If you understand how Indy films work, it's a small production, small budget-- they have to submit the film to bigger companies hoping it would get picked up. Tyler Perry saw the movie and used the pull he had at the time to get it picked up, and Oprah got behind it, it got the movie enough traction they got invited to Cannes. It wasn't in her contract because no one probably imagined it being that big. The reason all these people were trying to get her to go is because they knew if she wasn't at the premier people would question it, and from that nobody would want to work with her. Mo was making 5% off the back end of the sales. She probably realized how big it was getting-- then wanted more money because the people involved had money. She went about it all the way backwards and it sounds like she really still doesn't understand it. Getting invited to Cannes is huge. Monique would've had the chance to meet other A list actors and big power players that actually make decisions in the industry. Just her not being there was problematic. She was offered an all expenses paid trip to France for a week. She saw the short- sided dollar signs and took down her own career.
