Looking at getting one of these of a Kranzle K10 for washing the car. The K10 is the 1152 without the frame/hose reel.
The 1050 is great for the car. I use it on the underside and all over with a snow foam gun! 👍
Thanks for the video. Not seen any reference before to these - which really are useful to know about.
Knipex has flat pliers that work like a ratchet/plier. They are genious
They cost an arm and a leg
Should these go on the bottom, top or sides of a BG outdoor socket? Don't want to drill a "drain hole" Thanks
I always prefer to have holes in the bottom but some of these work in any position. Always check the manufacturers instructions! 👍
Looking to get this too
Still like mine a lot. Not put a foot wrong since we bought it! 👍
Still like ours a lot. Not had any issues since we bought it.
Are these wires used for fire proofing then?
Nope, also explosive atmospheres and heritage properties where theres valuables and a risk of loss of assets due to fire.
@@richardemery6690 oh I see to guarantee no sparks, thanks
Push the tip caps right down and should work without taking them off
What is the white stuff on the cable?
Its aluminium oxide I believe
@@richardemery6690 cool thanks glad it’s not asbestos
Nice bit of kit, but you do realise that TIS is part of UNI-T . And all theses things come out of the same factory in chenzhen China as do most of our MFTs and all of our power tools except Mikita and Hilti
I will use these to convert ko box to fit old mk 4 screw sockets
I will use these to convert ko box to fit old mk 4 screw sockets
As a spark, these are good "when they work", you can see the issues getting a flat surface in a workshop, this is 10 times harder in a working environment with the box sunk well into the wall and a load of overlapping tiles, if the surfaces isn't totally flat the two parts of the clip come apart, which happens to me more often than not. It would help if the fold over lips which hold them together were more substantial
Each broken lug has its own challenges as you say, but having them in my tool box and test kit gives me repair options that I didn’t have before. Changing a box out is even harder! 🤷🏼♂️
Just bought this book, first thing I looked for was aluminium conductors and there coding, bearing in mind they are from the 70s and quite dangerous for a number of reasons- guess what! No mention..not that I can see anyway..useless
Thanks for your comment. Please bear in mind that you can still buy aluminium cables so the conductor type in its self is not the issue. The condition of the cable, its suitability and its likely safe service life are all covered elsewhere. This book is a starting point not a bible so I just make additional notes where I find it doesn’t cover exactly what I want.
Look good .
Certainly worth a pack or two in the tool box just in case! A broken lug can ruin your day!! 👍
Thanks that was a useful review. I was going to buy this on the grounds that I currently have a megger multimeter and proving unit. I'll be using it as a gas engineer to test Central heating systems are dead, so nothing elaborative. This is about £60-70 on ebay and that seems quite pricey. Any suggestion would be really helpful. Regards
£60-70 is the lower mid-range for a good Voltage Indicator, you will have to look at companies like TIS for a budget bottom end VI, but most places look to Martindale VI and Drummond MTL as benchmarks but at a higher price. If Megger is your thing and your happy with Ebay just make sure the item is marked as ‘new’ as too many stolen tools appear on auction sites.
TIS aunt budget prised . But they are not over priced like Megger with megger and fluke your paying for the name , look at all the other models they are all the same why , because they all come from the same factory in China that’s why .. I have the TIS 851 that has its own built in proving unit . £45 on Amazon. And it just as good as Megger or any other brand.
Do you put it on the L and N
Totally depends what your testing for but on a single phase supply L-N, L-E and N-E would be a good start in proving dead.
Good review, I'm not a sparky but where I work these get broken now and again and they are indeed a nightmare when they fuck up! Thanks
I got my 851 tester today, same problem with the battery cover, they should improve the cover, it’s a good device for the price,
Are you sure you were measuring DC there? It's easy to get into that Megger and the little circuit board is very accessible , a few small capacitors that can be replaced.
I got one those of a similar age, I get 490 volts out of it. Cranking really fast mind.
Never even seen one before thanks
Excellent thanks mate
£50/£80 rip off The uni_t 16B is exactly the same but in red and costs £18.99
They all come out of the same factory in China that’s why mega kewtech ethos diolog uni-t are all the same just different colours and model numbers . As are the MFTs

Thanks for the detailed review Richard, I never knew these existed!
Nice comparison video 👍🏼 I didn’t rate the CK ones, they seemed to tear rather than cut, and the crimping facility is just a marketing ploy in my eyes, mine are now collecting dust and rust!
Nice demo 👍🏼 I’ve tried various automatic wire strippers over the years, and some do seem to chew the insulation, but I think it can also be down to the particular cable and temperature, most of the time I just use side cutters and pull on the CPC, unless it’s a short length in which case I just use a knife.
Nice video 👍🏼 I agree on all your views, it’s simple, affordable, I particularly like it’s robustness, I think it wins over the Drummond range on that point as I’ve broken a couple of the white hard plastic tops on the older Drummonds. The down side is it’s lack of brightness in a well lit environment even at 400v. Cheers 👍🏼
Matt Lucas agreed, they could be at risk if they fall end on. I do like that most of these ranges of VIs do good spares replacement but not tried Martindale since taking over Drummond in 2004. Thanks for the support.
Hi Richard, curious, I love old testers, my father restored Telephones, Radios and Barometers. I have a couple of oldies but I really don't want to start collecting them. Love the Fluke but the T5-1000. Back in the UK I used the Steinel Voltcheck with a continuity button, loved that thing. Mark
9 Plus Instalaciones Yes, when I was in my apprenticeship the Steinel’s were what all the Sparks used. Wades and Eddies sold them in the trade counter. Still got a Volt-check and Combi-check in my collection. I love the old testers too. The innovations we see today as new were around 40,50,60,80 years ago! Great but of history, just need to get an older one now!! 😱
@@richardemery6690 yeah on the Steinels had a problem with the Cont. Button after sometime. It was such I great step to get that digi screen and know the exact voltage instead of a range of lights. Truly mesmerising stuff. We are probably around the same age group.
Looks like the Stanley one
9 Plus Instalaciones both strippers seem to appear with a number of different manufacturers badges on them! 👍
@@richardemery6690 The Age of mass rebranding. Kind of takes away a brands authenticity in my eyes.
Legend 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
I personally use side cutters and pull the earth/CPC back with a set of pliers or side cutters, and like you mentioned I've not yet seen any damage to the cable doing it that way. I have a pair of those QuickWire flat cutters I used them when I was installing downlights and mains powered smoke alarms, I've not seen any damage to the insulation when using them. I do like them but like you mentioned it might be tricky to get them into a knockout box to strip the cable and that's where the side cutters come into their own. I've just recently bought a set of CK side cutters with the stripper in the jaws and I've yet to use them, so I can't comment on their efficiency but I've seen people using them before and they rate them.
Bloody Side Cutters like we have for the last 150 years, but you knew I was gonna say that. Found you. Mark
9 Plus Instalaciones thing is, they just do the job!! 👍
@@richardemery6690 all the sizes as well.
Quite impressed with those flat strippers Richard, but if you need a pair of sidies to cut the cable to length you may as well use them to do the whole job. Ps cut towards your mate.
How the fuck do u get into the batteries
