Richard Harding 1928 Auburn Boattail Speedster
Boca at Nova 2024, Concours & Motor Festival, hosted by Wayne Carrini, was held at Nova University in Davie, Florida. In 2024, this show replaced the Boca Concours d'Elegance in Boca Raton. This 1928 Auburn Speedster won Best in Show. When Mr. Harding’s dad found this car, it was a rusty hulk in the weeds. His father started the restoration, but lost interest in favor of planes. So, Dick finished the job. The result is a superb restoration and this beautiful vintage car has won numerous awards at car shows and Concours events. Dick Harding is a member of CCCA and AACA. Take a look and be impressed. This video also won a Silver Telly Award. To keep up with additional interview videos with classic/vintage car owners. SUBSCRIBE!

    With all due respect, the gentleman owner is rather misinformed about his car. Park Ward’s design 700 drophead coupé with the unique tail lamp treatment was made 55 times. Additionally, air conditioning was only offered on standard steel cars in 1956, and not available at that time on the Bentley Continental. Lastly, the engine is not of dual overhead camshaft layout; it is of overhead inlet and side exhaust valve design and employs pushrods. Facts matter.

    When i was a teen in the early 60's my friend had an Uncle that collected old cars. He had a big house on the water and in the seaplane hangar instead of a float plane there were old cars and an Auburn Boattail speedster. A plaque on the dash proclaimed that the car had achieved 100 miles per hour on the test track. That car is still around today in Hilton Head and can be rented out for special occasions. This friends Uncle had scores of old cars tucked away as well as old school wooden speed boats for running booze back when.

    Great video. Brings back memories. My late uncle had one of these early Jaguars. When I stayed over (talking very early 50's), I'd gaze at the enormous Lucas headlights, be transfixed with the chromework: the scrolled bumper, the iconic Jaguar bonnet symbol, and of course, sit in it, take in the glorious leather smell, and pretend to drive it! Thanks!

      @RetroCarChannel777 Před 7 měsíci

      Jeff, Thanks for your comments. Glad you liked the car. Unfortunately, most vintage/classic car owners won't put a price on their cars publicly. That is because the value is only what someone is willing to pay, and a value before the owner wants to sell may turn off some future buyers. And the truth is that many vintage/classic car owners don't make any or very much money when they do sell because of the fluctuating market to a small niche. Most collectors have an emotional attachment or just like to own. Most of these cars cost more to rehab, maintain, and show than they can return when sold. However, some of the rarest cars do appreciate like some of the Bugattis, Ferraris RRs, prewar MBs, etc. Also, it is predicted that because the collectors tend to be older men, that when they tire of collecting or pass on, the younger generation won't be interested in collecting these cars. Therefore the values may decline significantly. Keep watching, we'll have more videos soon. Subscribe to keep up. Thanks again.

      @@RetroCarChannel777 Thank you for the thoughtful and informative reply. The reason I ask is because I was at an estate planning presentation and one of the presenters was a CPA. He said he owned a car that had been passed down through the family that was worth $500.000.00. Someone ask what it was and he said a 1912 Cadillac and that he was leaving each of his kids a 1/9th share ownership in the car. That seemed like an interesting approach to me. I wonder how well that will work out?

    Actually the fastest 1941 Buick is the Roadmaster Convertible Coupe which had the big 320ci engine with 165hp. That model was the fastest production car in America in 1941. Just 1,869 of these were made and it is estimated that only 50-60 of these exist today. I’m fortunate to be restoring one of them here in Australia.

I got to my hometown and saw a friend who ran a Tree Service working a job. I stopped to show him the truck. He tried hard to buy it from me. I kept it. Enjoyed it for awhile till in 1972 I traded it in for 1968 Dodge van to take a vacation trip with wife and 2 kids. With a mattress in the back it was great for the kids to sleep when tired.
