    Adjusting your approach to include matching backlog work orders (Corrective or Preventive) to current scheduled events brings immediate impact to the effectiveness of your resources (people). Another consideration, that I've implemented in the past, is creating a report that keeps everyone aware of the backlog week by week. The most popular is a weekly report for every Monday morning showing any work that was not completed the prior week. This should go to the entire team (BTW it's not to get anyone in trouble) to keep the backlog front and center and prevent the backlog from growing as we start the week.

    Based on what you guys have discerned and adding in my own opinion on the topic, Condition Monitoring encompasses everything you do, both online and offline to assess asset condition, Predictive Maintenance is the practice of using the data derived from Condition Monitoring to determine there is a failure in progress that needs to be addressed in a certain (shorter or longer) time period, and Condition Based Maintenance are the work activities resulting from the predictions. CM = Get the data. PdM = Analyze the data. CBM = Act on the results of that analysis.

  • @scioassetmanagement6179

    Excellent explainer, George. It is great as is but I can offer one suggestion for improvement. I always emphasize the time-independent nature of most of the causes of equipment failure modes, so I always show my P-F diagrams with a distinct *break* in the time axis. Your words suggest incipient failure or P can start any time, but the diagram does not. I also like to highlight that any predictive or on-condition tasks we perform do not offer any direct influence on the actual asset health & condition - we are simply measuring the effects against some standard in order to decide if and when we should perform a maintenance intervention. This may be obvious to some but others have this idea and a false sense of security that measuring the condition (though effects in RCM terms) actually affects the condition and extends the useful life - it does not. Finally, the real trick and the conversation to be had in asset health & condition is to understand which side of P we are on. When we do decide we're on the 'wrong side of P' (the right) then we should not try to *guess* how much time to fail in an attempt to defer the intervention. We should start planning straight away and perform the corrective action so we don't ever get close to catastrophic failure. I say don't play Russian Roulette, but yet a lot of maintenance supervisors and managers attempt to do exactly that.

    Obviously, the context of the priority is what matters and not what we label it correct? I typically use a high, medium, low in conjunction with a specific set of work types in my current industry simple because our processes aren't very complex. For example, your get to "as soon as possible" is our medium priority/unplanned corrective.

    • @ReliabilityX
      @ReliabilityX Před 3 lety

      That's exactly right. If priority is used to define urgency and response timing it is used correctly. Labels are not the important aspect. Your use is perfect.
