zhlédnutí 726Před 7 měsíci
Prepping your lawn for winter (at least in a cool season climate) is pretty straightforward and just two main steps: 1. Cut your lawn short, like 1" to avoid snow mold and other issues 2. Put down one last round of balanced fertilizer Products used in today's video: - EarthWay 2600A a.co/d/6tpySiz - ProPeat 7-4-14 www.homedepot.com/p/PROPEAT-25-lbs-5-445-sq-ft-Lawn-Fertilizer-7-4-14-N-A/314250395
Breathe Life Into Your Lawn With Core Aeration

Aerating your lawn is an incredibly beneficial thing to do, typically in the autumn. In this video, I'll dig into what aeration is, some tips to get started, different tools you can use with pros and cons of each, and some additional benefits of aerating. Big shoutout to Lawn Doctor in my area (Seattle) for doing the mechanical core aeration. www.lawndoctor.com/bothell-wa/ Products shown in thi...
How to Make Compost Tea for Your Lawn

A great way to get a dose of beneficial nutrients on your lawn (or garden) is with compost tea. Using compost or worm castings in strainer bags as your base with mollasses and beer, you can also add your favorite plant and soil supplements to really dial in your lawn health. Steps: 1. Measure the size of your lawn to know the amount of liquid to make 2. Fill a 5 gallon (19L) bucket half-way ful...
How to Do a Soil Test
zhlédnutí 30Před 10 měsíci
"Step 0" in any lawn or garden project should be to conduct a soil test. You'll get great insights into the nutrient levels in your soil to help you know how to best fertilize going forward. Too much or too little of a nutrient can make a big difference in your success and can cost you time and money. There are a number of ways you can do a soil test, but I've used MySoil testing for a number o...
Applying Hydretain and Baby Shampoo to Your Lawn
zhlédnutí 5KPřed 10 měsíci
When you need to beat the summer heat stress, it's a great idea to apply two hose-end products to your lawn: Hydretain and baby shampoo. Hydretain will help draw moisture to your grass roots and... well, keep it hydrated. Baby shampoo will help break the hydrophobic surface of your soil allowing the water to penetrate down to the root layer, instead of pooling at the surface and evaporating or ...

I found GS Plant Foods products this year and they've done wonders for my yard. Currently spraying (using a hose end bottle sprayer) Soil Soft, Green Envy, and Kelp+Yucca every 3 to 4 weeks.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to do this video. Just curious if you reuse the tea bags. How do you store the tea bags in between the brews that you're doing? I would think these could be reused a number of times. Should be a way to store these to keep the microbes active in between brews.

Great video! One thing I noticed is that you said you were adding epsom salts for magnesium. From your results, it looked like you were also high in sulfur. Epsom salts have a lot of sulfur. It's typically 9.8 percent magnesium and 13 percent sulfur. Since you said that you also tend to need to raise the PH, and could use a boost in calcium as well, dolomite might be a better choice. Just my 2 cents as an indoor gardener.

I use worms and microbes to aerate my lawn. No physical aeration for me.

That's great! I've been working on getting my soil in a good place since buying this property 3 years ago. I'd love to have a more naturally-aerated soil like yours!

@@Lawnspiration you have to trust the process. I used products like NEXT Aerate, JG love your soil. They tend to feed the microbes and worms. Then I use Earthworks Sea 3 to cut down and eliminate the worm castings. I also feed my soil with products such as NEXT RGS and Humic acid with some cytogrow. My lawn is 12000 sq feet and my neighbors ask me how I do it, I tell them trust the process. Whenever u use mechanical aeration after a while the holes close and you have to repeat the process. For me feeding the microbes and worms is a better option.

@@maggarlion No product will accomplish what core aeration does. Those products are great and if it works for your soil thats great. However, no product will physically open the lawn up and allow oxygen and nutrients to penetrate down into the soil. By removing the plugs, and the holes closing up, you’ve accomplished what core aeration is for. As the soil around the holes fills them in, it’s all becoming less dense and compacted, this is why you core aerate.

Thanks! This lawn has a mix of Barenbrug RPR (perennial ryegrass) and Ryan Knorr's elite PRG. I think next autumn, I'll do a major renovation and try Kentucky Bluegrass (KBG), probably by Barenbrug again, or I might try an elite cultivar from Twin City Seed.

I liked the video! Well said. Additional benefits to aeration according to some university papers is it can help with thatch buildup (for that year at least) and can reduce leaf spot.
