    Nice video Nicholas. You get around. I haven't been to Farnborough since I left England in 1993. I was there as a boy of 11 when the DH 110 disintegrated. Not nice. I saw the 22 Hunter record loop by 111 squadron RAF a few years later, and unfortunately the Breguet Atlantique crash into the Black Sheds (since demolished) on another visit. But I did see the prototype VIggen take off after a short run and throw an immediate barrel roll at low level. Lots of tales about Farnborough! Pommy Clive again

      Thanks Clive for takingthe time to watch my videos and commenting. I do love a good airshow and have been fortunate to have experienced them at home in Australia and when I was living in the UK over 20 years ago. The Farnborough Show didn't have any mishaps which was fortunate and was a v ery enjoyable day. Ticked off so many planes on my "to see" list.

    • @jjmcrosbie
      @jjmcrosbie Před rokem

      @@neggleston Hi Nicholas. One doesn't need thanking for enjoying oneself, as I do watching your videos. Between 1966 and 1992 I never missed a Farnborough. I was there for the first show "SBAC plus overseas types with UK connections" and later "Any entrant". I saw the first US static planes guarded by swaggering US security guards with their big peaked caps with their 8 corners. Until the Harrier flew: then they were like kids with their mouths open and you could have raffled their planes! At some point during that period, Farnborough changed from annual to biennial, alternating with "Le Salon du Bourget" = Paris Air Show. If you find yourself in England during July, try RAF Fairford for their Annual RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo). All military types, but a great show. Try and arrive about 06:00 to secure a good spot. It's Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with visits allowed to see arrivals and practice flights Tue, Wed and Thu and departures Monday. All of these days are well attended and you have to run from the gate to the flight line, some 500m or so to get a decent place. You'll see lenses as big as Lager kegs, and some folk up stepladders. But I imagine that sort of scene is familiar to you. I live in rural France now, and there's a fair number of rural "Meetings Aériens" = airshows. One sees the same types over and over again, with the odd surprise visit like a Beech Staggerwing one time. There are French versions of Me 108 and Fieseler Storch with French engines replacing the originals. These types were made in France during WW2, and so the French carried on the same production lines post war but without German engines. I have a "To see" list, too, but in my case it's a "To photograph" list. It consists broadly of any type I haven't photographed with a few special targets like Super Constellation. My present collection, arranged into 10 illustrated word processor - [.pdf] files has 572 types. Sounds a lot, but there are some big gaps in it. I have taken no videos though. Might be a bit difficult for 81 year old Pommy Clive. Stay well. If you took the time to read all of that, then it's you who are to be thanked!

    So, Nicholas, what a shame no one commented! You deserve a good pat on the back for this nice video of a DH Gypsy Major powered Drover. I read that the Mk 3 had Lycoming engines, like the gate guardian "John Flynn" which I saw outside the Alice Springs Aviation Museum in 2006. In fact the RFDS had all their Drovers modified to this standard. I expect you knew all that anyway. So well done Nicholas, and thank you for a nice video. From Pommy Clive.

    Great video! I lived in Newington from 2002 to 2005 in an apartment near the Marketplace. I left the area to move interstate. I went back for a visit in 2019 and also noticed how much the trees have grown, changing the views and how the place look. Not a bag thing, its very lush and green, but its certainly different to back in 2002. What was sad was to see the state of the Olympic Stadium, its now looking very run down on the outside. It hasn't aged well.

Glad she's still here and hope to visit her again someday. She singlehandedly saved the transatlantic run and gave us the wonderful QM2 to go out. Still wish the Victoria and the new Elizabeth and Anne were also liners so we could have four active new liners than just one though. Oh well. It's vessels like QE2 that continue to give me the motivation to design and one day build my own superliner. :D
