Vagabond (1985) Mona and the Dropouts
Clip from the 1985 Agnès Varda's multiple award winning film "Vagabond". Mona, (Sandrine Bonnaire) a young and defiant drifter wanders onto the property of a young family of goat farmers who are living life by a similar philosophy but settled. The farmer reveals his own experience with living a rule free, vagrant lifestyle and how he sees it will only end tragically for Mona. "With No Roof and No Law" is the translation of the original French title.

This is a song I love by Donald Rubinstein from his "Scars and Dreams" album though I originally saw him perform it for the 1981 George Romero film Knightriders. The footage was taken at Welwyn Preserve in Glen Cove, New York on an early May day.

From the 1987 gem of a movie "Housekeeping" directed by Bill Forsyth based on Marilynne Robinson's Pulitzer Prize nominated fiction novel published in 1980. As in the novel, Ruth (Sara Walker) narrates the unfolding events of her and her younger sister Lucille's life under the care of their highly eccentric aunt Sylvie (Christine Lahti). In this scene aunt Sylvie takes Ruth in a borrowed (to th...

Two short scenes from George A. Romero's 1981 cult favorite film "Knightriders". Billy (Ed Harris) is King William, leader of a traveling renaissance fair troupe with motorcycle jousting as it's main attraction. Some members of the troupe like Billy and Merlin (Brother Blue - born as Hugh Morgan Hill) believe in and live by Arthurian legend magic, honor and codes of conduct. Billy is plagued by...

Tom Waits and Jack Nicholson in scenes from 1987's "Ironweed" directed by Hector Babenco and based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel by William Kennedy. As a teen I had already been enjoying Tom Waits music and I loved his acting in Ironweed which is my all time favorite film.

1:07 - 1:11 I truly believe he allowed the black bird to get him. It was such a sad ending
Graeme Obree is a total legend and genius....even to this day Boardman and Lamond still praise his exploits and achievements
I love the movie, the novel and the beautiful soundtrack. A hidden gem and highly recommend it all. Can so relate to my own life with a mother with severe mental health issues who survived a heart breaking for me suicide attempt but who was also loving and beautiful and unique. My sister and I were raised by our maternal grandmother and her second husband who I loved and called poppa and both were amazing albeit flawed people but I miss them all! What a beautiful movie and novel though! I'm Ruthie so much so with sadness and yet joy in just being alive as have survived several suicide attempts myself now but want to live and help others in pain.
This film is so underrated.
To do that after the previous attempt so soon is THE greatest athlecic achievement EVER! :)
Tom should have been nominated for best supporting actor for this role. It was a tough call, however, due to the fact that Dafoe, Berenger, Caine, Hopper, & Elliot were in the category. I still believe that Dafoe should have won over Caine but Tom was robbed. The man is a genius.
This was the only pars construens of all Romero's production. It's truly poetic.
“That she has left some part of herself with me,” shows no care about Agnes, whether she will ever feel whole again
Xin loi, my boy!
*"mY OWN!!! pr!vate Agnes of God (Always) has left the building though"*
Now here is a man ie Tom Waits, who can pull the feelings out of anyone. He walks the edge of pain, anxiety uselessness, and being lost in a world with no feelings. His musical approach could make the ole' devil cry. His acting is better than most actors I have seen. Each one of us that enjoy Tom Waits have a little bit of him within us......
If anybody has the movie with the dubbed English audio, would you mind posting the UPC (12 digit number under bar code) so I can try to buy it? I've purchased two different Blu-Ray versions of this movie, and neither had it.
My favorite movie ❤️
A fine performer who enhances the quality of every production in which he is cast. He epitomizes the saying that there are no small roles, only small actors, and he fully enlarges every character he plays.
YOU, are the caretaker. You've always been the caretaker.
This scene hit me hard...
Tis a knights destiny to follow his king even to the mist of Avalon
It is absolutely amazing that those two wild doves came up to the bell at this scene and she was able to pick one up and release it. My god it makes me cry every time I watch this scene. The music, the song, the dove. Magical. Divine. She should have won the Oscar for this role. It’s such a shame she did not. One of the greatest mistakes in Oscar history.
This Is a Fantastic Movie. Just stumbled upon it.
People said to Tom Waits and Robbie Robertson, “You’re both such good actors, you should make more movies.” They replied that if the right scripts came along, they would say yes...but those offers didn’t happen.👎🏻
This movie is amazing, but I hadn't remembered how lovely, magical and unsettling the score is. It's by Michael Gibbs, and it's perfection.
Oh wow. Looks like Jack's line at 2:50 is probably the inspiration for the Tom Waits song "Everything you can think of is true"
Incredible film and performances. Tilly definitely should have won the Academy Award for her performance.
Waits was made for that part.
A truly great novel and movie. Few actors hold a candle to Nicholson and thank God for Tom Waits.
Tom Waits acts like he sings: wild but constrained, controlled by seemingly random. Wayward but direct. Convoluted but clarifying. Brilliant in other words~
Wonderfully put.
Merl reminds me of Laura mconel moran.
My ex lady friend.
I was very fortunate to know Brother Blue in his later years. He and his wife Ruth Edmunds Hill (who is still very much alive) were royalty in the Cambridge's art community.
That’s really awesome that you knew them both..and I know they were deeply, deeply respected in the art community. Well, Ruth did pass away since you posted this…but at 98 YEARS OLD! 💥 👊 pretty kick ass!

Who was the father of the baby?
God
@@lolitahansen1682 No.
I could be wrong, but my theory Is that the father is the older priest (less possible) or the younger one priest with dark hair. Why he told so aggressively to dr livingstone to quit the case? What other people from the church can know about the secret place?
this was a priest
The movie doesn't answer the question. More "What ifs . . . "

Actress Meg Tilly on her new CZcams channel (Megs Cozy Tea Time) talks about Agnes Of God & the final scene with the doves....it wasn't planned.
love her and her sister.
'A person who is bi-polar is just some one who woke and took someone else's medicine' ....That is a quote from a friend of mine who was diagnose being bi-polar. He was a good dude....and I miss that old guy.
For your information, there were many people diagnosed before the 1990s as "bipolar" who were not, but were afflicted instead with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The treatments for these very different conditions are themselves very different. To this day, I'm sure that a fair number of "bipolar" people have yet to be properly diagnosed with and treated for ADHD, after which many of their continuing appalling symptoms could be alleviated with correct treatment and medication. One important fact published in national news media decades ago is that a doctor must review at least ten years of a patient's mental health history to reach an accurate diagnosis of bipolar disorder; absent such professional due diligence, a bipolar diagnosis is suspect and a patient left in such circumstances should undergo a thorough reexamination by another psychiatrist for a second opinion either validating or ruling out the original diagnosis.
Loved this movie!! The music is spectacular!! The acting magnificent!! The story - I still ponder it to this day - - - - -
A very attractive man raped her and Agnes who hallucinated a lot confused him with God. To get the truth you have to pin the details together. Powerful movie
Great performances all round
everything Waits touches turns to gold!
Tom Waits song lyric ahoy: 2:52 _Everything You Can Think_ from _Alice_ , released in 2002 but written around 1992, so 5 years after this scene.
Good Movie. Never got the recognition it deserved.
The Movie critics couldn't stop talking about Meg Tilly's performance about how terrific her peformance is.

Tom Waits is a national treasure.not only a great singer and lyricist, but a very underrated character actor portraying obscure characters. The type of characters he would sing and write about in his songs which explains a lot.I'm probably one of the few people of color who is a fan of this man.
I am one of the few albino tom waits fans....we were strong in '98 but our numbers have dwindled.....perhaps we could combine forces?
I watched this 5 times on theater.Tom Waits in Ironweed is the best.
Barbie, was soooo, right. I, loved AGNES& felt sorry for her. Perhaps a field hand snuck into the Convents. MAY OUR GOD, bless your day! Thanks, for the look backwards!!!!!!
I seen this movie years and years ago and never forgot it. I think it is great.
Left out some of Tom's best parts - singing "Rock Candy Mountain" and talking about Sir Isaac Newton.
So feeling this scene. I help everyone, with problems and heartbreaks. But yet, i am lonely and have no one to help me.
You are not alone in feeling lonely.
