A number of these women flew bombers for delivery, alone. Bombers that pilots flew with the help of engineers and navigators. Sometimes, the bombers had kinks not noticed in the factories, sometimes, they flew damaged planes back to factories, to be repaired. Some failed in flight. A number of these women, (and failed medical for frontline flying), male pilots died performing this vital service. One married couple both died in service, leaving behind a baby less than a year old. Margie and Douglas Fairwether. He told her he loved her more than any dog he ever owned. Huge character, like an affectionate, chubby labrador, . Margie was quiet and pretty serious, nicknamed Cold Front...
