    Well video is up for some month but my Idea or suggestion would be to coat by yourself if you dont find the right paper. This might not end up in the same way as the paper itself but could be an alternative. By that i mean like most sticker shops using some protective vinyl sheets on top of your printed cards. Then you could also use glittery effects and stuff to create more special ones. Yes its increase of working time and material costs but I would think this could be same with price for the liked paper in the end. Hope this helps or give another idea to try 🙈

Here goes take #2: I like the vulnerability that you show in your videos. Creating art to show others is scary. In your videos, you "put yourself out there". I thank you so very much for doing that. It’s probably not the cheapest, but Red River Paper makes some great card stock. You can buy the paper in sheets (and some in rolls) and they also make pre-scored cards in different sizes. I like a matte finish, so I use Polar Matte 60 lb - or Pecos River Gloss if I want the shine. Great company - but they are US-based.

  • @WhitneyFounds-TheWildDoodler

    Thank you so much for posting this video! The way you talk about your art; describing, and critiquing it is so helpful and reminds me of my art teacher in high school. He thought me so much in those formative years on how to truly observe the world and translate what I see into a story on the page in a way that is clear and unique. That is exactly what I see you doing in your work. I often fall on trying new styles nearly every time I pick up the pencil, but you have inspired me to get back into the mode of creating a "concentration" (as we called it in AP art) again and really narrow down my style into a cohesive thought. Thank you again, Keep doing what you're doing!

    • @luckysprout
      @luckysprout Před 9 dny

      Hmm well it depends on the file! If I'm printing something that goes through canva and gets converted to CMYK, I usually increase the saturation 25% or more just to compensate. But it really depends on the file. I hope that helps - it's really the only trick I use to boost the colours!

    • @tnt.dynamite
      @tnt.dynamite Před 9 dny

      @@luckysprout that does help! When I print on photo paper I don’t need to change a thing, but regular printer paper seems to come out a lot duller. I will try boosting the saturation and see if that helps. Thank you!

    Thank you so much Rebecca. You're very generous with the information you put out for free so I'm sure those who're interested and financially able would not mind the pay wall! I did want to ask you about the Kromekote paper- I have an ET-2800 and no matter what I do I end up having "pizza wheel" marks with my inkjet. I read that it's because the ink isn't drying fast enough so the rollers end up transferring the ink and I suspect the thickness of the paper might also ply a role. I've already turned on quiet mode and the "thick paper/envelope" setting but to no avail. It normally has that issue with glossy sticker paper but the lines are not as nearly noticeable. I believe you also have an Epson Ecotank so I wanted to ask if there's anything else you recommend? I think it may just be my specific model but wanted to double check before trying out another paper because I absolutely loved it! I believe RedRiver paper might be what I try next since they also have the cover glossy paper and many recommend it for greeting cards. Thank you again!

    • @luckysprout
      @luckysprout Před 9 dny

      Hi! I had a think about this question... I did have those "pizza wheel" marks with the magenta ink when using a faster print setting. The setting I use (ultra premium photo paper, best quality) is super slow and the ink is totally dry by the time it comes out. I don't have any ink transfer onto the white spaces. I also tell the printer to clean the print heads pretty frequently, not sure if that helps too. So if you haven't already, those settings might help. I've also heard of some people doing diy adjustments with screwdrivers to incrementally loosen the rollers because thick paper is a known issue with Epsons, but I haven't done that and don't know how lol. Hope that helps, and if that other paper works well pls let me know! 🙂

    • @luckysprout
      @luckysprout Před 12 dny

      I use rigid mailers! I actually have never gotten an order for just one card; I don't think it would be very cost effective for either me or the customer, but theoretically I'd probably use a slightly larger regular envelope. The way I package my cards (plastic sleeve with envelope + card inside) plus the heavy paper I use makes the cards super sturdy on their own, so I wouldn't be nervous about shipping one this way. ☺️ Hope that helps!

    Does the gloss side crack a bit along the score and fold?

    • @luckysprout
      @luckysprout Před 12 dny

      I was worried about this too! Generally, no. I think using a bone folder to make the creases really crisp helps a lot. I have sometimes scored the fold line with the bone folder beforehand too, and that really eliminates any cracking. Even at it's worst (if I'm being sloppy) it still looks better than other papers I've tried - some cardstocks are just so fibrous!

I may bite the bullet and try this one out for fun, but holy cow Amazon wants $108 for the paper. Why this is the case I’ll never understand since we make paper here in Canada (Cornwall). I swear we’re making it for the US and they sell it back to us for double! 😝 Now that wouldn’t surprise me.

  • @CherryBlawesome
    @CherryBlawesome Před 13 dny

    So glad I found your channel just now! I’m Canadian and it has been so hard to find reference that is relatable. I can relate to the paper issue. I’ve been hunting for years and still haven’t found anything I love that was recommended from other CZcamsrs. But they say customers don’t care too much about the paper as long as the print is nice and decent thickness. I guess my expectations are too high - lol! I purchased a very expensive Canon pro 100 a few years ago after watching many videos of artists recommending it for quality prints. But let me tell ya, it is a money sucker with ink! I feel like it asks me to replace ink after only 20 pages..if I’m lucky. It’s absolutely ridiculous! I’ve been looking at the Epson Eco Tanks with the dura bright ink (important), but I want a higher end brand. I think you are on the right track with that! Anyway, thank you for your generous content. I subscribed to your channel and can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Hoping there is one on how you ship your cards and cost, because boy Canada Post is insanely expensive. I’m curious if you bother offering tracking or if you use regular mail-and all that good stuff. Alright! I’m off to binge watch your channel!🤗

Have you any experience with either Etsy or Squarespace?🎉

    • @luckysprout
      @luckysprout Před 15 dny

      @@jeanettecook1088 I only use Etsy for digital products because the fees are too high imo! I use a Woocommerce store which is pretty DIY, but I know most people go with Squarespace or Shopify because of how easy they are. I would, at the very least, get a URL and have it redirect to your Etsy shop (or wherever makes sense) and put that on the back of the card; that way if you do run a self-hosted store with it later on, your cards will all still have the right address on them :)

    Love this video. Thanks for all of the info. Be careful. That constant repetition on your hands may take its toll. Speaking from experience.

    Could I possibly ask what thickness or pt. of chipboard you use? Its the one thing I can't find an answer to and my notepads are so flimsy! But I don't want to spend a fortune buying the wrong weight! I would so appreciate any insight you could offer...

      Hi! The chipboard I get is labelled as "0.040 inch" thickness. I get it in big sheets from Deserres art store. I'm not sure if that's a standard way to measure the material, but that's what mine says. They also have a thicker version which I think is 0.060 inches. Hope that helps at all!!

    Thank you! This is a really great project to use up the foam core I already had available. My first art show is coming up & I don't want to invest too much yet. Very detailed which is sometimes the part that is missing from other videos.
