The grout I have for general use is from Cemix and is made here in NZ, so what availability is like in your neck of the woods, I've no idea! The colour itself is 'beige'. What colours are available depends on the brand and what a particular hardware store carries, so you might have to shop around. For example, for my Undead, I get a different colour, from a different brand, from a different store when compared to the usual 'beige' 🤣

Cheers Gyrion! It's all about finding the right parts! If you look closely at one of the units of Skeleton Spearmen in the last battle report, you'll see 3D printed "bodies" and plastic arms and skulls. Great way of padding out the skeleton kit!

Still pondering this one! The paint job is pretty much exactly the same as the Elf Infantry so I'd like to attack it from a different angle.

I agree. They did not even give us a single cape-less body. I will still buy the kit, but mainly for the heads and arms.

They're supposed to be a dual kit with rangers, hence the capes/ cloaks. Problem is, I think the capes are too short for ranger cloaks and look silly on militia, so nobody is happy. Not having any would have been better. Just sell a sprue of closks separately, they'd be a hit.

@@breandan3280 separate capes would have been the best option. And we know they can do it because the elf cavalry sprue has a separate cape.

Yeah, they're a real point of contention. I've got mixed thoughts about the whole cloak thing. I prefer the sculpted on cloaks rather than separate ones. I find that separate ones tend to fall awkwardly and the sculpted ones wrap the figure in a much nicer way. But the flip side of that is if I really wanted cloaks and the figures don't have them (or they are separate), I can sculpt them on myself. The biggest issue I have with the cloaks (and it's very picky) is that they make attaching the quiver for archers a pain. Not a major issue, but enough to be a pain. Ultimately, I like them, but it would be nice if not all the figures had them.

Cheers GG! I thought they were pretty close scale wise. A little finer, but then they are not wearing thick clothing and armour of the regular Infantry. But you're right, 3D printing gives wargamers loads of options, with more and more appearing every day. The trick is then finding the right options!

Yes and no. The wolves have thick fur around their neck and shoulders which will pick up drybrushing really well, but most of the models are quite smooth so there isn't really any texture for the drybrush to pick up. It can definitely work, but it's not ideal conditions.

@@AshandStoneNZ Hmm. When painting grass or fur (on flat paper) I typically use a fan brush with just a little fairly thick paint on the tips. You end up with lots of little tiny lines. I bet you could get a similar effect for fur on miniatures, though I haven't tried it yet.

@elizabethmilward8301 That ought to work, though you might have to adjust your technique as you move around a 3D object to keep things consistent. I've seen others paint in the fur texture with a fine brush, but I think that would drive me a little mad :D

@@AshandStoneNZ The single tiny strokes of a tiny brush would drive me nuts too. As you say, I'd need to experiment since a fan brush like I'd typically use is too big to reach many parts of a miniature.

@elizabethmilward8301 You might find that you can do the bulk of it with your standard fan brush and then hit the hard to reach spots with a smaller brush afterwards. Worth a try anyway!

@@AshandStoneNZ I need to buy putty and buildable minis (rather than the 1 piece whiz kids ones I've been learning mini painting on) first. Next project! I think I'll probably do Silmarillion (1st age middle earth) Oathmark figures. Get something that actually matches the books, not movie middle earth.

Oh nice one! That will be a good project! There's quite a few people on the Wargaming in Middle Earth Facebook group that are using the Oathmark Elves for their Silmarillion projects, so it seems like they could be a good base. And they are easy to paint so that's a bonus!

It's a good way to flex and test out my vocabulary muscles a little! The failures are probably my part to narrate because oftentimes there is no good or obvious reason for a unit to fail a particular roll. So being able to find a way to link that to other events on the table is great fun and helps to make things cohesive. Thanks again and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos so much!

Yes! Although I have used 3D printed peasant bodies from Wargames Atlantic on half of them and used custom shields.

@@AshandStoneNZ Understandable. Could you tell me more about the heater shield with Boss. I heard that when early Kite Shields had a Boss, this was an anachronism, this idea blew my mind. So seeing a Heater shield with Boss is great fantasy IMO.

I'm certainly no expert, but my understanding was that early kite shields, at least those used by the Normans and Anglo-Saxons, have bosses mostly as a sort of hang on from earlier round designs. It was either because "shields are supposed to have bosses" and so they put them on, or they had a particular use in they way they were used in combat in the period that fell away shortly after. So with that in mind, I wanted to lean toward kite shields for my Human Cavalry, as being wealthier, they would have greater access to the latest and greatest. I figure in universe, it's the elven influence. The elves have pointy shields, so we will give that a go, but it's not a shield without a boss. It keeps them unified stylistically with the rest of the Humans, but also gives me a bit more variety in the ranks. For the Militia, I wanted them to look older and more haphazard than the standard Soldiers. So I designed shields that were a kind of transition between earlier round designs and the large broad rectangular shields that the Soldiers use. So they are a little bit smaller, a little bit rounder and a little bit experimental. But they all have that unifying boss. Some of the shields are unfinished; either unpainted, or with no rim applied. Perhaps they were hurriedly put together, Grandad knocking up a shield like he used in youth, or perhaps they have just been sitting in the rafters, unused and unfinished for a few decades. I didn't use the ones on the frames as they are very tattered and I thought they would actually look a lot better on some skeletons.... But that's a future project!

I've never played that. I did play the sequel (?) Dark Omen though. I'd say Warcraft has been the big influence on me there!

Welp, that ended poorly for the Guard. That conversation at the end has me realizing that Hex was, and sadly still is, a slave to the undeath. His betrayal to Moxis is a tragedy, especially since (unless I miss my guess) Moxis was trying to keep the greater Undead from awakening (granted he was still trying to rise to his own level of evil power). Perhaps my opinion of him may change, especially if he goes through a story arc like Theon Greyjoy.

That's fair! Though I am hoping his actions will lead to better luck for the Undead. We'll see how the dice play out!
