David Ezzy speaks about the Ezzy Flight Wing
Ezzy Sails has been a leading force in windsurfing sail development and manufacturing for over 40 years.
Now we take our experience, as well as our extreme product quality and put it into wings. The Ezzy Flight wing grew out of extensive R&D done in the Canary Islands by José Fernandez (Flight Sails) and on Maui by David Ezzy (Ezzy Sails). Having such perfect testing venues has enabled José and David to develop a wing that not only performs beautifully, but is also strong and durable.
Production is done in our very own factory, located in Sri Lanka.This is the same factory we produce our windsurfing sails and that David Ezzy started over 30 years ago. Owning our own factory is a critical reason why we are able to achieve the degree of quality we need for wings.

Graham Ezzy shares his knowledge on how to set up a windsurfing wave board for optimal riding: 1. For wave sailing, make straps tigh on the sides and loose on the top. 2. Set straps at least 18in/45.7cm apart. A wide stance provides balance and power. 3. Test to find your preferences.

    Thank you, Ezzy windsurf sails have such a great reputation that I was very interested to see what an Ezzy wing would look like. There's a few folks at my local spot who have them and they are very happy with them. Definitely a front runner for the next time I need to buy a wing. Cheers!

    What’s your view on having a clear window panel on the wing. Some manufacturers have a window but does this weaken the wing structure?

    • @ezzysailswindsurfing4046
      @ezzysailswindsurfing4046 Před 6 dny

      at this time, we found the window wasn't really practical on our design. David is always tinkering....so durability would be a big factor in the R&D.

      we've liked this design since the beginning in 2000. The top and bottom are equal lengths. We also like the furrule on the top pointing down. If the ferrule points up and into the smaller and smaller top section, the likelihood of the masts getting stuck together due to sand increases.

    Thanks for the excellent explanation Graham. I have one small question. You mentioned that the outhaul depends on the height of the boom (standard in the middle) which is new for me. Does that mean that I shoud check the outhaul when I change the height of the boom during a session? And is that the reason you leave 1 cm for adjustment purposes?

    • @ezzysailswindsurfing4046
      @ezzysailswindsurfing4046 Před 6 měsíci

      Hi! The distance is not the same from the eye of the clew to the different parts of the boom cut out. So, if you change your boom height, you will also change the outhaul in doing so. Therefore, yes, you should check your outhaul if you adjust your boom height. However, if you adjust the height by 1 or 2cm, it won't have much effect on the outhaul. I leave 1cm so that I can pull a little more outhaul on the water without having to extend the boom.

    Excellent video. I just purchased a Legacy 6.5 with a GT C60 RDM 430 mast and Aeron skinny extension. Is it typical that a downhaul tool is needed to get the proper “bend” in the mast? …or am I just weak! Using the proper extension length according to the sail guide, the pulleys on the sail are still quite a way from the bottom of the mast so obviously I can pull much more, but not by hand! I have read that this can be difficult without a tool but some videos seem to do the downhaul by hand without too much difficulty. Since I am new to rigging, I don’t want to damage anything. Do I just pull much harder using a tool for leverage after making sure the mast is properly inserted? Thanks for any advice!

    • @ezzysailswindsurfing4046
      @ezzysailswindsurfing4046 Před 2 lety

      thank you for the message Lou. FYI, in the future you will get quicker service by contacting us directly via email. You may be having struggles with downhaul if your line is creating excess friction due to improper threading. Otherwise, many people do rely upon the downhaul tool or using a foot or other object as a tool to wrap your line around for leverage. It shouldn't be too difficult to get close. You might consult with your local dealer or community for in-person help

  • @russellscott1151
    @russellscott1151 Před 2 lety

    How do you recommend neatening up the excess outhaul line? Some sails like Goya leave a bit of the tensioned line between sail and end of boom exposed then wrap the line about that so that the spring tension of the multiple outhaul lines keeps the excess in place. On this design the sail is taken right to the end of the boom.

  • @davidhmws
    @davidhmws Před 2 lety

    From my understanding, the outhaul strings represent the correct "base" setting for the min, medium, and max downhaul settings. However, within each downhaul setting, it appears that you recommend maybe 1 cm outhaul adjustment to further fine-tune the power. Could you comment further on the limits of outhaul adjustment for a given fixed downhaul setting?

    • @GrahamEzzy
      @GrahamEzzy Před 2 lety

      The strings work for a given downhaul setting. When you change the downhaul, you change the mast bend, which changes the distance from the strings to the end of the boom. Does that make sense? So, the strings are always a good guide for the given downhaul.

    What are the recommendations for keeping the sail rigged for a while (a few months)? For example, should I massively loosen the outhaul/downhual or keep everything at full tension?

    • @GrahamEzzy
      @GrahamEzzy Před 2 lety

      This is a good question. Sails and masts are not designed to be rigged for extended periods of time. To reduce the amount of wear on the gear, you definitely want to release the tension. Also, consider rotating your mast 90 degrees every week to help keep it straight.

    Thanks a lot. Very detailed tutorial, it’s very appreciated Anyway maybe I’m rigging my Elite sails 2018’ and 19’ with some mistakes. My problem is that the sails if are rigged with medium wind measurements printed (with Ezzy masts) they have a lot of shape/draft (the sail draft extends up to the harness lines affecting to upwind and speed performance offering too much power. Maybe the problem is that I don’t apply enough tension to the outhaul cords.
