! Glad it's not just me that does that 😂😂
that's just temporary?
Nope, that'll last the life of the tyre, it's great.
Looked like a great ride.
Most excellent!
Have you managed to do the freehub bearings as well?
Only had them changed once and that was a while ago now. I got the LBS to do that.
Hookless rim.. aah hell no
Hahaha, hookless Rims? Aah hell yeah!
What kind of frame size does the wheel have?
Evil designed the frame to fit 29er wheels (700cc).
Hi, can i ask what size frame you went for and how tall you are please? I'm 6'1 so uncertain if i should go for L or XL!! Thank you. Great vid btw.
Thanks! I'm 5ft 11 and went for a medium. I prefer a smaller frame size. I've mates who are a similar height to you and went for the large and haven't regretted it.
Lovely warm ride in the sunlight. We missed you tonight. We had a high attrition rate, but a great night, and all got home safely.
I hear there was a puncture or two! Should be back for next week mate.
Girls: Nah, it's too far, Imma take an Uber. Boys: Nah bro, I get there by bike in no time.
😂
Wondering who the guest French person was? 🤔😉
My worst Marcel Marceau impression 😂
@@TheRadGravelRider 🤣
Perfect Dirtbag conditions & love the tune 👌
These tyres make you no quicker , relying on Friction by inflating to 73 psi max for road tyres makes no sense , stick to hooked
For my riding road tyres make no sense, so I'll stick to hookless.
Do you think electronic shifting is honestly better than properly set up mechanical shifting? I can think of nothing worse than software driven bike gears.
I think done right, yes, definitely. Like anything, if it's well maintained and used properly it will work. I like the simplicity it brings when building a bike, two (or one if using a 1x set up) less cable to worry about. I had more issues with cable gears than I've had with wireless, but that's my experience. There 100% is a place for cabled gears, and I won't lie, I have considered them for the Sonder Camino build in the future, but for now I'm loving the clean lines and simplicity wireless brings.
Love love evil bikes, have a calling, offering and now a Hagar in the quiver on your recommendation! Glad they helped you out, excited to see your fresh build!
Great to hear! The bike is built, I did ride it a few weeks ago but I hadn't bled the rear brake properly. Sorted it last weekend and hopefully I'll be out on it again in a few days time. Such a fun bike to ride.
@@TheRadGravelRider I've not heard great things about the i23 wheels that came on it, any recc on budget wheels? Tires for med gravel and smooth single track here in Bentonville USA?
@@daldaylong9547 to be fair my i23 wheels are still going strong. I use them as a winter wheelset, so they get a lot of wet weather abuse. I'm a fan of Hunt wheels, cheap, easy (and again cheap) to maintain and have really good customer support. Tires are dealers choice, though whatever you go for I strongly recommend making the most of the Hagars ability to take 50mm wide tires. I've ridden Panaracer Gravel King SK's and Maxis Ramblers in 50mm width on them and they make for a super comfy ride.
@@TheRadGravelRider thanks will check them out!
You’re welcome to them. I’ll stick with hooked, thanks.
I’m ashamed to say I have no idea where I am once I go south of the Tyne by bike. Looked like a good route apart from the trail damage. How long was this route?
I used to be the same, there's a ton of stuff over there waiting to be explored. From Tynemouth Pool the loop is around 36 miles.
@@TheRadGravelRider I actually thought it would be longer than that. Those tracks must be in fairly close proximity to the river. I really need to look into what’s there. I live in Gosforth so it’s not far away at all. Dunno what it is about crossing the river it’s like another world 😂
I did an abomination on mine I got 2 short fenders at the back that ass saver wing and another small one meant to shield the body of the bike from mud.
