I agree hundred percent. Most of these Bushcraft folks that do the batoning, are making nice perfect pieces of firewood and then they are using that to power the fire fore their outdoor cooking show where they makeca gourmet meal. Aint no real camping. What happened to the guys like me that went camping and carried a hatchet and a buck knife and opened a can of beans with it.

His perception of a bushcraft knife is different from mine. I don't have a "Bushcraft" knife but the ones I've seen look nothing like his example. So I have no faith in what he said.

Jim bowie. Had a large butcher knife he broke the end off battaning fire wood. He had a black Smith fix it because it saved his life. That is how the clip point was invented. He basically broke a chip out off the top of his blade. The Smith just ground it smooth. After that is when all his famous stabbings started.

It's not generallly an "either or" issue. Pick the ax for the task at hand. Each was designed for its specific range of use. So you're argument isn't really an issue. Besides, a 3/4s ax (cutely but unfortunrately nicknamed "boys ax") is historically one of the most widely commissioned axes of the US Forestry Dept (who knows a good deal about trees and chopping). Finally, when you're talking "production" work, why aren't you using a chainsaw and wood splitter?
