do you need a micoSD card in the unit?
@@lsouza511 Yes you do. I see I missed that in my explanation. I have had a card in there for such a long time that I forgot. The nice thing is that you can use nearly any SD card. Garmin recommends a card between 8gb and 1Tb.
Is there any way to map out a private pond?
@@cybrown yes there is. It’s called Garmin QuickDraw. That allows you to chart your own maps on your head unit then I think you can upload that to your phone through active captain. I plan on doing a video on this soon. Make sure to subscribe to not miss that video. Thanks for watching!
@@BassAndBrews Thanks! I've been goofing off looking for this feature. Hard to know what all the feature names actually mean. "QuickDraw"? I don't have a six shooter Garmin, couldn't you have named it "Personal Maps" or maybe "Custom Maps". Thanks again!
@@cybrown lol. Yea I hear ya. Humminbird calls it autochart live. Maybe a little better but not a lot.
Take the music off my dude
But great vid, keep up the good work
@@CiLyXx too loud? Not your style?
Nice catch man. How you doing man? I like your Canoe man .
@@mackjenkins7721 Hey man! I’m doing good. Excited to be catching some decent fish this year! And this was a rented canoe. It was a real nice aluminum canoe tho. I was out by myself so I kind of used it like a big kayak and just sat on the floor in the center instead of the seats on the far ends of the canoe. Worked pretty well.
Great video 👍🏼
@@Alexramirez_123 thanks man. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more videos like this.
I downloaded a lake near me and it isn't showing the whole lake
@@user-bi6zk7qe5b Did you make sure that the bounding box covered the whole lake? Also depending on the lake it’s possible that the whole lake wasn’t graphed.
I’ve rolled down that hill at Quarry Park several times. lol
You should try lawn bowling/bowls
How do you play that??!!
@@BassAndBrews there is a ball called a jack in a field and their are these special weighted balls that you have to try roll closer to the jack than the other team
Look up the special balls tho
I got an idea getting old Cummins engine stick it on the back with a propeller on the back of the Cummins engine and then put it in the water and give it all the throttle to the walls.
That sounds like a heck of a project! Good luck!
@@BassAndBrews someone else already did it. Saw it on CZcams
Nice to know info about the humminbird not coming with the maps and the touch screen. Thank you
Your welcome. Those were big points for me after I learned it.
@@BassAndBrews from what I’ve seen thus far the Garmin looks like the better unit, of course, depending on who you are and what you’re looking for. I particularly like the touchscreen and also like the clarity on the imaging. The question I do have and I’m continuing to look and learn about the devices, particularly the Garmin. Does the Garmin require a different and/or better transducer for the side imaging or does the GT 54 (think that’s the model, driving at the moment using talk to text) that comes with it already provide excellent imaging? I’d imagine it allows for the addition of a new (better/different) transducer. Thank you again
@@Wrensspeedshop good question. Everything you see in this video and any of my videos is the GT54. I think the imaging is great. The other transducer I see with these is the GT56. I think these transducers are quite similar. The 54 has ranges of 800 and 455 down view, and 1200 and 455 side view. The 56 has 1000, 800, and 455 for down and side view. So that means that the 54 has a higher accuracy side view but no 800. The 56 has higher accuracy down view and more variability throughout. The numbers really mean this, higher numbers are more accuracy and less distance. Lower numbers are lower accuracy and more distance. Hope that helps.
Wish I saw this before buying the Humminbird.
Yea man I hear ya there. That’s why I upgraded from my humminbird
That ugly stick looks fine tho
Almost! It has a big crack along it. But no broken tip which was surprising!
IMO that first fish was a bit past decent table fare. Canning one like that maybe.
It was tip toeing that line for sure.
👍👍 very nice videos. Thanks for share and for your time.
I note that User Data automatically synced between your App and your unit. I have a 93 UHD and this is not happening when I connect. Any advice
Hmm let me look into it. I seem to remember a setting that was for auto updating or not
Hello Wisconsin 👋🏼
I hate that this lake became a public access I have friends who live on it and they can't stand all these people coming on it needs to go back to private
Same problem - thanks so much for showing how to install switch

Nice 17 inches man. Nice catch to start the 2024 off.
Yea! Was super happy with that start!
👌
Thanks for the video as I am considering the helix 5. It is advertised as coming with at least 10k worth of included lakes but you’re saying it doesn’t? They are ALL extra? Also, forgetting maps for a moment, which finder do you prefer? Thanks.
Hello there, thanks for watching. You are right the helix units do come with a Basemap of 10,000 lakes. That sounds great until you look at the numbers. There are 15,000 lakes in my state of Wisconsin alone. So 10k throughout the country isn’t a lot really. So it’s only going to have the biggest most popular lakes throughout the country and at least when I had my helix, they weren’t very accurate. Here is the list of all included lakes. humminbird.johnsonoutdoors.com/sites/default/files/2022-10/humminbird-basemap-lake-list.pdf
@@BassAndBrews Thanks…yep, saw their base maps and mine are on there but heard the detail is not that good and shouldn’t be a deciding factor.
@@cutley2b Right the detail is not great on those base maps but better than nothing. If you want the rest of the lakes in your area then yes you will need a specific card to your state or region. The Garmin came with more maps built in than the card I purchased for the Humminbird. As far as my personal choice? I am going Garmin ALL DAY. There was nothing I liked better about the Humminbird. The Garmin touchscreen, Active Captain app integration, and built in mapping are all game changers over the Humminbird.
That was a big catfish man. " LOL"
Another great video. Thank you!
My man you are the shit thank you
You got it boss! If you haven’t already feel free to subscribe 😉
By any chance would you know if one can somehow remote control this “edge” model ? Thanks
I am no expert but I would expect not. I know there are attachments for different power drive models but those models have electric motors that rotate the unit left and right. These edge motors are pure mechanical for turning left and right so there are no motors that can be remote operated. I suppose you could rig up a way to remote operate the motor on and off but that’s about it.
Comparing apples to oranges
I would agree, but when you consider that the prices are near the same on these units. It makes them comparable.
That just convinced him to stay out for another4 hours
You got that right!
😂😂. Being out on the water is a reward in itself. Peace and quiet and nothing but nature.
True that! No better time spent in my opinion!
Isn't the garmin smaller physically??
Um similar size really. I’m nostalgic sure of the dimensions off hand but I can say for having a 9inch screen vs a 7 it is competitively smaller. I bought a storage box for my helix and the 93sv still fits in it.
@BassAndBrews I know the screen size would be similar, I mean the outer dimensions of the entire fish finder. My helix 9 g2n are wider than a touch garmin
Just bought a 4 pack of these(well 3, somehow an Aggro Master was in my 4 pack) and I'm really enjoying it. Definitely has that Brett funk but it's not overwhelming. This might actually be a really good jumping off beer for someone who isn't used to Bretts/Sours because it's not an affront to the senses, like some can be, if you're used to traditional ales and lagers.
Right! I agree it’s definitely worth a try.
Just upgraded my electronics to solix units because of this. Touch screen is so nice!
Yea it really is! Just a lot faster to do everything!
I have a new unit with the free 1 year navionics +..What’s the difference from the maps you download from the app, compared to the maps on the unit???
I’m not entirely sure. I have never had navionics +. I think it can give you more accurate maps for the lakes it supports. I believe there are lists online as to what lakes are supported by navionics +, but I haven’t seen specific details about what is different per lake.
Adorable! I just wanted to say please be gentle with the tugging as it could hurt their little nails!
I hear ya! Appreciate you looking out for the little guy!
Thats a st croix. Nice catch!
Yea it is! And it works great! What a find!!
This actually made my day ❤
That’s great! It actually made mine too!
See you can actually get an antler without having to murder the thing. Actually you'll probably be even better at hunting now because it's got literally nothing at all to protect itself with now.
that’s how it starts my friend.. first one is always magical.
Congrats dude! Super exciting find
Badass bro
Congratulations on your first shed. Now get out & find more!
I have that happen with legit all fish I catch I target a large fish and the smaller on next to it I don’t see is the one I catch
Yep that’s how it seems to always go!

Well that’s bigger than my 0in pb Muskie! I’ve only had one on once.
Was at the root today Lost a ugly small coho but caught two browns, one 16lb and one 18lb
Dang! Nice work on those browns!
@@BassAndBrews there coming in You gotta go out there and get yourself one
Give it a month and come out and catch some browns and steelhead
I caught 4 salmon on that same spot..
heck yea man! we tried it this year but got down there too late so we struck out.
