How to remove (or replace!) fuel lines & fittings | Audi VW | S4
I demo how to take off typical quick connect Audi fittings attached to the fuel filter and what to do if those fittings are stuck, damaged, or need to be replaced - including how to replace the entire OEM fuel line. I also show you how to lower the gas tank if you need to remove the fuel feed, return or vent lines entirely for replacement.

Thanks bro
I just got my 4.2 bas motor torn down. Thanks for the tip on the Vevor it will make my project much better going forward.
Thanks
Thanks buddy, I managed to change my rear actuator. I damaged a couple of door clicks but the screws keep the panel on all good. Getting the cables on was a little tricky but I did it. Thanks for your video it helped.
Thanks for this video. I just did rear brakes on my 2014 allroad and followed your VCDS instructions, made the job a breeze.
Steve, you’re a legend. Thanks for being you. So I just recently purchased a 2004 Audi Allroad 4.2 with 205,000 as my daily. Changed the oil, added some liqui moly love products, new plugs, new filters, liqui moly fuel system cleaner, etc etc etc. She just seems unhappy under load and I’ve noticed she stinks when I park in the garage. Thought my catalytic converters were clogged, and may still be. I’ve been getting intermittent B2S2 codes and today I threw a B2S1 and S2 code. It’s either being choked out by a clogged catalytic converter or something else. So, VCDS here we come. -91 - 12 degrees requested and it was met with 1-1.5 degrees variance. -92 - 12.5 degrees met with 1-2 degrees variance. -93 - B1=-8 B2=-4 I think my B1 adjuster is getting close. Womp. But, no real other issues. I need to check fuel trims next. Thanks so much for making this video. It’s wonderful. You helped me understand what I’m looking at a lot better. I wish there was a resource for this information. It’s great to see it with VCDS, but I need to understand it entirely. P.S. how hard was it to remove the downpipes? Removing the catalytic converters on my B8 S4 was a nightmare and I’m envisioning the same here. Is there room and straight paths? The B8 was 1/4” extensions x3 and wobble sockets for 4/6 nuts…😂😂😂
should this work on the passat 2.8 V6 ATQ, right?
If by "this" you mean what and how the SAI system can be altered or removed, then the answer is "yes, in concept". But keep in mind (and this goes for everyone else in the comments who probably skipped over this part): do not change your SAI system at all unless you either understand how your existing tune is programmed to deal with an SAI "delete" OR you have a plan to manage the multiple diagnostic codes that the car will throw up. Unless you like having your check engine light on forever and also don't mind not knowing the difference between it being on for your SAI work and if something serious in another system appears later on, and now you can't tell what's-what.
Soup to nuts, concise, explination of how blow by is routed with turbo. Thank you.
Question: I live in Michigan, with I’m guessing similar winters and roads as you. I also run summer and winter tires/wheels. I drive a 09 B8 Avant and I need to avoid my rears from sight fender rubbing that is now happening due to my own mistake of running 275/30/20’s, 265/30/20’s were just fine with my current H&R lowering springs, but like you I well over due for new shocks and springs…. I know going back to 265’s would be the easiest fix, but if I go with the ECS style coil overs like you went with for my Avant, will this style allow me to make the adjustments on my rears to raise it so it allows enough room to drop when hitting bumps that my tires will not rub the inner fender well? I recall in your video, which was extremely helpful and well explained, you stating that you were at your max height on the rears. I’m just wondering if I should go with a different brand that has more height, adjustment or stick with the ECS brand that you have? Trying to avoid and future headaches before I dive into this. Thank you
Hey Matt - My opinion is that these ECS coilovers are somewhat aggressive in terms of the lowering range for this platform and were designed for a lot of drop that depends on a rather firm setting to keep from bottoming out the shock travel. I'm a little skeptical you'd have a rub-free ride on 20's. If you need to hedge your ride-height bets, it might be safer to get a fresh set of lowering springs and nice quality (like Bilstein B8s) and simply avoid the messing about with coilover height adjustment tuning all together. And that would let you swap springs in the future for a different height (or more likely, different spring rate characteristics). Hope that helps.
Such a awesome engine. Nice music
I don't have the tools or the knowledge to do this job... But also, I don't trust the dealer to do it correctly either. A rock and a hard place.
The answer is definitely a good independent shop - which everyone (an average joe, a CZcams mechanic like me, and the real trained pros themselves) needs in their life. There have been and will continue to be times where I've screwed up projects and have to take a car in to get sorted, pride be damned. Finding a good indi shop that you can build a relationship over time will save you tons of time and money. There is very rarely an instance where taking a car to the dealer is absolutely necessary. Which is never for anything mechanical.
I'm thinking about using a N75 off a more powerful TDI to control my vanes. My Manifold Absolute Pressure is 220kpa in 3rd at WOT. I want more boost, without paying for a tune. I can spin, do a burnout, all the way to 4th with just the mods I've already done.
Howdy, Looking for an update a year later? How does your wife feel about the ride quality? I have other brand installed and its bouncy. I'm in an allroad.
It just so happened that a few months after this work, I found a deal on a B9 Allroad and we ended up selling the avant to make that change. That said, she found the ride to be very firm and I have no doubt she would have preferred I just replace everything with OE parts. Such is the curse of being an auto enthusiast but it was a fair lesson in "do not mess with your wife's daily".
Great statement! Journey begins for a better setup for me. Thanks man!
How it goes with the Stern motor mount ? not too harsh NVH ... still good after 2 years ... asking to myself if Stern mount could be the BEST choice for my RS4. Thanks for your help
Personally, I still think they're great and I don't believe there are any signs of degradation since day 1. There's obviously *some* personal preference involved in determining NVH and of course I've got hardened mounts everywhere minus the driveshaft carrier so I can certainly feel the car and road but to me, that is input that's both enjoyable and useful when driving. I've also done some highway driving with the car since install and I wouldn't say any of the mounts have detracted from my experience. I wouldn't do mounts any firmer than what I have, though. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
7 years ago i bought this exact setup for $1500. Couldn't believe how cheap the guy was selling it for. After looking at many videos i had the shop doing the job,cut out the resonators. Now 7 years later i have 2 FI non res S4 systems and 1 Rs4 non res system and still haven't heard this system resonated, in person . Sounds great 😂
Great video. What software/website were you using for the manual instructions?
All my reference material for this car comes from erWin online which you can rent access to for a short period of time.
would you consider doing a upgraded fuel pump install DIY or guide for the B6/B7 S4? a pump that will be able to run E85. just a thought thank you!
Yup, I would and will likely need to with the trajectory of mods coming for the S4.
@@FigureItAudi thanks for the reply! i am wanting to go E85, but hesitant on changing the fuel pump because i never worked on an audi and i couldn't find any detailed video on how to do it.
What replacement filter are you using?
It's a Tweetler kit filter that will be featured in the next video for the S4.
Fantastic as usual, thank you!
Ps you can in denmark get scandinavien control arm kit, thats better in the cold😉
I ment better quallity
I always use clear wax on the treads, when i have coilovers on my car😉 regards sören from denmark
Great job. Very detailed and honest. Rare to see expert with honest review in CZcams
Brooo I love you
oh man. Thank you for explaining this. you're the only one who actually explained how the SAI heats up the Cats. it was not making any sense to me, I kept watching videos on it, and everyone keeps explaining how the system actually works but not even touching the point as to why the SAI heats up the CATS. my brain keeps thinking that the exhaust air coming out of the engine is actually very hot so it should be the one heating up the CATS, and not the Ambient Air which is actually at a significantly lower temperature than the exhaust air. now it makes sense with the chemistry lesson you added to explain this. thank you.
My Drive shaft went all the way in but I cannot for the life of my get my waterpumps hex flange to align perfectly with it . I’ve turned the impeller of water pump to try to get a perfect fit but can’t . I’ve also used silicon spray on both gaskets . Do you have any tips ?
It's been awhile since I did mine - and it's simply a finicky pain in the ass. You're likely doing everything right and it's just off by a small margin. You'll get it.
@@FigureItAudi thanks for the support.
I've been struggling this a while, though I feel mostly because my S4 is a cabrio, which happens to have a strut pass over the fuel filter, making it more difficult to access.
Just about to do this on my 25 Quattro, impeccable timing!
I asked and I received
When’s the next d2 video?
I know, I'm way overdue. I've got 2 more videos in filming right now but I slipped 2 more S4 ones into the mix that will probably be out first. 1 this weekend. There's been a ton of stuff happening on the S8 though and much more to come this summer. Such is life having a full time job AND trying to make content.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Spend ~90mins trying to figure it out. VERY HELPFUL!
Yooooo thank you! I thought this shit was broken. It was opening so fn low life saver !
Thank you so very much, Small helpful hint for the neighborhood. Have a friend hammer one side while you do the other, that way it unfreezes much easier and quicker. That way you won’t be screaming in your stripped backseat wondering will I ever get this thing off.
Can I remove the air pump and block the holes without a tune? I have to smog test it, so cant have a check engine light on. Also have gutted cats
Don't smog tests measure the hydrocarbons emitted from your exhaust system? You'll fail regardless because of no cats due to that...and that alone will throw a DTC. Doing anything further with the SAI system would only make all that worse. Technically, even if you had cats, removing the pump might make the smog test fail in the first minute because...you know...that's why it exists. Short answer, no.
Hi Hannes here in south africa a have a s4 b6 strakkel with cooling system fan is not working
Cool, thanks for watching. That sucks the fan isn't working - if you're asking me for advice, I'd recommend scanning the ECM for codes; you need more information to diagnose with since it could be electrical, mechanical, or a sensor elsewhere. Good luck.
You need an RS4
I need an RS something, I'll give you that.
Can VCDS show when your cam and crankshaft are at TDC?
No - the critical thing you're missing is the piston position which can't be specifically determined by those other things. You have to use the age old queues like crank damper position, the crank lock pin hole, checking through the spark plug hole on cylinder 5 - the manual stuff.
really good breakdown thank you for this. quality video
Job well done man 👍🏽
Thank You very good Video!!!
Hahahaha I bought an allroad cuz I love the shape and the fenders, and Im gonna slam it on coils or airbags haha. Kinda funny buying the car meant for off road capabilities an lowering it :p Lowroad gang
LOWROAD would be a sweet license plate.
Thanks a million! Your video saved me a pile of money! Well done 😊
What about SAI codes i.e. codes from air pump and vac solenoid, will they pop up and how do you turn them off?
Thank you
This was close enough to follow for a USDM B8.5 2.0T allroad. I ground down a medium-sized flat head screwdriver to make the tip dull for the union nut; chisels and sharper screwdrivers would eventually break the ribs off the nut while loosening. I poured out the fuel in the pump basket as there was sediment in the bottom. After reassembly, priming, and starting, the sputtered and ran very rough for 20 seconds then smoothed out, presumably after the low-pressure line refilled. There might be a VCDS output to run the in-tank pump longer to purge air.
