Excellent video! Very helpful for differentiating these peeps. Thank you for the upload
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

I have redhead, eastern, and downy on my feeders all summer. And as my hummingbirds are already becoming sparse in late August here in Massachusetts, I continue to enjoy the woodpecker’s going from suet cakes I make to the sugar water. Just a hint if you make your own suet cakes, I buy the freeze dried fly larvae from Amazon, and sub it into the recipe. They rehydrate a bit in the melting lard, and EVERYONE loves these cakes
Thanks for the tip on suet!
Excellent video! 👏🏽👍🏽🙏🏽🤙🏽
Thanks, Lance! Tomorrow (August 25th) is the follow up video on separating Least, Western and Semipalmated.
I heard one today that ive never heard before...the only way i can describe it is someone blowing one of those cheap plastic kids whistles in 3 short bursts... I know it was a bird because i saw him/her fly and the sound was farther away with the bird...
There is a free app called Merlin. It identifies bird calls in real time as picked up by your phone. Won’t help with birds you heard in the past, but wonderful for identifying birds in your yard or on a walk!
I saw the Eurasia Collared dove today. 😊
Wonderful!
🐦Informative 😊
Thanks!
They way you just threw shade at some of these 😂
I'd love to see the Veery Thrush on here. I first heard its call while camping, and it sounded so mechanical
🐦 Red-winged Blackbird ❤
Cute bird 🐦😊
I have hummingbird feeders here in Barstow, and the other day, a beautiful hooded oriole was at the one outside my kitchen window. I have seen many different birds at the hummingbird feeder. My wife thought I was nuts until the yellow oriole came back and she saw him, LOL. We get a lot of different birds passing through here -it's amazing...
Sounds wonderful! I get Gila woodpeckers, verdin, and bullock’s and hooded orioles at my feeders, in addition to hummingbirds.

Another interesting fact about California Towhees. When I owned land up in Anza California and started planting my garden, I discovered it was the Towhess who were hopping down the furrows and digging out my Sweet Corn seeds. They would wait for the first pin shaped leaves to break the surface and somehow understood that a sweet juicy kernel was below. I was always so bugged at them for that. 🙄🤣
Sounds like my last gardening attempt… but with crows as the villain!
❤
Thanks, Tiphanie. I have a dozen more backyard birds and state backyard birds saved up that I decided to put out daily. I was saving them two per month. Changed my mind. I’m going to do more in depth identification and species facts going forward. Hope that my videos continue to bring you joy!
Love it ❤
Most you can find in Washington state also.. i haven't seen the oat Timouse. ❤
The nearest Oak Titmice to you in are in Roseburg / Medford, Oregon.
@@absorbed-in-nature thank you ❤️
Cute little birds!
❤
Thank you!
He just saw the cameraman and it was way too much and had to let go.
So true. I do the same when I look in the mirror each morning! 😂
Missing: White Breasted Nuthatch. These regular visitors at our Sunflower seed feeder are most enjoyable to watch feeding upside-down on a nearby tree as well as the feeder.
Aren’t they wonderful!
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, just found out my binoculars is damaged. I have come full adjustment and still have double vision.
Glad I could help… but sorry your binoculars are damaged.
Awesome
I saw this yesterday and was shocked. They love the suet I put out, but I guess they want something sweet. Thank you for the video.
You are welcome. The woodpeckers drink a lot more than the hummingbirds!
I’ve had nesting Phoebes at my house for years now. They used to nest under the eve of my front stoop, but we closed that in and they moved to under the eaves of my screen porch. One of them sits on the railing of my deck for hours, flicking its tail and giving its little chip call. I can’t really tell if there are eggs or nestlings in the nest, but one year when they nested on my front stoop I was standing there when the babies fledged. Quite an experience to have that explosion of wings over my head and watch them take off for nearby trees! I really enjoyed your informative video.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Aimee! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice ❤
Thanks!
Excellent video, almost certain I saw a Wilson's Warbler earlier, this really helped.
Good to hear!
Kayaking is great for seeing soras & virginia rails & chicks. Great tips
What’s the bird that makes the first call of the video? Gets higher as it goes?
That beautiful song is Swainson’s Thrush. To hear more watch my video on most beautiful bird songs from a couple months back.
I heard one that sounded like something from a zoo I can't find it either
Thank you for this absorbed-in-nature, I want to take a friend to see the Caracara. I've hiked through Arizona southern border towns for 66 yrs and I have never had a problem. Camped out with my family on Ruby Rd. for years only to find out later that a jaguar study was in the area. The only incident I had was when I was walking in the dark around midnight looking for Scolpendera polymorpha centipedes and vinegaroons. I suddenly found myself surrounded by Border patrol and a helicopter lit up the area like it was daylight. I didn't have my ID with me but I showed them my plastic critter box with a centipede and they let me go on my way. Seen far more Border patrol than human coyotes in my favorite middle of nowhere AZ. Sonoran Desert has always been my home.😊
❤❤
I always remember black-capped chickadees by how they say "cheeeeese burger" lol
A pair of Eastern Phoebes has built a nest atop my porch light and just below the ceiling. Its covered with moss. They are attentive and protective of their nest but do light fairly close to me if I'm still. One of them hovered monentarily over my gate, reminding me of a hummingbird, but by rapidly pumping the tail rather than wings.
Wonderful!
I love this channel ❤
Thank you @TiphanieBirdingNW !

Yes! Or turkey vultures which are silent in the air.
well hi, first time the creator of a video has gave my comment a heart or reply
The green heron flies slower than other Bird. The others drop all the conditions around the feet of the heron. The heron has evolved taking small careful steps because it attracts bugs who pelt, divebomb and cause raining things atop the head of its deep social network. Once the heron is accused, the alarms are triggered and the fish hurts on its way down to the belly. Then the meat sours in the big bird family and it wrecks the nerves it takes to wade in mucky shallow water where unseen things squiggle, doing god knows what from deep space bog underneath
Ok. I’m officially confused.
Best video to identify birds at my feeders
I can't tell the difference between lesser black-backed gulls and yellow-legged gulls. Im trying to find figure out if there's any distinct differences to tell them apart.
I hope you get some useful identification differences after watching the video.
@@absorbed-in-nature Your video helped alot with the lesser black-backed gull, and i just done some research on the other ones. Thanks.
Beautiful footage, and thanks for the tips! We've been hearing a sora in the reeds of a pond near the house and are planning on going out at dawn some weekends to see if we can spot it. Wish us luck!
Thanks for the praise. Often takes patience as they hide. Then again, sometimes they pay people no mind and come right out in the open.
Thanks! I have a Hutton's vireo nest right outside of my door. This video helped to confirm my suspicions
I get a lot of Cardinals, Morning Doves, and Sparrows at my feeder in northern Kentucky. Occasionally a Grackle will come as well.
Thanks! Just getting into bird watching, very helpful!
Wonderful Peter! Please let me know what would be helpful to you for future videos.
👍 I live in Seattle, and the house sparrow is the most common bird in my neighborhood. They will eat from my hand if I don't look directly at them. Thanks for helping me find their name. Now I can do a little more research.❤
Very cool!
Thank you for this very helpful video! I have also struggled to distinguish between the two. I didn't know that about the slope of the head and bill, and the "surprised parakeet" appearance is something I'll definitely keep in mind.
When I teach others, I always learn something myself!
Thank you very much for your amazing informative video sir 😊
Thank you so much!
Thanks for your very informative video! We saw a new bird on our feeder this morning, with yellow, black, and white on it. We inedtified it through your video as an American Goldfinch! 🙂 Thanks again, and remember, God who made nature and birds, loves you! Soo, you love and obey Him too! 🙂🙂🙂
I’m so glad that I was able to help you identify your first goldfinch!
I have tiny brown birds (smaller then the birds in this video) that eat the worms from a moth that lay their eggs on the underside of oak leaves ( N. California/Central coast) Do you have an idea what they may be? They move in groups of 3 to 5 or more around the tree.
Oak Titmouse and Bushtit are gray-brown, tiny, would eat larvae and are very common on the California coast. Probably bushtit as they travel in straggling flocks most of the year.
