    Imagine investing $50,000 over ten years, taking it out and only getting $57,000 after taxes 💀 All that effort deferring your comp and risking it in the market just so you can keep your original $50,000 + a little extra for your troubles lol. Definitely avoid taking it all out at once, opting for installments is best. Good video

    Just do this instead. If you are in your 20s, buy about 30 fund across Fidelity and Schwab. Then in your 30's buy more of one of the funds each year for the year. Every 30 year period the S&P 500 has never done worse than 9% since World War II. This will make sure you can sell your original investment and what it grew to plus the corresponding dividend and capital gain re-investments. The S&P 500 had an APY of over 10% from March 1979 to March 2009 and the same is also true from December 1944 to December 1974 and December 1972 to December 2002. You will never lose money that way.

    Is the 401k max out mandatory? Or can I still do this if I only contribute just over my employer match?

    • @AccessMariner
      @AccessMariner Před 4 měsíci

      Depending on your employer plan, you may be able to make after-tax contributions to then convert to Roth without first maxing out your regular contributions. But, the purpose of doing the mega back door contribution is to get even more Roth money in your 401(k). You would maximize your Roth money within your 401(k) if you contribute the maximum amount of Roth with regular contributions and then do the after-tax contributions that are converted to Roth.

    • @riod43
      @riod43 Před 4 měsíci

      @@AccessMariner ok. I was curious because if I wasn't able to afford to max out the 401k but want to still roll over more than the 7k max into my roth, that would still work right?

    • @AccessMariner
      @AccessMariner Před 4 měsíci

      @@riod43 If your goal is to contribute as much as possible to a Roth account, and you are over the income limit to contribute to a Roth IRA, consider doing as much into your Roth 401(k) as you can. If your income is under the limit to contribute directly to a Roth IRA, consider investing in your Roth 401(k) up to the match and then contribute directly to the Roth IRA, up to the contribution limit. If you still have money to contribute, you could then add more to your Roth 401(k).

    @pwbermudez Před 4 měsíci

    When do the income limits kick in, the year prior or the current year?

    • @AccessMariner
      @AccessMariner Před 4 měsíci

      The income limits kick in for the same tax filing year in which the Roth or Traditional IRA contribution is made. For example, if your income for 2023 was $50,000, that is the income you would use to determine your 2023 IRA contribution, even if you are making the 2023 IRA contribution in early 2024 (since you are able to make IRA contributions prior to the tax filing deadline).

    Why wouldn't you use a HYSA for years 2-7? It's more liquid, has a higher interest rate and is federally insured. Keep year 1 in a checking account and anything after 7 years in your brokerage account.

    • @SamKopp-mo5xf
      @SamKopp-mo5xf Před 4 měsíci

      Because a HYSA is going to have a variable yield. By using multiple bond length you can reduce interest rate risk and also plan to have portions of the principle to become available at pre determined dates.

    $70k / $2.5mil = 2.8% withdrawal rate. That is more conservative than the Morningstar recent recommendation of 3.3%. Ok if you have somebody to pass on the money, if not you would die rich.

  • @nicholas5396
    @nicholas5396 Před 6 měsíci

    Nothing is guaranteed. But if dividends get cut like in the financial crisis you wont be doing any better with a traditional % based withdrawal strategy. This st leastbget you 7 year before youd be forced to sell equities as your bond later is fixed. You may need to adjust your spending needs but better than sell stocks that are down 50% or more.

    If you are retired, about 50/50 allocation is a good start (Moderate allocation) and that includes T-Bills, Intermediate Bonds, and your money market fund. And a mix of AVGE, FDIF, and MAGS for your equity exposure and Worldwide coverage. You can pick between MAGS and FDIF if you want to avoid duplicate company coverage; however, both of these ETFs cover AI, go with FDIF which is a fund of funds ETF of "DISRUPTOR" companies in five sector ETFs in the stock market. You can also add the GLTR to add precious metals to your portfolio. I have four buckets with the fourth being a taxable account for my RMD withdrawals.

    There are SO many different views out there on this specific issue..I just turned 61, recently retired..with no debt of any kind.. I've come to the conclusion, that I will only draw from my fixed-income reserves, for the first twenty years of my withdrawl-phase..while letting the equity allocation "cook along", doing whatever it will do, during that time-frame. THEN..the first time that VTSAX hits an all-time-high..the first time after I turn 80..I will liquidate all VTSAX shares, and build a "bond ladder", with those proceeds", and take distributions from maturing constituents of that ladder..and I figure that in combination with my Social Security, assuming a maximum life-span of 100 (no one in my family has made it beyond age 96, YET) this strategy SHOULD keep me from from eating cat food, while living under a freeway-overpass, until I "meet my maker"...I HOPE!
