Did you get any further with it? If you want to use an audio shield, the official one that's meant to piggy back on the Teensy is probably the best choice because it keeps the signal wires as short as possible. I was able to use one with a Teensy 4.1 which I'd already soldered pins to, by using long header pins on the shield so they could spread out another 0.1" either side, to go into a breadboard. I only got as far as producing basic waveforms with the provided library, and added a fixed (adjustable in code) amplitude envelope to soften the edges. I then made it into a pseudo random tone generator similar to the Electro Harmonix RTG, just to test it out more.
it's nice that you show how you unpack and connect the new device, because we can see that it works "plug and play" immediately.
at last this fiendish device is starting to make sense. I understood all of that. Most helpful thanks.
I guess by now you probably know that there is a Bluetooth version of the korg keyboard and a ble to midi adapter to connect to the back of the Roland MC101 that simplifies the setup considerably! Nice to see the size comparison. Thanks for your video!
Thanks a lot for this! For the life of me I cannot find how to save a new instrument I’ve created from initial sound using the synth engine??? I can only save whole projects. Do I have to do like you: saving projects and using the clip from this project to import the instrument for use? I cannot even name my new Instrument?
Great video!!!
Mil gracias ❤ thanks a lot
I'm here for the leaf blowers

Hello Great video, can use that usb mid host to connect a Volca keys with an Akai LPK 25? Thanks
Volca’s only do midi out, so as long as you want the volca to send midi to your Akai, then yes it will work, but you can’t use your akai to send midi to the volca coz it doesn’t have midi in.
Thank you for this vídeo !!! I am looking for a module that i dont need a midi host or laptop. I have a usb controler and i would like to uses without laptop , . It exists some Roland sounds module with usb midi host ? Thank you
Are you.useing a pc
No check of Pitch and ModWheel ? My Komplete Kontrol S61 Sends no Pitch and ModWheel messages to the MC 101. ✌🏼
I am watching and I'm not your dad, thanks not my son.
Wouldn't a OTG USB cable be enough to solve this issue? It's a small adapter that looks like a regular USB connector but it designates the device you plug it into as the host.
Only if the device you are plugging the cable into supports OTG. I looked up the MC-101 and it doesn't seem to support OTG. In addition is uses a USB type B connector which is not capable of supporting OTG (as it is missing the additional signaling pin that Micro and Mini USB have or the control channel that USB-C uses)
this was helpfull. thanks
Did aum pickedup the coreect tempo or you have to adjust it
how do you change the bass sound?
This has saved me hours of head scratching, but i wonder where you got this one as i cant seem to find it? 😁
is aum for mastering your final project?
Your dad better start spending more time with your mother and not with silly toys or else Tyrone may start slippering her _his_ Dark Photon on the sly. Be careful out there.
I'm also not your Dad, but even so, clean your room, get a haircut.... ;) Good video BTW
Hello! It's pretty impressive for such a micro-computer! I'm wondering - is it possible to assemble the equal setup using Raspberry Pi Pico + some IO + memory modules + encoder HAT? Or it certainly need a full Raspberry? I'm going to order one tomorrow so it's a kind of dilemma to me. I would like to have more "ready-to-use" setups in parallel but I don't have enough money to spend on full Pi's. Also I've heard (not my info) that encoders works better on Pico. The person did mentioned that a full Pi can skip encoder's steps because of CPU load.
Ver very useful. Why do apple make everything so awkward
I always ask this question
I have a mpc key 61, a Yamaha motif and s90 and all have midi in/out.. do I still need a usb midi host for any of my workstations to control the mc101? I’ve tried the key 61 and the s90 so far with no luck..
you can also do this by setting the steps to be triplets: 1. shift-measure to get to the settings 2. change step length to 12 3. change scale to 1/8T (triplets) 4. put hats on all 12 steps (3 triplet, 3 triplet, 3 triplet, 3 triplet) 5. put kick on steps 1, 4, 7, 10. press play and should sound like he has it in video. to verify, you can also create an additional drum track (for example on track 2) with default settings (step length 16, 1/16 notes) and then put a kick on steps 1, 5, 9, 13. and now when you hit play, the kicks on track 2 should match up with the kicks on the triplet track 1. additional note about drum rolls (also can do triplet rolls this way): check out sub-steps aka note repeats. look at the menu for each note (in SEQ mode, shift->step number) you'll see a menu: VEL, STA, MTE, SUB. so you can change SUB to off, 1/2, 1/3, etc using the c4 knob. alternate way to do this is when you're in SEQ mode, to press SEQ button then press step number and you'll see the note change from red to a shade of pink, depending on your SUB value. this determines how many times within each step the note will repeat. so 1/2 will trigger the note twice in each step, 1/3 will trigger the note three times in each step, etc. so for example, each step by default is a 1/16th note.. let's say I change the last 8 steps to be SUB 1/2. so this will make a 1/32 roll.
Thankk u so much

good video friend is what I was looking for now my problem is where to buy it and how what is the device called?
Thanks for sharing! 💯
Nice video. FLSM is generally hated by iPad musician community, mainly because of not having auv3. But I like it's interface and workflow, it gets the job done most efficiently compared to garageband or cubasis or bm3. And though there is no auv3, but is possible to import dwp instruments, tons freely available in internet.
Nice! Congratulations Cheers. :)
Thanks
Can I connect the roland 101 to an akai mini mk3 (with a usb host of course) and a boss rc500 loop at the same time?
Pretty cool... question though... Or maybe you could just explain. When the clip is set to 1/16T in the scale mode...what the heck happens to the pads? Why are there now white and pink pads that don't allow input and the 1/16T pattern extends 2 pages...and note/beat input is limited? It completely brings me to a dead stop since I can't figure out just wth it's supposed to be...
I'm trying to figure this out myself. but basically when you change the scale to triplets. say 1/8T then it only has 12 steps (3 triplets, 3 triplets, 3 triplets, 3 triplets) and that's why the last 4 steps are in pink -- you can't use them. the reason why there's two pages is because you've set it to more than 12 steps. so after you change the scale to triplet time, make sure you also change the step length to 12 and that way you'll only have one page.
@@ShaiUI thanks, that helps!
@@BendApparatus np, note that if you have 1/16 triplets then you'll need 24 steps (6 triplets, 6 triplets, 6 triplets, 6 triplets). so then it'll span 2 pages. also check out my comment on triplets that I left on this video. it explains how to go about it in more detail.
@@ShaiUI checked it out... whew... That's quite a bit of info... I put the 101 down for a bit to concentrate on the Model:Samples...it started when I lost around 11 to 12 beats I'd been working on for about 3 months (on the samples) It's my 1st Elektron device and I had no idea how their save file system worked... Ended up accidentally loading a new project and losing all that work because it had never been saved to an actual project it was just floating in the units temporary memory... That really really disheartened me... But I figured that before deciding to get rid of it I would give it another shot... So the 101 kind of took a back seat... Honestly I'm not even sure if I made the correct choice since I had been making quite a bit of headway into the deepness of the 101...🤦🏻♂️
@@BendApparatus I got the elektron digitakt as well. the mc-101 is just my "throw-in-the-bag-portable" device I bring with me whenever I need a quick drum machine. regardless, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these types of machines. they're really deep and fun to learn. also it's good to have mc-101 as a desktop synth.
This is so great! Should be part of the new Monkey Island soudtrack ;)
Amazing stuff. This really shows how many people waste this machine with bland electronic music. Love the ambience and timbres. 🥰
Will this run on a pi B ? Whats the minimum pi version?
Great video, very interesting project. I have also watched the other video you made on Lots Of Post and just ordered the board. keep posting!
The Korg micro keys midi channel can be changed through computer driver. It remembers the channel with power cycle. You can go back to channel one with recalling factory settings but you need a pc to change channel 1 again.
It’s so small, I feel another impulsive purchase coming on
👍🏻🎹
Wow!, (2:05) that sounds just like the KAWAI traditional metronome I have.
(At 4:19), you said Organ and I was expecting an Organ Sound, then I fell off the chair when I heard the drum, nice experiment. SUBBED. I want to get MC101 but it does not have Bluetooth MIDI can not match with my BT MIDI Sax.
For what it's worth, they make a Bluetooth midi cable set-up. One cable is short and has a 5 pin connector on each end. Then, and I'm saying this off the top of my head, there's another midi cable that plugs into the midi compatible instrument you want to pair with. They are on Amazon and are like 60 or 70 bucks (again, off the top of my head). Hope this helps.
I use this with my Korg NANOKEY studio ----CME WIDI Master - Bluetooth (5) MIDI Adapter for 5-PIN DIN MIDI - No Battery, Powered via MIDI Out Works like a charm!
what about cc messages (no notes)
Success!
are you not having latency problem?
Do you recommend mid box or mixer or audio interface? Love from Turkey.
I’m curious to give it a listen, whilst sending my signal through a LittleBits Direct Inject (or impedance matching transformer) module that you have incentivized me to create! This is a really great observation that you have pointed out, the modulation source through the microphone bit will be reflected in the audio’s amplitude through the output. I was just asking myself how to make this happen just the other week!! Thanks again, great work!!
Great .... this is exactly what I've been looking for. I've got a couple of old Raspi's hanging around, ready to be turned into synths. I wasn't sure if PD would run on them, but this sounds great.
