This is from an Australian TV show from 1978. The name of the program and the date is in the header. It's been deleted once. There is a much better quality version of the performance up here, but I've not seen any other copies of the whole thing. I had to edit out the bulk of Leif Garrett's interview to get under the 10 minute limit.

Check out Topcatsrepublic's edit of this video. Very cool! From a newly discovered, very high quality (Thanks Menro!) copy. I did a little fiddling to fix the beginning and the end so the cuts are less jarring. Sadly, this is all they aired, fading the song out. I looped the still at the end to cover the fade, which had gone to another scene.

The only full copy I have of this interview has a big drop-out all the way across the bottom. This actually pre-dates both VHS and Beta. But I do have this 30 second clip from a UK clip show. As always, please don't mention the name of the network, host or program, as that's how clips get found and deleted.

Everybody seems to skip over the technical sophistication of her stuff , which is staggering, to bandy about lyrical meanings. Kate was always hands-on with production, arrangement and instrumentation in her works, right from the beginning. Her pioneering work with the Fairlight computer is a good example, likewise her involvement in the development of body miking to facilitate her live show at the Hammersmith so as to enable her dance performance. She appeared almost fully fledged at the age of 17-18 with most of ‘The Kick Inside’ pretty well ready to go. Thank Zeus for Gilmour seeing her brilliance and getting her seen. Even then it was a battle against Studio executives that declared her too morbid and unmarketable. Dave’s financing of a 4 song demo was responsible for her eventual acceptance.
I met Kate back in the 80s just listening to her on the radio. Today, 40 years later, I recover it.She conveys the song through her body language. I had never seen anything like that. With her voice and her arms the double bass takes on a new life. How I would like to lose myself in that wonderful, transparent red dress.

"The Dreaming" was the first Kate Bush album I bought. I wasn't interested in her earlier work. This is where she really evolved into the unique artist we all know today. It's a very non-commercial and bizarre album. I love it!
She made my favourite literature come alive even more.
I went into HMV and talked to the guy selling.About rocket man by Kate Bush.He said she had been earlier about 2 hours ago. Lost ten thousand pounds being conned buying shares in HMV. less Divi of one thousand But I made twenty thousand the year before.Have not bought shares since.

Interesting that Kate acknowledged that The Dreaming demanded a lot from the listener and that it took several listens to appreciate it. That was certainly my experience. On my first listening, I remember feeling disappointed with the album. Now I think it one of Kate's best. I wasn't ready for it, at the time.

I remember watching this when it was shown on TV, and those closing moments with Nigel playing The Four Seasons just left me dumb struck at what talented musicians could make their instruments do. I can trace back my current love for classical music to this moment. Thanks Nigel.

When I finally looked into Kate Bush and her work. I'm rather pleased with her work. She has an intelligent insight about her visuals and songs. The story about Whodini and his wife was insightful. I found out she had an Artist development contract. It was definitely worth the investment.

Kate, a great artist different from the rest, beautiful, intelligent, elegant, sophisticated, with an incredible voice and an extravagant point that I love. Maybe because I am also quite eccentric.
