My mum and dad had a holiday booked to Phuket, I was to go with them. A few weeks before we went my mums uncle died and his funeral was during the time our holiday was. We cancelled the holiday. We would’ve arrived December 23rd 2004 and we had a room booked on one of the beaches most badly affected. Still haunts me that but for the death of a family member I, my mum and dad would all likely be dead.

It’s obvious something isn’t right by the way the tide starts quickly moving backward and forth. That’s the point they should start running. Not stupidly Grabbing their items and moving their chairs back. It’s not difficult. Anyone who’s ever been down the beach should know how tides work.

We left Chennai on 24th december 2004 .We used to stroll on the beach every morning.Have thought about all the "ifs" that could have happened if we stayed two more days.

You can see the water quickly recede behind him, then the water begins to come in small, to huge waves.

I’m shocked he stood there on the beach having a joke…..when a normally calm ocean is behaving like that it’s a warning that something is very wrong. I don’t say that as a “know it all” I say it as a someone who was obsessed with the science of Tsunamis when I was at school so I learned everything about them. Stay safe
