What is the maximum time since the M-bond 610 is applied until heat is applied? What is the curing time of the M-bond 610 adhesive and at what temperature?
Thanks for the great questions, Jose! The maximum time between applying the M-Bond 610 and applying heat is 5 minutes of drying time, after application, and no more than four hours before clamping pressure is applied and the heat cure is started. Please reference our Instruction Bulletin B-130, www.vishaypg.com/doc?11130, page 4 for a detailed explanation regarding M-Bond 610 full curing time and temperature. There’s also info related to strain gage installations with M-Bond 43-B, 600 and 610 Adhesive Systems, which you may find helpful in the future. Still have questions? Hi there, can I use normal transparent tape to apply the gages instead of the PCT-2M tape? Will there be any kind of damage to the gages or a decrease in adhesion? Thanks a lot, great video!
Thanks for your question! If using a tape other than PCT-2M for gage bonding, the user is then testing a new tape. It may work or it may not work; the test will determine. Some things that can be wrong with an unproven tape: - silicone contamination,- sensitivity to the adhesive (which dissolves the tape mastic), - incompatibility with cure temperature,- contaminants which change the strain gage adhesive and cause the installation to fail. PCT-2M is tested and proven compatible to the gages and adhesives and will not contaminate the installation.
Why does the M bond have an expiration date? I bought a kit with 8 bottles and only used two. The rest have been sitting in storage for 3 years. I take it they can't be used....
+GnosisMan50 M-Bond 610 has an expiration date because it is manufactured using highly reactive resins and solvents. These components have specific activity times (shelf life) to ensure the most effective performance. Additionally, the two parts of the adhesive are both hygroscopic, with water absorption diminishing performance. While it may be possible to freeze the two bottles (parts A and B) and extend shelf life for an extended period of time, normal storage, even when refrigerated, has a limited optimal reactivity period presented as the shelf life. Both freezing and refrigeration require careful handling to ensure no condensation during the cool down phase and no water absorption during the warm-up phase.
